It is possible to make makeup expressive, add depth and correct the shape of the eyes with the help of the right makeup. And most importantly, you don’t have to visit a makeup artist to do this: you can find out how to beautifully apply eye makeup at home below.

How to beautifully apply eye shadow and choose the right cosmetics

In order to understand the basics of proper make-up, you need to acquire high-quality cosmetics, the following rules will help you choose:

  1. Shadows should have a uniform velvety structure, be long-lasting and have a rich color. Swipe cream or dry shadows along the back of your hand - the line should be uniform, smooth and not crumble;
  2. When choosing eyeliner, choose a durable refill with a soft brush. The eyeliner should leave a clear line regardless of the width and dry quickly. For greater durability, you can choose a waterproof formula;
  3. Choose mascara based on your needs: a curved brush curls eyelashes; liquid teeth separate and lengthen, and a thick brush creates the effect of false eyelashes;
  4. When choosing a pencil, inspect its lead: there should be no residue on it, it is desirable that it is soft and does not leave lumps or crystals when drawing a line on the skin. The color should match your type: for blondes, light shades of green, turquoise, blue or golden color; brunettes should choose dark, olive, purple and dark blue colors, and red-haired girls should choose brown, brick, red and green. Every cosmetic bag should have a beige or white (depending on skin tone) soft pencil with a creamy texture to highlight the lower mucous membrane of the eye;
  5. The quality of the brushes affects how the shadows fall and how thoroughly they are shaded. When working with loose shadows, use brushes made of natural hair. With a brush (5) shadows are applied, with a brush (2) they are shaded in the corners, and with a thin and short brush (3) arrows are drawn and the lower eyelid is lined. To apply cream eyeshadow, use sponges or fingertips.

This small cosmetic arsenal will help you learn how to make up your eyes beautifully.

How to choose eyeshadow color

The color of the shadows should be selected based on the shade of the skin, hair and eye color:

Green eyes
If you have light green eyes, pay attention to subtle shadows in neutral colors - this will help “open” your eyes and highlight their natural beauty. Owners of a dark green or jade shade can experiment with shadows - burgundy, pinkish, olive and lilac will shade the color of the eyes and give them magnetism.

Brown eyes
The most universal eye color that allows any experiments and unusual combinations. The only rule is to avoid too light and pale shadows; in contrast with bright brown eyes, they will look gray and dull, making a “sad” face.
Your classic palettes are black, dark brown, bright green, olive, purple and blue. A copper-brown palette will look especially elegant and soft on you.

Grey eyes
Another universal color. All shades will go with it, except pink (they will make your eyes painfully red). Focus on intense dark colored eyeliners, smokey eyes and feel free to experiment with graphic make-up. Give preference to cool colors that will make your look piercing and attractive.

Blue eyes
Calm and light colors look great in tandem with blue eyes: gray, blue, lavender and brown. Contrasting colors can play a cruel joke on you, making your look faded and dull. You should also beware of dark blue and burgundy colors - they create the illusion of a bruise.

Color type

Brunettes
  • Cool - almost all bright colors are suitable. Feel free to experiment with combinations and palettes, but you should refrain from pale pink and mother-of-pearl.
  • Warm – Check out golden brown and honey palettes for a soft, sophisticated feel.
Blondes
  • Cold - light pastel colors: blue, lavender, beige. Don't overdo it with mother-of-pearl to avoid looking too cold. Don't use black, blue or grey.
  • Warm – bright, clean and shimmery shadows are your option. Replace black smokey eye with smoky blue.
Red and warm brown-haired women - muted shades of gold, brown and red are ideal. Taboos – acidic contrasting eyeliners and cool palettes.

Optical tricks for correcting eye shape

Round, bulging eyes
In this case, it is better to avoid light pearlescent shadows, as they will visually enlarge already large eyes. You should use dark shadows, apply them from the lash line to the crease of the eyelid. You can also outline the eye dark pencil, giving it an almond shape.

