Thanks to modern technologies, interior designers are becoming real wizards. In the blink of an eye, they will make any room stylish and original. Recently, more and more attention has been paid to color design. The most popular are non-standard shades that can be obtained by mixing colors.

Process Basics

Manufacturers of paints and varnishes presented a fairly wide range on the market. But it’s not always possible to choose what suits the interior perfectly. Combining several shades will help save time and money.

In many specialized stores you can use the services of a specialist who will help you make the desired color. But if you know the basic rules of how to mix dyes, you can do it yourself at home.

When mixing, you need to remember one important rule: you cannot combine liquid products with a dry mixture. They have different indices, so the coloring composition may eventually curdle.

The most interesting part of the process is creating the desired shade. There are four primary colors:

  • white;
  • blue;
  • red;
  • green.

By mixing them you can get any others. Here are some illustrative examples:

  1. You get brown if you combine red and green. To make a lighter shade, you can add a little white.
  2. Orange is the result of mixing yellow and red.
  3. If you need green, you need to combine yellow and blue paints.
  4. To get purple, you need to mix blue and red.
  5. Red and white will result in pink.

This way you can mix endlessly.

Mixing acrylic-based materials

Designers love acrylic paints the most. They are very easy to work with, and the finished coating has excellent water-repellent properties.

  1. Their use has several nuances:
  2. The working surface must be perfectly flat and smooth. To do this, it needs to be sanded.
  3. It is important that the paint does not dry out.
  4. To obtain an opaque color, use undiluted paint. Conversely, you can add a little water for transparency.
  5. To be able to slowly select the desired color, it is recommended to use. Thanks to it, the product will not dry out so quickly.
  6. Mixing is best done with a clean instrument. In this case, the colors should be directed towards each other.
  7. To make a light tone, you need to add white dye to the solution, and to get a dark one, add black. It is worth remembering that the palette dark colors much wider than light ones.

Here are some examples of mixing acrylic-based paints:

  1. Apricot color is obtained by mixing red, yellow, brown and white.
  2. The recipe for making beige paint involves combining brown and white. If you want a bright beige, you can add a little yellow. For a light beige shade you will need more white.
  3. Gold is the result of mixing yellow and red colors.
  4. Ocher is yellow and brown. By the way, it is considered popular this season.
  5. Khaki can be made by mixing green dye with brown.
  6. To get purple you need three different colors: red, yellow and blue.

Mixing oil paints

Oil-based paints are more fluid, which necessitates more thorough mixing of the compositions if tones are mixed. The specificity and properties of oil colors provide the following advantages:

  • the tone will be the most uniform, so the paint is perfect for decorating any surface;
  • If desired, you can leave veins in the paint, which will allow you to create unusual effects on the canvas or wall.

Stirring the oil

Before work, it is important to evaluate whether it is possible to combine individual tones with each other, what will happen in the end. If you introduce a little glossy paint into matte paint, the result will be inexpressive. Adding matte paint to the shiny one helps make the latter a little more subdued.

You can use these methods:

  1. Mechanical. In one container, on a palette, different colors are combined by mechanically mixing them. The saturation of the finished mass is adjusted by adding brighter or lighter shades.
  2. Optic. This method is practiced only by professionals. Paints are combined to produce a new color when applied to a canvas or wall.
  3. Color overlay. By layering strokes, a new tone is created.

Features of mixing paints

The mechanical method is the simplest, so it is recommended for beginners. When using color overlay, the result may differ from what was intended, which must be taken into account in advance. You can use the glaze method - first apply a darker color, then lighten it with strokes light paint. It is better to practice combining oil paints in small portions, learn to create original effects, and then start creating paintings or interior decoration.

The working process

By mixing several different colors you can get a large number of a wide variety of shades. Which ones?

Shades of Gray

Quite often used in interior decoration. They help create shadow or unobtrusive color, as well as:

  1. You can create a regular gray by mixing black and white.
  2. To create cool shades, you need to add a little green to gray, and ocher for warm shades.
  3. Grey-green is gray with white and green.
  4. Gray-blue - gray, white and a little blue.
  5. Dark gray is the result of mixing gray and black.

