Winter is just around the corner, so we suggest you knit very cute and warm children's mittens in the shape of fluffy animals. With such mittens, kids will have fun and warmth, no matter how chilly and damp it is in the fresh air. Knitting mouse (hedgehog) mittens is not at all difficult; for the work you will need knitting needles, wool yarn and grass yarn.

Knitted mouse mittens for children aged 5-6 years

A simple, convenient and neat way to knit the “fur” of a mouse (or the “needles” of a hedgehog), i.e. the upper part of the mitten, knitted with “grass”.

In order to knit mittens in the shape of mice (hedgehogs) with knitting needles we will need:

  • 50 grams of pink yarn (Viking Baby Ull, 100% wool, 50 grams = 175 m., color 366(2)).
    You need to knit in two threads!;
  • approx 30 gr. “Grass” is pink;
  • stocking needles No. 3 (5 pcs.).

Description of work:

In this master class we simplified the drawing a little by making the upper and lower halves of the mitten the same.
In addition, it is more correct to place your thumb at the very edge of the lower half of the mitten.
In the process of knitting mittens, it is very convenient to have such a life-size drawing in front of your eyes and compare with it what you get on your knitting needles.

Now let's move on to knitting our mice.

1. Cast on 32 loops with the main thread and knit 20 rows (5.5 cm) with a 1×1 elastic band;

2. In the 21st row, switch to stockinette knitting, add 4 more stitches [=36 stitches, 9 loops per needle] and knit in stockinette stitch in the round for 16 rows;

3. In the 17th row to form a hole thumb knit 6 loops with a contrasting thread, then transfer them again to the left knitting needle and knit again with the main thread;

4. Knit 25 rows in stockinette stitch. Then, to form the “corner” of the mitten, on knitting needles 1 and 3, knit the 1st and 2nd loops together, and on knitting needles 2 and 4, swap the last and penultimate loops and knit together. When 4 loops remain, break the thread and pull it through all the loops using a hook, then hide the thread inside;

5. To knit the thumb: remove the auxiliary thread, put the resulting loops (6 at the bottom and 7 at the top) on the knitting needles, add 1 loop on the right and left and knit 17 rows in a circle with the main thread. Then close in the same way as in step 4;

6. Knit the “fur” of the mouse as follows: using the “Grass” thread, cast on 20 loops from the loops of the first row of the upper half of the mitten using a hook, transfer the loops to the knitting needles and knit a rectangle 11-12 cm long using stockinette stitch. Next, without covering the loops, sew them to upper half mittens with a horizontal knitted seam. Sew the “fur” to the sides of the mitten;

7. For ears: 2 ch. connect into a ring and knit 12 sts. Sew the ears to the mitten. Make the nose and eyes from beads.

The most important thing is to take all the necessary measurements from your hand and make the correct calculation. How to do this is described very well in the article below.

Knitting and crocheting mittens is not at all difficult!

Here is another interesting, in my opinion, article (another method of knitting the thumb of a mitten is described here):

When knitting mittens and gloves, it is not always possible to take measurements from the “customer”. In such cases, size tables are very useful:

Knitted mouse mittens for ages 5-6 years

I have already posted a description of knitting mittens in the shape of little mice (or hedgehogs, whichever you prefer), which I knitted for my son Marcus last year.
This winter I found a simpler, more convenient and neat way to knit the “fur” of a mouse (or the “needles” of a hedgehog), i.e. the upper part of the mitten, knitted with “grass”.