Wide-set eyes
The widest part of the eyeshadow line should be at the inner corner of the eye. The color transition should be from darker to lighter. According to this principle, you can combine various colors and shades, the main condition is that the shadows must be matte.

Close-set eyes
The main task is to visually increase the distance between the eyes. This can be achieved with the help of light shadows, which must be applied to the inner corners of the eyes, beige to the middle of the eyelid, and the darkest shade in the palette to the outer corners.

Drooping outer corners of the eyes
In order to raise them, you need to draw a triangle with dark shadows on the outer corner of the eye, elongated at the extreme angle to the temples. To enhance the effect, you can glue individual bunches of false eyelashes to the outer corners of your eyes.

Small, deep-set eyes
Draw a light pencil line along the inside of the lower eyelid - this will open the eye. For eyelid makeup, you need to use light shadows, apply them to the moving part of the eyelid and blend well under the eyebrow. Eyelashes must be painted with mascara, having previously curled them with curlers.

Invisible eyelid crease
Apply dark matte shadows to the movable part of the eyelid, and lighter ones closer to the eyebrows. Finally, apply light shadows to the inner corners of the eyes.

  • Applying dots - mark the main points of the arrow on the eyelid with a pencil, and follow them with liquid eyeliner.
  • Using a layout - there are special patterns that help you draw arrows evenly.

Instructions

Instructions:
Eye makeup begins with applying a special eyelid cream. The cream is distributed over the upper and lower eyelids. You should pay more attention to the outer corner of the eye - this is where facial expressions appear.

Then you need to degrease the upper eyelid with simple powder. Carrying out this procedure will allow you to preserve your makeup for a long time. Degreasing should be performed on oily skin types. Now you can start applying makeup to your eyes.

Brows. Natural eyebrows are in fashion today. You should take care of the straight line of the eyebrows and below. If you want to emphasize a little natural beauty, use an eyebrow pencil or shadow that matches the shade. Strokes are drawn with a pencil - creating the effect of adding new hairs to the eyebrows.

Eyeliner. There are two types of eyeliner: liquid and pencil. Liquid eyeliner is clear and long-lasting, but very noticeable. You can shade the pencil, which will give your makeup a natural look and add volume to your eyelashes. It is necessary to line your eyes in one movement, from the inner to the outer corner. The pencil should always be sharpened, and in liquid eyeliner the brush should be clear of lumps. You should draw very close to the lash line.

The classic distribution of shades is as follows:
Brown eye color - green, gold, brown and beige shades of eye shadow,
Grey colour eye - blue shade of shadows,
Blue eye color - gray and purple shades of shadows,
Green color eyes – gray and brown shades of shadows.
Combining shades is allowed; in this case, light colors are applied to the inner corners of the eyes, and dark ones to the outer corners.

Preparing your face for makeup

First of all, you need to prepare your face for applying makeup.

Wash your face thoroughly with warm water and soft foam or other skin cleanser.

You can use mattifying toner, it will dry oily skin face and cosmetics will lie evenly.

Dry your face with a soft terry towel.

Apply a moisturizer that is appropriate for your age to prevent makeup from drying out your delicate facial skin. Manufacturers usually indicate on the packaging age recommendations for the use of a particular product. Today on sale you can find BB makeup foundations that already contain moisturizing components. There is no need to apply additional cream with them.

After the cream is absorbed, you can start applying makeup.

How to choose the right shadows?

You should choose shadows based on their type and color.

Choosing the type of shadows

First you need to decide what shadows you are going to use: dry, cream, liquid or pencil shadows?

Unlike others, dry shadows provide more subtle, translucent colors and are better suited for nude makeup.

Liquid shadows are sold in convenient packaging with an applicator for application and lay down in a dense, even layer.

Cream shadows do not require prior application of a makeup base, but tend to settle into the creases of the eyelids.

Pencil shadows, due to their shape, can be applied without the use of additional tools.