Brown tones

To make the dye, you need to mix:

  • green with red;
  • red with blue and yellow;
  • red with white, black and yellow.

How to create other original tones:

  1. You can get mustard if you add red, green and black dyes to yellow paint.
  2. Tobacco shade is red, green, yellow and white.
  3. Golden brown is the result of a combination of yellow, red, green, white and blue. In this case, there should be more yellow pigment.

Red tones

  1. The basis for the pink shade is considered to be White color. Red is added to it. The brighter the desired shade, the more red you should add.
  2. To get a rich chestnut color, you need to mix red and black.
  3. Bright red-orange color - red and a little yellow. The more of the latter, the paler the result will be.
  4. You can give the dye a purple tint by mixing a few drops of bright blue and yellow colors and red pigment.
  5. To create raspberry, according to the recipe, you need to mix bright red + white + brown + blue. The more white, the pinker the hue.

Deep green color is formed by combining yellow and blue tones. The saturation of the finished dye depends on the amount of each of them. To create shades, you need to add other colors to green:

  1. For mint you will need white.
  2. To obtain an olive color you need green and a few drops of yellow.
  3. The shade of grass can be obtained by mixing green with blue. Yellow paint will help to even out the color.
  4. The color of the needles is the result of mixing green with black and yellow.
  5. Gradually mixing green with white and yellow, you can create an emerald tone.

Violet tones

Purple is made by mixing blue and red. You can also use blue and pink paints - the final color will be light, pastel. To darken the finished tone, artists use black paint, which is added in very small portions. Here are the nuances for creating shades of purple:

  • for light purple, you can dilute the finished color with white in the required ratio;
  • For purple, you need to add more red paint than blue.

Orange color

When creating classic orange, combine one part of yellow and red paint. But for many types of paint you have to use more yellow, otherwise the color will turn out too dark. Here are the main shades of orange and how to get them:

  • for light orange use pink and yellow, you can also add a little white paint;
  • for coral, dark orange, pink, and white are required in equal proportions;
  • for peach you need colors such as orange, yellow, pink, white;
  • for red, you need to take dark orange and a little brown.

Important rule

Many people ask the question: is it possible to mix paints and varnishes from different manufacturers? It is advisable that the dyes being mixed are manufactured by the same company. It's even better if they come from the same batch.

It is not recommended to mix dyes from different companies. They often have different properties, such as density, brightness, etc. Because of this, the finished coating may curl.

If you want to take a risk, you can combine a little bit of one and the other paint and apply the resulting solution to the surface. If it thickens or clumps, the experiment is a failure.

Computer help

  1. You can correctly mix several colors using special computer programs. They help you see the final result and determine in percentage terms how much of a particular tone needs to be added. Such programs will help you figure out what shade you can get from the products that are available. They consist of several elements:
  2. A button that removes tones from the set.
  3. Color names.
  4. Lines of input or output to or from a calculation.
  5. Samples.
  6. A button that introduces colors into a set.
  7. Result windows.
  8. New selection window and list.

Composition of the finished dye in percentage terms. Mixing several– a fairly common technique among designers. Unusual shades will help to decorate the interior favorably, make it original or even unique. You can even mix dyes at home. There are many recipes for creating one shade or another. For example, to get beige you need to combine white and brown, and to get pink you need to combine white and red.

It is recommended to always have a thinner on hand that will prevent the paint from drying out quickly. You should not mix products from different manufacturers, because the result will be a poor-quality coating.

To find out the final result of mixing, you can use a special computer program.

How to mix hair dyes according to the shade chart

Anyone who has ever used hair dye knows that it is sold in the form of several bottles. That is, you need to prepare the paint yourself by carefully reading the instructions and mixing all the ingredients in a certain order. In order for the paint preparation process to proceed correctly and be safe for health, the instructions say that we prepare special dishes in advance and wear protective gloves for our hands. And only after this can you begin preparing the coloring mixture.