The comments to the post are very interesting:

It seems to me that this model is not difficult to crochet, maintaining the same knitting principle as in the description, i.e. from going from the elastic to the top of the mitten, and then knitting a finger and a layer of “Grass”.
Elastic band can be tied raised columns , but you just have to knit not in a circle (around the wrist), but across (i.e. along the arm), and then, having knitted the desired width of the cuff, connect the beginning and end of the knitting with connecting posts. In this case, you should get an elastic cuff in the shape of a ring. Next, pick up single crochets along the edge and knit the mitten in a circle to the level of the thumb, then for the hole of the thumb, knit several loops with connecting stitches, and in the next row, in the same place, knit a chain of air loops. Then continue knitting in the round to the top of the mitten. For the “corner” of the mitten, knit 2 single crochets together on each side (you can come up with another rounding option). For the “wool” from Travka, simply cast on loops over the knitted mitten and knit in straight and reverse rows from the edge of the cuff to the beginning of the “corner”, then sew the fabric from Travka to the mitten itself.

the ears are just circles.
Those. If you have already completed the first 2 points, then now you need to knit 12 double crochets into the center of the circle made from 2 chain stitches.
How to knit a double crochet stitch is shown in the following picture:

Thus, you need to knit 12 such stitches (the circle should close) and then, to complete it, knit connecting post with the first column of the row.
By the way, if you are planning to learn how to crochet, I highly recommend looking into the topic Learning to crochet. From basics to mastery on the Osinka forum.

Current models of children's knitted mittens. Description and schemes of work.

Winter with frost and snow gives a lot of joyful emotions while playing with children. Parents are concerned about maintaining the health, warmth and comfort of their children, in particular about their hands.

Even if a child does not like wearing mittens and gloves, handicraft mothers come up with options for knitted warm products.

In action are:

  • yarn color and texture combinations
  • patterns and ornaments on the canvas
  • decor with beads, ears, eyes, buttons

We will talk about the most successful options for knitted mittens for children in the article.

Mittens with braided knitting needles for children 5 - 10 years old: diagram, description

children's mittens and hat, knitted braid pattern with shadow

Braids on mittens add originality to the product and add warming properties.

For work, choose yarn with wool and knitting needles whose diameter is equal to the thickness of the thread.

Before starting knitting:

  • take measurements of the child’s hands, draw a diagram of the mittens
  • knit a pattern from an elastic band and a pattern with braids
  • determine the knitting density
  • convert cm values to loops

We offer as an example knitting mittens with braids for a teenager:

  • cast on 52 loops and perform 20 rows with a 2x2 elastic band,
  • V last row add 2 loops,
  • knit a braid pattern according to the pattern added at the end of the section,
  • from the 10th row, add loops for the thumb branch - 2px3p, 3px3p, 2px3p. Do all of them with facials,
  • slip the thumb stitches onto a free knitting needle or pin, add 2 stitches and continue knitting the mittens in the round with a braid pattern,
  • At the height of the tip of the little finger, begin decreasing the loops at the beginning and end of both parts of the fabric. Your fingers should form a triangle,
  • Pull the final 4 loops with thread, cut it and hide it from the wrong side,
  • return to the auxiliary needle with the stitches set aside, pick up 2 loops and knit in the round,
  • at the height of the beginning of the nail plate of the thumb, divide the canvas into 2 parts and close the loops at the beginning and end of each,
  • Pull the final 2 loops with thread, remove its tip to the wrong side,
  • do the same work on knitting the second mitten.

Knitting patterns for mittens and patterns with braids are below.

Knitted owl mittens for girls: diagram, description

ready-made mittens with an owl pattern are worn on the girl’s hands

Warm and interesting mittens with owls on the front side are easy to make even for needlewomen with minimal experience.

Before starting work, complete all the preparatory steps as in the section above.

For mittens with owls, prepare:

  • wool yarn
  • 5 garter needles with different diameters and thread thicknesses
  • auxiliary knitting needle
  • hook
  • contrasting thread for embroidering eyes and beaks of owls

Note:

  • For small child knit straight fabrics of the palm and thumb,
  • The front side of each mitten is a background of purl loops. Knit owls on it,
  • Instead of embroidering eyes and beak, sew beads that match the color and shape.

The actual knitting patterns for the owl pattern and the pattern for making it in a contrasting color are presented below.

Double knitted warm mittens for girls and boys from 1 to 10 years: description

ready-made gray-white double mittens for baby, knitted

Warmer models of knitted children's mittens are double ones. But before you start creating them, think about the appearance.