Choosing the color of the shadows

Eyeshadow color can either make or break your appearance. In order to purchase only suitable cosmetics in the store, you need to understand the intricacies of choosing shades.

Shiny or matte?

The first thing you should pay attention to is the shine of the shadows.

Matte shadows visually smooth out wrinkles and require the application of a high-quality makeup base.

Pearlescent shadows emphasize wrinkles, visually making them deeper, so they are mainly suitable for younger girls.

Glitter eyeshadows can contain glitter of different sizes. Large sparkles are more appropriate for evening makeup, and small powder particles can decorate everyday makeup.

Eyeshadow color and your color type

It is customary to divide appearance into 4 color types based on 3 main characteristics. The table for determining your color type is presented below:

When you decide on your color type, use the chart to calculate the shades that suit you:

Eye shadow color to match your eye color

The color of the shadows can be matched to your eye color. There are two main directions for choosing shadows: complementary colors or contrasting ones. Complementary colors enhance the natural shade of the eyes, while contrasting colors can distract attention from it and act as an independent accent.

Shadow application technique

Today, makeup does not obey virtually any rules. The technique of applying shadows is limited only by the tools available and the result you want to achieve.

The main tools for eye makeup are considered to be:

    Oblique brush

    Blending brush

    Applicator

An oblique brush is needed to create straight lines, for example, in graphic makeup or for drawing arrows. The blending brush allows you to achieve smooth color transitions. An applicator is needed to apply shadows in a dense layer.

To ensure that your makeup lasts as long as possible, you must first apply a special eye shadow base. Its color should match your skin tone.

Basic eyeshadow techniques

It is not necessary to do makeup with bright contrasting shadows; sometimes classic schemes look much more interesting in pastel or neutral shades.

Universal technique for applying shadows

The universal technique of applying shadows involves the use of three different colors: light, neutral and dark or bright. Light-colored shadows are applied to the entire upper eyelid, emphasizing the eyebrows - this technique visually widens the eyes and makes the look fresh. Then neutral shadows are applied to the moving eyelid. It is better to choose matte colors for this - they will look appropriate in any makeup. Apply bright or dark shadows to the outer corner of the eye, shading them towards the tip of the eyebrow and the center of the eyelid.

Applying this diagram It is important to pay attention to shading: all transitions should be as smooth as possible.

Vertical technique of applying shadows

With the vertical technique of applying shadows, the eyelid needs to be mentally divided into 5 zones with vertical lines, as shown in the figure. When using this technique, you must start with 1 zone located at the inner corner of the eye. This is where we apply the lightest shade of the eyeshadow. And then, moving to the outer corner of the eye, we fill each zone with increasingly darker colors.

Horizontal shadow technique

With the horizontal technique of applying shadows, the eyelid is mentally divided into 5 zones with horizontal lines. Wherein:

The first zone is located at the level of the inner corner of the eye

The second zone is located at the level of eyelash growth

The third zone covers the entire moving eyelid

The fourth zone is located in the crease of the eyelid

The fifth zone occupies the entire upper eyelid

Apply light, shiny shadows to the inner corner of the eye. Then we paint the lash line with a dark matte color. Apply matte shadows of a neutral shade to the moving eyelid. Apply a thick dark or bright color into the crease of the eyelid. We fill the upper eyelid again with neutral or light shadows.

Technique for creating almond-shaped eyes

Almond-shaped eyes are considered the most complimentary. You can achieve this effect even if the outer corner of your eye is downward.

To create this makeup, use our step-by-step instructions:

Apply a light, glittery shadow to the inner corner of your eye.

Apply dark shadow to your lash line. Then don't a large number of Apply dark shadows to the outer corner of the eye and blend towards the tip of the eyebrow and along the crease of the eyelid.

Apply light matte shadow to the upper eyelid up to the brow line.

Rules for applying eye shadow for different eye shapes

With help correct technique By applying shadows you can correct the natural shape of the eye.