Why don’t manufacturers produce ready-made hair dye? Let's try to figure out this problem.

The process of hair coloring occurs due to the chemical reaction of two components: the bleaching agent and the pigment itself. These components, when kept separately, are quite neutral and can be stored for a long period. But when they are mixed, a fairly violent reaction occurs, which promotes coloring. After mixing the components, they can be stored for no longer than half an hour and after this period it is better not to use the paint.

Before dyeing your hair, it is recommended to carefully read the instructions and find out whether the entire composition needs to be mixed in a ceramic bowl or only part of it. Usually, the dye is calculated for a hair length of at least 20 cm, so if you short hair, the paint can be divided into 2-3 doses. In the same way, if you have long and very Thick hair- you will have to immediately use two packages of paint with the same number.

Also, before using this or that hair dye for the first time, do not forget to test for an allergic reaction. It is done a day in advance with the active substance - apply a small amount to the inside of the elbow and see if any redness appears. If not, then everything is in order, the paint can be used. If the test gives a positive reaction, you should look for another, more gentle paint.

What to do if the desired shade is not in the selected series? Is it possible to mix shades to get a different color? The answer to this question will be unequivocal - under no circumstances! Mixing various colors can lead to unpredictable results in both shade and chemical reaction. Hair dye is not watercolor and can be safely mixed in any proportion. It is also not recommended to take a pigment of one brand and an oxidizing agent of another. Each manufacturer makes the paint components compatible with each other, but if you mix them, you can get a mixture that is hazardous to health. Do not use paint after its expiration date.

But how can you get the desired hair shade? Most often, the depth of color can be adjusted by the time the dye is left on the hair and also by the temperature - the higher the temperature at which the hair is dyed, the richer the shade will be. You should also not forget about the remnants of old paint on your head - most often it will also begin to take part in chemical process coloring - which can make the result quite original and, perhaps even successful.

There is another good method to experiment with an exclusive hair color: you can dye the strands in different colors. The most important thing is that all the shades on the head do not discord with each other. But you are unlikely to be able to do this on your own, so it is better to visit a beauty salon, where hairdressers will help you choose best colors and will give you an attractive hairstyle based on them.

How to choose the right hair dye

If you have a desire to lighten or dye your hair in any shade, you will never have problems with the assortment. The shelves of cosmetic stores are literally bursting with hair dyes of various colors and shades, and the names of companies dazzle your eyes. The product differs not only in names, but also in prices. And how can you not get confused?

It would seem nothing complicated: I went to the store, chose the right color. For example, we need copper-red. We are looking for a box on the shelf with a picture of a girl with suitable color hair, we buy. Then we come home and do everything that the instructions require of us and.... in the end we get a bright green tint or some other color, but absolutely not copper-red. Why did it happen so? After all, we have fulfilled all the conditions written in the instructions!

First of all, you should remember that when choosing a hair dye, you should take into account not only the color that manufacturers promise us, but also the hair color that you had before dyeing. Was it your natural color or the result of using a different hair dye? It is also important to know what your hair structure is. If thin and soft hair- they will lend themselves to painting faster, the depth of coloring will be higher and the desired result can be achieved much easier. And if your hair is curly, coarse and thick, then dyeing such hair will take much longer.

The same hair dye will give completely different results on seemingly similar hair with the same shade. Hair has a complex chemical structure and each person has its own composition. Therefore, by the way, it is not recommended even for close relatives to buy the same, even the most wonderful hair dye - the result after coloring can be completely different. The result will also be different on healthy and diseased hair, as well as on hair that has recently been permed.

When choosing a hair dye, the brand of the dye as well as its chemical composition is of great importance. Thus, many companies produce gentle series of paints with natural coloring components. Such series may give a less strong depth of hair coloring, but when dyeing the hair structure is not disturbed and the hairstyle will look more natural.

