The fashion marathon continues in London, where from September 14 to 18 a week will pass fashion. Foggy Albion is a well-known forge of young talented designers, but recently the stakes of the local Week have been rising due to large participating brands, as well as significant guests, for example, Queen Elizabeth II at the show of newcomer Richard Quinn last season. Who we will see among the guests this time and what to expect from London Fashion Week - in our material.
Of course, the biggest intrigue of the season is the debut of Riccardo Tisci as creative director of Burberry. We will see Riccardo's first collection in his new position on September 17. In July, Tisci announced a collaboration between the British house and Vivienne Westwood, and although the collection will go on sale only in December, this unexpected move on the part of the Italian makes us understand that with his arrival, Burberry is definitely in for radical changes (see the updated brand logo).
Alexa Chung will also make her debut London Fashion Week - the journalist, blogger and fashionista will show her own brand's collection on the catwalk for the first time on September 15. Chang launched her clothing line of the same name in May last year, managed to present it in Moscow and will now conquer London Fashion Week. Alexa's brand became another proof that brands founded by stars are no less interesting to the public than the works of graduates of Central Saint Martins and major fashion houses. Victoria Beckham decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her brand by returning to her native land. Despite the fact that the actual office is based in London, Victoria Beckham shows have always taken place at New York Fashion Week. Shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood, who had previously limited himself to small presentations in Paris, also decided to stage a full Nicholas Kirkwood show as part of the main London Week schedule. “I live and work in London and find inspiration here, so it was a logical step. I’m not going to do a show in a traditional format, everything will be much more complex and interesting,” Kirkwood shared.

If only for this reason, studying trends from British catwalks is especially interesting: it is there that the real fashion avant-garde is cleverly intertwined with simple, previously tested and commercially successful ideas. The 10 main trends of autumn and winter 2018 turned out exactly like this!
We have already seen several versions of a black leather raincoat before - at Fashion Week in New York, where this outerwear began its triumphant march. In London, designers exaggerate the ideas of their “Western colleagues”, adding even wider shoulders or finishing it with multiple zippers: rebellious London, as you remember, is also the birthplace of the gloomy grunge of the 90s.
Colored total look
Despite the apparent simplicity of this idea, creating a fresh look in one color or a gradation of related shades is not so simple. On the one hand, this can make the designer’s work more interesting: when the viewer is no longer distracted by contrasting color combinations, bright prints or abundant decor, the design features of the clothing - cut, silhouette, texture - come to the fore. On the other hand, the fashion designer is being pursued high probability a mistake: one miscalculation in the design - and a colored total look will highlight it in the best possible way.
To repeat a bright total look in life, we advise you to try on all the items of the look together when purchasing. If you go wrong with just one shade (even if it's a bag or shoes), there's a big risk that your outfit will go from trendy to downright sloppy.
We have already seen black raincoats and colored monochrome looks more than once. The real discovery of London Fashion Week is clothes literally decorated with a rainbow. Christopher Bailey did this most clearly in his latest collection for Burberry, dedicating it to LGBT youth (and although the brand works on a see now buy now system, its share in the entire London Fashion Week is so huge that we simply cannot ignore it) . The most “tasteless” era in the fashion chronicle has been exciting the hearts and minds of designers for the fourth season in a row, and it seems that it has no intention of losing ground. In New York, there was a real craze for leopard print, which survived the journey across the entire color palette; in London it is added with a zebra print and, of course, other signs of the era - crazy eclecticism, triumph sporty style and costumes " business woman».
The classic and most romantic print will appear in a refined form next season, practically devoid of any extreme connotations. The image from the Richard Quinn show, which became famous after Queen Elizabeth II herself visited it, does not count.
Stylized merchandise
Stylized merchandise is exactly what we had in mind when talking about the innovative and progressive spirit of the British capital. Perhaps it is he who should be awarded the title of the most interesting trend, which simply didn’t happen at any other Fashion Week. Nicola Formichetti's brand Nicopanda has a reworked logo of the Nirvana group, well known to all fans of Kurt Cobain and just the generation of the 90s. The Ashish brand has a whole set of modified logos of famous payment systems: in the photo - American Express, which has turned into American Excess (which in the context of the current political situation looks very sharp). Silver metallic in the next season is a tribute to the legacy of the 60s with their desire to conquer the Universe. For inspiration - the fashion archives of Paco Rabanne, Andre Courrèges and Pierre Cardin, as well as, of course, the film “Barbarella” with the seductive Jane Fonda in the title role.
Triumph of the tartan
Last fall we hunted for jackets and entire suits decorated in gray Prince of Wales plaid. In the future, we will switch our attention to the classic red and black tartan, the symbol of Scotland, and it will not be limited to costumes alone.