Close-set eyes can be visually distanced from each other with the help of the right color accents. To do this, apply light ones (you can even have pearlescent or shiny ones) from the inner corner of the eye, and dark ones from the outer corner.

The opposite method will help to bring wide-set eyes closer together: apply light shadows to the outer corner of the eye, and dark ones to the inner corner.

To lift the outer corner of the eye and achieve almond-shaped, apply dark shadow from the outer corner to the tip of the eyebrow. Blend the line towards the center of the eyelid.

To enlarge your eyes, use light shades of eyeshadow and apply glitter to your eyelid.

Black shadows are charm and elegance. Not every girl dares to do makeup with black shadows, because they imply a bright and shocking image. It is important to use them correctly, which requires training and knowledge of makeup techniques, otherwise black shadows look vulgar and sloppy.

How to apply black eye shadow to get a bright, elegant look? First of all, black eyeshadow doesn't suit everyone. If your appearance is delicate, light and you are not used to wearing black or bright things, black shadows will not work. Also, black shadows must be chosen of high quality, preferably professional ones - they will not roll off, crumble, blend perfectly and lie on the eyelids beautifully and neatly.

Black shadows should be chosen for evening makeup. During the day, they prefer colored shadows, because in the evening color is no longer perceived and monochrome shadows are suitable to highlight and beautifully emphasize the shape of the eyes. Therefore, it is better to wear black eyeshadow in the evening or for a special event.

In makeup with black shadows, the emphasis is on the eyes, so choose soft lipstick and neutral shades.

Before you do this kind of makeup, you definitely need to tidy up your skin. All small wrinkles, spots and irregularities must be hidden under foundation and powder. Black shadows look great only in combination with perfect tone skin.

The eyelids and skin under the eyes should be well powdered., if the shadows fall off, you can easily brush them off with a brush. If the skin is “bare” the shadows will simply smudge without special means There is no need to remove makeup here.

How to apply black eyeshadow to your eyes: step-by-step photo tutorial

You will need:

  • makeup brushes,
  • black shadows, brown shadows, light shadows (ivory),
  • black pencil

Step 1-2 Apply black shadow to the entire movable area with a brush, moving slightly upward towards the tip of the eyebrow. Make sure that the shadows do not fall off. It is better to apply them with patting movements. Then put brown shadows on the brush and blend them - applying it to the border of the black shadows. Also blend the edge of the brown eyeshadow with a clean brush, apply ivory eyeshadow under the eyebrow. All borders of colors should be well shaded and smoothly transition into each other.

Step 3-4 Using a small flat brush, bring the bottom edge to the middle of the pupil, and also blend with a soft brush.

Step 5-6 Now all that remains is to draw the waterline (the wet line above the lower eyelashes) with a black pencil. We also draw the upper eyelid along the contour of the eyelashes with a black pencil and fill it in between the eyelashes. If your eyelashes are not so long, you can use false eyelashes. Apply black mascara well to the upper and lower eyelashes. And the makeup with black shadows is ready! A languid, attractive look beckons you into the pool...

Another option on how to paint your eyes with black shadows:

What you will need for makeup:

  • Nude eyeshadow
  • Black matte eyeshadow
  • Black pencil
  • Light glitter eyeshadow with shimmer
  • Black mascara and optional false eyelashes
  • Makeup brushes

Step 1 Cover your eyelids with primer, don’t forget about under-eye corrector. Apply light beige eyeshadow all over your eyelid and under your brow bone.

Step 2 Using a soft black pencil, draw the upper eyelid, starting from the inner corner of the eye, in a small arrow

Step 3 Take black shadows onto the brush, shake off the excess (so the shadows will not crumble under the eyes) and apply to the upper eyelid, as shown in the photo: thin line at the inner corner and gradually expanding to the outer, extending beyond the contour of the eye and making a thick arrow.

Step 4 We line the lower eyelid with a black pencil, starting from the middle, connecting with the shadows on the upper eyelid. Gently blend the pencil so that there is no clear border.