When choosing hair dye in a store, you should not settle for cheap options, no matter how much they are praised by commercials and brochures. Cheap dyes often use inexpensive aggressive lighteners, which can disrupt the structure of the hair, make it hard and split, and even lead to increased hair loss. After using such paints, under the influence of the active substance, the scalp may burn, or various allergic reactions. The result of coloring itself can also be unpredictable, which does not help improve our mood.

How to buy hair dye and, after using it, get exactly the result you expected? Most manufacturers of high-quality paints in the mid- and high-price categories include catalogs with samples with their paint series. Most often, this is an album or stand with multi-colored hair ponytails glued to them, under which is written the number of the dye with which this ponytail was painted. This method of selecting paint is more effective than using cardboard packaging. Still, cardboard and hair differ in their structure, and besides, printing ink is used on the packaging, not hair dye.

Also don't forget that if you have enough dark color hair, the result will be darker than announced by the manufacturer. The fact is that it is impossible to lighten hair by more than two tones in one go. Therefore, if you have a very dark hair- lighten them before tinting with a special lightener, and then you will have a chance to get the desired shade.

But even here there are pitfalls. After using lighteners, hair may become dull, brittle and begin to fall out. Therefore, if you want to lighten your dark hair several tones, it is better not to use household hair dyes, but visit a beauty salon. There specialists will select these for you cosmetical tools, which will cause minimal damage to your hair.

Dark colors are much easier to use. If your hair is dark, you can safely choose any shade; it can be achieved quite easily if you follow the instructions in detail.

Once you learn how to use a paint catalog, you will never be mistaken in choosing the required shade. This is a very convenient invention for fashionistas. You should also remember that there must be a sufficient amount of hair dye. Typically, one package is designed for a hair length of 20 cm. You should also take into account the thickness of your hair. Therefore, if you have long and thick hair, don’t skimp, buy two identical packages of dye, so you don’t have to worry about having too little product.

These simple tips should help you make the right choice of hair dye and, ultimately, always look your best.

How to remove hair dye from skin

It is difficult to meet at least one woman who has never dyed her hair. For many, this has become as common a procedure as going to the hairdresser. Often in our quest to be beautiful, our friends, who are not professionals in this matter, help us. In this case, a situation may arise when traces of paint remain on the forehead, neck, ears and hands. What to do to get rid of them?

First, it's better to avoid black paint marks than to deal with them later. Therefore, all areas of the skin that may get paint need to be lubricated. thick cream. If this does not help, proceed to removing traces.

We will need a cotton swab dipped in soapy water. Just wipe the areas where the paint got on with a swab. This will help if it has not yet had time to be deeply absorbed. Therefore, it is better to wipe off the paint as soon as it gets on the skin. Soapy water can be replaced with a scrub.

If the paint has managed to be deeply absorbed into the skin and the previous method does not help, you can use alcohol-containing solutions (face lotion, cologne) or alcohol.

A rather expensive method, especially compared to the previous ones, is a means for cleaning skin from hair dye. Among them are the following: Utopik Cleaner, Hair Light Remover, Dikson Remover, Igora Color Remover. All of them will easily help you get rid of paint marks.

More inexpensive, but still effective remedy- “Curl.” It is mainly used for perm hair. Simply wipe off paint stains with a cotton swab soaked in this product. There is one unpleasant moment - “Lokon” has a pungent odor.

To get rid of paint stains, you can use available products: acetone, nail polish remover and hydrogen peroxide. These funds should not be abused; use them no more than once or twice.

You can also use other means that every housewife has in her home. For example, vegetable oil and lemon (citric acid will also work). Skin-friendly products also include toothpaste. All these products will clean the paint without harm or irritation to your skin.

If you need to remove traces of paint as soon as possible, apply peeling to dark areas of the skin. After the product swells, gently rub the skin. This procedure will not only get rid of paint, but also restore the skin and give it an even, healthy color.

