Moscow houses: from wood to stone

These lands belonged to the Miloslavskys until 1779. Under them, the character of the estate development developed: a front yard in front of the wooden main house, a large garden, and outbuildings. Then Colonel Peter Koshelev bought the property.

The next owner of the mansion was State Councilor P.I. Glebov. He went down in history as a friend of the Pushkin family and the godfather of Lev Pushkin, younger brother Alexander Sergeevich. Fate was favorable to Glebov, and the fire of 1812 bypassed his estate.

In 1860-1870, the estate belonged to the Kiryakov family, but they retained appearance ownership unchanged. Only after 1881, when Sergei Pastukhov bought the site, did reconstruction begin in Kolymazhny Lane. In 1913-1914, architect N.S. Schutzman added a neoclassical-style building to the main building. At the same time, a fence in the Art Nouveau style appeared on the side of Kolymazhny Lane.

After the revolution of 1917, children's institutions were located in the former Glebov-Ponomarev estate. Over time, the buildings fell into disrepair and stood abandoned. In the 1980s, the ensemble was transferred to the Pushkin Museum.

The buildings were reconstructed, and the wooden manor house was dismantled and in its place a stone one was built with the same dimensions and stylistic design of the facades. In January 2006, the Museion Center for Aesthetic Education of Children and Youth at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts was located in the former estate.

They say that......during excavations on the territory of the estate in 1989, the remains of buildings that burned during the great Moscow fire of 1737 were discovered. Then “Moscow burned down from a penny candle.” And the fire started from here - from a candle forgotten near the icon in the Miloslavskys’ house.