Step 5 Using a soft brush, slightly blend the black shadow on the upper eyelid, moving the corner of the arrow to the side and up.

Step 6 Take light shadows with shimmer (with sparkles or pearlescent) onto the brush and apply them to the inner corner of the eye (top and bottom), on the lower eyelid to the middle, under the eyebrow. Notice how the eyes immediately sparkled!

Step 7 Draw a line above the lower eyelashes to the middle of the pupil.

Step 8 Paint your eyelashes thickly with black mascara or glue on false eyelashes. Makeup is ready!

Third makeup option with black shadows:

What you will need for makeup:

  • Black pencil, black shadows
  • Beige or peach eyeshadow
  • Black eyeliner

Step 1 - Apply primer and cover your eyelids with nude eyeshadow. Using neat strokes, draw a curved line with a black pencil, as in the first photo.

Step 2 - Also draw a line under the lower eyelashes with a black pencil, reaching the middle of the eyelid.

Step 3 - Cover the area behind the arc-shaped black line that we drew on the upper eyelid with black shadows, repeating the shape of this line. We carefully shade the border. You can use brown shadows. The darkest place will be in the corner and gradually fade towards the bridge of the nose. Place some shadow on the lower eyelid and blend it gently.

Step 3 - Apply light peach eye shadow to the inner corner of the eye up to the black line.

Step 4 - All that remains is to line the upper eyelid with liquid black eyeliner and apply black mascara to the eyelashes. Makeup is ready!

Do you do your makeup with black shadows? We are waiting for your comments!

You should start after your skin tone is evened out and your eyebrows are drawn. Moreover, eye shadow is applied first, and only then eyelashes are painted, and not vice versa. How to apply eye shadow correctly? An important aspect is the choice of shadows.

Types of shadows

  • Dry shadows. This is a classic type of shadow, familiar to many. They have a long shelf life due to the lack of moisture in the composition.
  • Liquid shadows. Their main component is vegetable wax, which gives makeup increased durability. Due to instant drying, they must be applied quickly.
  • Shadow pencil. Use them to achieve a beautiful glossy glow on your eyelids. True, they are difficult to shade, and they quickly roll off.

  • Shadow mousse. This is a kind of cosmetic know-how. They are easy to apply, but their quantity should be precisely measured, since excess is difficult to remove.

To make the shadows on the eyelids look brighter and more saturated and at the same time stay firmly in place, without crumbling or creasing, you need to apply a base to the eyelid. If you don’t have such a product, then a light moisturizer can replace it: apply a little to the upper eyelid, blot off the excess paper napkin. Then start applying shadows. Apply lighter shadows to the inner corners of your eyes, and darker ones to the outer corners.

What not to do

  • Apply matte shadows with a damp sponge, otherwise the entire effect of the tone will be ruined. This technique is only relevant for shadows with mother-of-pearl.

How to choose a color

When choosing the color of the shadows, consider the lighting: it can change the shade. It is optimal if you select shadows under a fluorescent lamp aimed at your face.

If you decide to paint your eyes using the smokey eye technique, then know: this is not necessarily a combination of black and gray. A combination of khaki and dark brown colors looks good on green and brown eyes. Dangerous colors for this technique are lilac and blue; they can look like bruises on the face. Otherwise, don’t be afraid of color and experiment.

Smokey eye makeup

This makeup can be used for both evening and daytime. The quality of the smokey eye depends on the beautiful and correct shading of the shadows.

  • The slapping technique works well for this makeup. Place a large amount of shadow on the brush, then shake it, removing all excess, and apply the shadow first to the moving eyelid.

  • If you apply the shadows carefully, it will not be difficult for you to quickly and competently shade them. Take a round and elastic brush and, with light pressure, blend the shadow on the fixed eyelid from the outer to the inner corner of the eyes.

Remember: the success of your makeup largely depends on whether you applied your eye makeup correctly.