When dyeing their hair, most women are faced with the problem of how to properly mix hair dyes to get the desired color. In order to avoid frustration due to the wrong shade of curls, this article will reveal the secrets of mixing several hair dyes and the right combinations shades to achieve the desired result.

Secrets of mixing hair dyes correctly

Regardless of what color you want to purchase, it is worth remembering a few key points that you will need with any hair coloring:

  • Try to mix paints of the same brand, this way you will reduce the risk of getting a shade different from the desired one, and also cause less damage to the hair structure.
  • You can only mix paints that are similar in tone to get a smooth color transition. If you want to get strands of a contrasting color, the color mixing technique will not work for you.
  • You can mix no more than 2 colors at the same time, otherwise the interaction of 3 or more colors can give an unexpected range.
  • Professional paints are much better suited for mixing, since there are many shades in the palette, and it is also possible to choose the required percentage of oxidizing agent.
  • It is better to go to a specialist in a salon than to try to get the desired tone yourself; at home, the result may not meet your expectations.
  • If you decide to paint yourself, then strictly follow the instructions, use gloves and mix paints only in non-metallic containers, giving preference to ceramics or glass.

Technology for proper mixing of hair dyes

Knowing some of the basic secrets of preparing a new shade for coloring, you can proceed directly to the technology of how to properly mix hair dyes. To get the desired color, you will need to choose two colors that will ultimately give the desired shade. A hair coloring specialist, a salesperson in a professional hair product store, or proven recommendations for preparing dye by mixing two store-bought ones can help you choose. Once you decide on two shades that, when mixed, will give you the desired color, you can begin creating your unique hair dye.

First you need to prepare each of the paints separately. To do this, you will need 2 containers, in each of which you will need to dilute the paints in accordance with the instructions on the package. Then, immediately combine the colors in equal proportions (how to choose successful combinations and avoid mixing incompatible shades will be discussed below). Mix the paint mixture thoroughly until you obtain a mass of homogeneous color and immediately begin applying it to your hair, since when mixed, chemical reactions occur faster and after half an hour or an hour such mixed paint will become unsuitable for use after reacting with air. After you have completely dyed your hair, you need to wait a certain time, as with regular dyeing, then wash your hair and dry it to see what color you get.

Mixing hair dyes: provided the correct approach allows you to get original colors

Hair dye tones and mixing them

Now let's move on to the most important thing, which tones to choose and how to mix them to get the tone you dream of. We will talk specifically about professional paints, since it was already said above that they are most suitable for experiments such as mixing two scales. First, let's look at the tones. The main rule of mixing is to take similar shades of color (for example, light brown or red shades, and not mix the color of ash blonde with brown hair), but choose different tones (for example, in the range of light brown shades there are many shades from light brown to rich light brown with a caramel tint ). As a rule, all professional paints have a code of numbers, the first indicates the tone, 1 - black, 10 - blond, with which you need to decide on the choice of the main range for hair coloring. In any line of paints, there are the following basic color names:

  • 1 - black;
  • 2 - blue-black;
  • 3 - dark brown;
  • 4 - brown;
  • 5 - dark blond;
  • 6 - light brown;
  • 7 - light brown;
  • 8 - blond;
  • 9 - light blond;
  • 10 - platinum blonde.

The second number indicates the shade of color in a given range, and different manufacturers have completely different interpretations, for example, dark, frosty, golden chestnut, or among light shades such names as white gold, white sun, white sand are popular. Also, there are many chocolate and nut shades, from which you can choose which shades you will mix. For example, 7.1 - natural light brown can be mixed with 7.4 - copper, the result will be natural color brown hair with a copper tint.

To make selection easier, keep in mind that no matter what the paint is called, the essence of the second number usually includes the following auxiliary shades:

  • 0 - natural shade;
  • 1 - ashy shade;
  • 2 - golden hue;
  • 3 - copper shade;
  • 4 - red tint;
  • 5 - purple tint;
  • 6 - brown tint;
  • 7 - matte shade.

