The thickness of the threads will affect the size of the ball: the thicker the threads, the larger it will be and, conversely, the thinner the thread, the smaller your souvenir will be. When I saw the soccer ball backpack, this idea seemed very original to me. Backpack round shape and really resembles a soccer ball - not only in color, but also in shape. When I started work, I didn’t know that the job description for knitting a backpack would be extremely difficult to understand, so I’ll try to simplify it a little for you. I hope I can do it.

So let's get started.

How to crochet a soccer ball backpack

Result

First, let's talk about what should be the result - a round backpack with a diameter of 23 cm and a height of 24 cm.

Now about the materials

I used ALIZE DIVA silk effect 100% microfiber acrylic threads. I needed 140 g of yellow thread and 70 g of blue thread. You can make the backpack in any colors you like. I crocheted the ball No. 3.5. I also made the lace myself (at the end of the master class I’ll tell you how), if you don’t want to do this, just buy the lace of blue color 2m long. I decorated the finished backpack with a keychain in the shape of a boxing glove in the colors of the backpack. You can use any other sports-themed accessory; a football boot, sneaker or whistle is perfect.

So you will need:

  • 140 g yellow threads ALIZE DIVA silk effect 100% microfiber - acrylic
  • 70 g blue threads ALIZE DIVA silk effect 100% microfiber - acrylic
  • hook No. 3.5
  • cord 2.4 m
  • sports keychain

Progress

The work will consist of several stages:

1

Yellow hexagons

2

Blue pentagons

3

Yellow trapezoids

4

5

Ball tying

6

Making a tie

7

Making pens

Now let's talk about each of the stages in more detail.

1. Yellow hexagons

We will need 15 such parts.

How it's done:

Using yellow thread we knit a chain of 4 air loops, enclose it with one connecting column in a circle and knit further in spiral-shaped circular rows:

  • 1st round row: 12 single crochets;

  • 2nd circular row: in every second single crochet we knit 2 single crochets - you should get 18 loops;

  • 3rd circular row: in every third single crochet column, knit 2 single crochet columns - you should get 24 loops;

  • 4th circular row: in every fourth single crochet column, knit 3 single crochet columns - you should get 36 loops;

  • 5th circular row: in the fifth single crochet column and then in every sixth single crochet column, knit 2 single crochet columns, finish with one single crochet column - you should get 42 loops;

  • 6th circular row: in the sixth single crochet column and then in every seventh single crochet column, knit 2 single crochet columns, finish with one single crochet column - you should get 48 loops;

  • 7th round row: in the seventh single crochet column and then in every eighth single crochet column, knit 3 single crochet columns, finish with one single crochet column - you should get 60 loops.

2. Blue pentagons

We will need 11 such parts.

How it's done:

We knit a chain of 4 air loops with a blue thread, enclose it with one connecting column in a circle and knit further in spiral-shaped circular rows:

  • 1st round row: 10 single crochets;
  • 2nd circular row: in every second single crochet we knit 3 single crochets - you should get 20 loops;
  • 3rd circular row: in the third single crochet column and then in every fourth single crochet column, knit 3 single crochet columns, finish with one single crochet column - you should get 30 loops;
  • 4th round row: 30 single crochets;
  • 5th circular row: in the fourth single crochet column and then in every sixth single crochet column, knit 3 single crochet columns, finish with two single crochet columns - you should get 40 loops;
  • 6th circular row: in the fifth single crochet column and then in every eighth single crochet column, knit 3 single crochet columns, finish with three single crochet columns - you should get 50 loops.

Finish the circular row with one connecting column into a single crochet column and cut the thread.

3. Yellow trapezoids

We will need 5 of these parts.

How it's done:

Using yellow thread we knit a chain of 9 chain stitches and one lifting loop and tie this chain as follows:

  • 1st and 2nd row: 10 single crochets;

  • 3rd – 8th row: in each odd row, add one loop on both sides (in the first and last single crochet columns, knit two single crochets) – you should get 15 loops.

Cut the thread.

Now that the parts for the backpack are ready, let’s make a soccer ball out of them:

  • First we sew 5 yellow hexagons around the blue pentagon. This pentagon is the middle of the bottom of the backpack.
  • Then we sew one blue pentagon between the yellow hexagons.

  • After that, we sew yellow hexagons around each blue pentagon.

  • Now between the yellow hexagons we again sew the blue pentagons.
  • At the end, between the blue pentagons, we sew yellow trapezoids with the long side up.

Turn the ball inside out and hide all the strings.

To make the ball more contrast, I sewed its elements together with blue threads.

5. Wrapping the ball

Now we tie the upper edge of the resulting ball with yellow and blue thread in circular rows.

Attach a yellow thread to the cape of one of the blue pentagons and knit yellow trapezoids into each single crochet column and knit one single crochet into each cape of the blue pentagons - you should get 80 loops. Knit 6 such circular rows in yellow and 3 circular rows in blue - you should get 9 circular rows. Finish the last round row with one connecting column.

Now we make the edge with holes for the lace.

Knit three chain crochets into the first single crochet column, one double crochet into the next column, two chain crochets into the next, skip one single crochet, then work one single crochet into the next two single crochets. Next, knit according to the pattern “2 water loops - skip - double crochet - double crochet”, then again “2 water loops - skip - double crochet - double crochet” and so on until the end of the row. Finish the row with one connecting column in the third chain stitch at the beginning of the row.

Now make one additional lifting loop and knit another circular row of single crochets. Finish the row with one connecting column into the first single crochet. Cut the thread.

6. Making a tie

To do this, I used a rather unusual and perhaps even ancient method.

You will need:

  • an object with a small hole in the center - for me it was an old wooden spool of thread
  • 4 cloves
  • hammer
  • thin hook
  • threads (blue)

Using a hammer, drive the nails into the coil so that they form an equilateral square with a hole in the center.

Pass the thread through the hole from top to bottom and hold its end with your hand.

Now draw the thread around the perimeter of each stud.

Complete the circle with the first nail by simply throwing a thread over it.

Then the whole process will consist of using a hook to take out a loop from under the thrown thread and throw it to the center through a nail. Having thrown a loop through the first nail, you throw the thread on the second and do the same, then the third, fourth and again in a circle - and so on until the length of the resulting lace satisfies you. Doing this with the first circle will not be easy, subsequent circles will be much easier to complete.

The string will emerge from the hole at the bottom.

The method is not very easy to understand, but quite simple and unusual in execution. The lace made in this way turns out very beautiful and neat - just like a factory one!

When we have a lace of the length we need (60 cm), we remove the loop from each nail one by one and knit it. This way the lace is closed. We cut the thread and hide it inside the lace.

If the method is difficult for you, simply cut 60 cm from the lace you purchased.

Now we thread the lace through the holes of our backpack from right to left. We tie knots at the ends of the lace for beauty. The tie is ready.

7. Making handles

Make two more laces using the method described in step 6, each 90 cm long (or cut the rest of the lace you bought in half). Take one lace and sew it with blue thread to the bottom of the backpack strap. Then lift it up and sew it to the top of the backpack strap - this will give the backpack correct form. Do the same with the other end of the lace.

Now sew the middle of the lace to the bottom of the backpack. To properly distribute the weight of the contents of the backpack, you need to sew about 10 cm of lace - from the center of the blue pentagon to the center of another blue pentagon. Basically, your backpack is ready.

But in order to strengthen its handles, do the same again with the second cord - you will get 4 handles (2 on each side).

Ready! The backpack is quite roomy and is perfect for both training and walking. Children will especially like it.