Remember that you cannot mix shades that do not match, so as not to get a so-called countercolor. Red cannot be mixed with green, blue with yellow, and violet with copper. And at the same time, these colors can drown out each other; if experiments with hair shades have led to unwanted green, copper and red tones of paints can help you.

Thus, by observing several simple rules, you can easily mix paints and experiment with color. But remember that dyeing by a professional will save your nerves and the health of your hair, because hair dyes are not watercolors, which means you should take the issue of dyeing by mixing paints very seriously.

The science of coloristics answers the question of how to properly mix hair dyes. It discusses all aspects and nuances of the mixing process, how, in what proportions and with what shades to combine colors. Armed with its laws and rules, it is easy to achieve the expected individual incredible effect.

Aspects of Paint Mixing

Preparation for the process of mixing dyes begins with choosing the desired shade, taking into account the combination of colors and coloring pigments found in the hair and in the chosen dye.

There are no restrictions on the color scheme - they use all of them. It all depends on the flight of fancy and attitude. There is only one rule: do not mix more than three different tones. To achieve a unique individual result and a well-saturated, rich shade, when mixing paint, use one line of one brand. Products from different brands are not the same in their chemical composition, active substances and coloring agents.

For beginners who do not know how to properly mix hair dyes, it is better not to undertake radical experiments on their own. It is more acceptable to start with small changes, for example, dyeing a small strand or tinting the color in half-tone increments. Unsuccessful experiments are sometimes difficult to correct: you have to completely re-dye your hair again, which leads to dryness, causing a lot of trouble in restoring its healthy state.

To achieve such characteristics of shades and colors of hair dyes as richness, airiness, richness, softness, the following techniques are used:

  • contrasting original strands, when individual locks of hair are dyed in a contrasting color;
  • smooth transition - bordering ones mix color scheme tones.

Paint mixing process

Before coloring, the type and structure of hair, thickness, degree of damage, the presence of gray hair are determined, the composition is checked for individual tolerance, the original and original color at the time of coloring is taken into account, as well as the presence of a perm.

When mixing hair dyes, learn the important rules that must be followed:

  • Read the instructions on the packaging.
  • For an error-free selection of shades, use the color table.
  • Mix a small test amount of paint, watch and evaluate the result.
  • Do not mix palettes from different brands.
  • Strictly observe the proportions of the ratio of coloring substances.
  • Gray hair is dyed in two steps (first, uniformity is achieved, then the main tone is applied).
  • The coloring result depends on the thickness, thickness and individual pigment of the hair.
  • Only glass, plastic, plastic and ceramic containers are used.
  • It is advisable to use diluted paint within 30 minutes.
  • Take care in advance and prepare the composition to wash off the unwanted color result.
  • Each paint is prepared separately, then the colors are carefully and carefully mixed together.

To achieve high color fastness characteristics, adhere to the following rules:

  • For hair of medium thickness and length, the volume of dye used is about 60 g.
  • Oxygen and paint are mixed in a ratio of 1:1, when tinting - 1:2.
  • When lightening hair, use a 9% oxygen solution, and when dyeing dark colors - 3%.

The depth and richness of the color are regulated by the exposure time of the dye on the hair being dyed and the temperature at which the process is carried out.

Achieving the desired shade

Mix colors, experiment, follow all the rules on how to properly mix hair dyes, and you will definitely get the expected result.

The technology of mixing closely related shades of one has a positive effect. color scheme, but in different tones, for example, light and medium brown. If there are residues on the roots from previous dyeing, achieve a uniform color before mixing. The correct color ratio will give the desired result (darker, lighter), taking you one step further towards the science of how to properly mix hair dyes.

The Golden Rule of the Color Wheel

Colorism conventionally divides colors into warm and cold, and also identifies three main (primary) colors: yellow, blue and red. never mix with each other. The remaining shades are derivative, or analog. They are obtained by mixing in different proportions and are most acceptable in various combinations and combinations. They have their own gradation:

  • Secondary - mixing two primary colors in equal parts, for example, yellow and red will give orange.
  • Tertiary - mixing one primary and one, for example, red and purple will give crimson.

Using the golden rule of the color wheel, it is easy to understand:

  • how to correctly combine it with eye and skin color, type of appearance;
  • how to avoid mistakes.

The colors of the circle are divided into warm and cold, and they are not compatible.

From shade to shade in a circle they go clockwise. The opposite colors are neutralizing (countercolor). They are used for correction or when removing an unwanted shade. All combinations give the effect of natural hair.

Advantages of professional paints

The color range of professional paints compares favorably with household paints on sale. Professional formulations have a larger collection of colors and shade nuances, which makes it possible to obtain an unlimited number of mixing options. Their packages contain a digital code indicating how to properly mix professional hair dyes. The number indicates the lightness level, where 1 is the darkest (black) tone, and 10 is the lightest (blonde). Accordingly, dark will muffle or average out the effect. The rest is decided by halftones - shades. First, indicate the main (depth of tone), then the auxiliary (color nuance), and, finally, the additional nuance of shade. This data will help you understand how to mix hair dyes according to the shade chart.

Mixton

When correcting tone and to enhance the shade of a color scheme, mixtones are used. They are not used independently for coloring, only after preliminary lightening of the hair.

Mixtons work well to enhance the natural palette. With their help, non-traditional, exclusive, unusual, matte and ashy variations are obtained.

Today we talked about such a procedure as mixing hair dyes. Important Rules were listed above.

We can say with almost 100 percent certainty that every representative of the fair sex has once tried to dye her hair a different color. Someone did it traditional methods like chamomile or honey, some with permanent paints. In the second case, it was possible to observe how the active components of paints are mixed for their chemical reaction.

Most often we buy ready-made mixtures, the preparation of which will give us a dye that will color our hair in the color shown on the title side of the box. But what to do if the specified shade does not suit you and you want something new? It's time to figure out how to mix hair dyes correctly. After all, you can get not only traditional tones, but also more extravagant ones: green, blue, purple, etc.

Often, mixing paints is not technically complicated, but in some way a tricky procedure that requires certain knowledge and experience. Most often, only experienced hairdressers and leading hairdressing specialists master it. The process of selecting and mixing several shades includes not only choosing several boxes of dye at your discretion.

The master assesses your strands: how damaged they are and how sensitive your skin is, whether you have gray hair and what color it is now - native or dyed. But if you decide to take on such an adventure at home, you should remember the following rules and recommendations:

  1. To achieve the desired color, you need to choose shades that are close in color palette, for example, medium blond and dark blond. For a more accurate selection, it is recommended to obtain a table of the paint palette of the company that you prefer.
  2. Paints that are produced by different manufacturers it is absolutely impossible to mix, since each of them has its own palette and the desired result is unlikely to be achieved;
  3. Carefully monitor the proportions in which you mix the ingredients. Their number must be calculated in advance;
  4. It often happens that the hair is dyed and the ends have one shade, but the roots are already grown and have a natural color, you should resort to color equalization: the strands need to be dyed in the tone that is closest to the natural one and only after that feel free to experiment with mixing.
  5. Notice if you have gray hair. If yes, then remember that they have a slightly different structure and can be painted differently.
  6. The degree of color saturation on the curls usually has a strong dependence on the degree of damage to the structure of the strands, as well as the temperature and duration of exposure to the coloring composition.
  7. If you have just begun to master mixing technologies, you should resort to more than two or three at a time;
  8. Use only glass, plastic or ceramic containers for diluting ingredients. It is prohibited to use metal containers or brushes with metal inserts.

Metal upon contact with the coloring composition may give other reactions.

It is also necessary to remember that no hair is the same or universal. Even if you paint two twins the same color, the result will still be slightly different, since each has individual characteristics. Before full coloring, it is recommended to test on a separate strand and see what the result will be.

If you get what you wanted, you can safely move on to full painting. If not, then you need to review the table of paint palettes and check the mixing ratio.

You also need to master the paint mixing table. The first number tells you what color the paint is. That is, if you see 1, this means that the tone is black, and if 10, it is the lightest in the palette. In general, the table displays the entire range of shades that can be found in nature.

An example of mixing tones: if we use tone 1 (black) and add tone 3 (natural dark brown) in absolutely equal proportions, we will end up with tone 2, which is called a very dark brown, almost black.

Using the table, you can easily navigate and select the desired color tone.

Effect of pigments

Shades, just like tones, are displayed in numbers. If in the paint code the first digit is the tone, then after the dot the shade number is written. Moreover, it consists of two numbers, where the first speaks about the main one, and the second about the auxiliary one.

For example: paint 7.13. Let's decipher:

The first number 7 is a natural light brown tone;
Next point
1st number – main pigment – 1: purple ash pigment;
2nd number – auxiliary pigment – 3: red pigment.

The auburn pigments neutralize the ash pigments slightly by adding heat. Those. as a result, if used correctly, we should get light brown color with a warm ashen tint.

But if, for example, you mix 7.13 with 7.3, then red will be the main one, and ash will be auxiliary. As a result, we will have the same hair color, but with a red tint, which is slightly diluted with ash pigment.

The following list of shades is mainly used:

  • 0 – natural base tone, has a slightly greenish tint;
  • 1 – ashy shade, which is obtained due to purple pigment;
  • 2 – green pigment, which performs the function of smoothing between tones;
  • 3 – red with yellow;
  • 4 – red, copper;
  • 5 – reddish-violet pigment, which is also called “swallowtail”;
  • 6 – purple with blue;
  • 7 – red with brown.

That is, if you mix shade number 1.5 or 6 with number 4, the result should be a warm shade. Number 2 usually drowns out 4, number 1 can enhance 6 and at the same time eliminate yellowness.

Anti-color color wheel rules

The color wheel is a visual aid for combining shades. According to its gradation, there are only three main pigments - red, yellow and blue. They are fundamental to the formation of new opportunities. Also, by its gradations you can easily determine which shades do not suit each other.

Having mastered the table of tones and shades, you can easily understand how to mix hair dyes to achieve one or another result. However, it is necessary to understand what anti-colors are and what they mean. After all, if you mix shades and tones uncontrollably, the result can be very disappointing. Not to mention the fact that you will have to repaint your hair, and this, in turn, will cause additional harm to your hair.

But on the other hand, anti-colors can also be used for good: for example, to neutralize a shade that you didn’t like.

Therefore, in order not to see some strange color on the strands after dyeing, you need to remember which shades and tones are counter-colors.

2 main “covenants” of incompatibility:

  • Red Green;
  • purple and blue versus yellow and orange.

That is, if as a result you still get some unexpected result, for example, green, you can resort to shades 4 and 5 (see table), it can be eliminated.

If you mix shade 2 and 3 the result will be a green shade. They need to be treated with care. If you mix 4 and 2 you will get bright orange, and if you add a 3rd to the 6th, you will end up seeing blue or light blue strands.

Step-by-step instructions for preparing coloring mixtures

If you have already decided which numbers you will mix, you need to purchase them in a store or in hairdressing salons. They must be professional and from the same manufacturer.

  • Step 1: read the instructions. First, mix the coloring compounds separately.
  • 2nd step: now the paints can be mixed with each other in a certain proportion;
  • Step 3: Stir and distribute the mixture onto your hair. This process cannot be delayed for long, because the shelf life of diluted paint is quite short;
  • 4th step: keep the dye on your hair for as long as prescribed in the instructions, after which you wash your hair.

If you understand the color palettes of dyes, understand which ones are best to mix and which ones are best kept at a distance, you can get your own individual hair color that will look most beneficial with your image. It is also worth remembering the basic rules for changing hair color. For example, you are unlikely to be able to change your color from brunette to blonde in one go.