To ensure that the baby puts on and wears them with pleasure, handicraft mothers choose:

  • combinations of yarn colors with imitation of cartoon characters
  • unusual patterns reminiscent of animals and birds, for example, owl braids
  • simple knitting of two mittens of different colors and then putting them on one another on the child’s hands

Having determined the knitting density and drawn a diagram of the mittens, get to work.

The special feature of the double model is the seamless knitting of the top and lining. That is, first you work on the front mitten, and then on the inner, purl one.

  • cast on the loops on the auxiliary thread and insert it in the place for knitting the thumb. Then it is convenient to pull it out, and transfer the open loops to the knitting needles and continue knitting,
  • knit the inner mitten using stockinette stitch in a mirror image of the outer one. That is, place your thumb on the same side.

Take the description of work for double mittens for boys, for example, from the picture below. But be sure to continue either knitting the inner mitten from the elastic, or pick up stitches for a new work.

For double mittens, brighter yarn tones are suitable for girls. And the knitting process itself is similar to that discussed above in the figure.

Things with ornaments are a classic in knitting. In this case, you will like the mittens:

  • for kids - a durable pattern that does not interfere with bending their arms during games and walks
  • mothers - for flights of fancy in choosing a design and beauty finished product

There are as many children's patterns for ornaments for mittens as there are handicraft mothers. As an example, here are a few interesting ones.

Knitted hedgehog mittens for kids made from grass with description

gray hedgehog mittens knitted for a child

Original hedgehog mittens will warm your hands and delight kids with their interesting look.

Knitting with knitting needles of this type is not particularly difficult, but requires care and patience

  • You will need 2 types of yarn of a similar shade - regular and grass.
  • After taking measurements of the child's arms, drawing the pattern and completing the knitting pattern, start creating the mittens.
  • Knit them using knitting needles in any way convenient for you without patterns using regular stockinette stitch.
  • From above to the row of transition of the elastic band in facial loops On the outside of the mitten, pick up loops with grass. Use the hook to lift them. Gather on knitting needles.
  • In total, the number of grass loops is equal to 2 knitting needles knitted fabric plus 4 for rounding.
  • Connect the beginning and end of each front row with the main fabric of the mitten.
  • Sew the last row of “needles” to the finished mitten and cut the thread.
  • Crochet the ears. They are semicircular and slightly elongated upward, located after the end of the spiky hair, and not in it.
  • Using black or pink yarn, embroider a nose for the hedgehog and add eyes. Ready-made elements made of plastic or crocheted.
  • For greater resemblance, sew decorations in the form of apples and leaves on top of the grass.

See below for a detailed description of knitting hedgehog mittens.

Knitted mouse mittens for kids made from grass: diagram with description

funny pink mouse mittens for girls made from grass, knitted

Toddlers and preschoolers will love these fluffy mittens with a mouse face. The presence of “grass” makes them soft and pleasant for little hands.

Prepare:

  • regular yarn and “grass” 50 g each, if you plan to knit mittens for a child 3-4 years old
  • scarf knitting needles with a thickness equal to the diameter of the thread
  • leftover black yarn for embroidering a nose
  • hook
  • black beads for mouse eyes

Operating procedure:

  • knit mittens according to the pattern that is most understandable to you,
  • after finishing the elastic band on the product, move on to the “grass” and stockinette stitch,
  • continue knitting until the stitches on the main fabric of the mitten begin to decrease,
  • return the regular yarn and decrease 4 stitches in each row at the beginning and end of 2 wedges, or alternate rows of decreases after one,
  • tie your thumb,
  • repeat steps to create a second mitten. Be careful where you place your thumb on it,
  • The mouse's ears are rounded and extended upward. Therefore, crochet them from 4-5 chain stitches and 2 rows of single crochets. Place the top row not above all the columns, but only above the central ones,
  • sew on the ears and eyes-beads, embroider the nose with black yarn,
  • for greater resemblance, crochet the tail of the mouse using air loops and sew grass in the first row on the outside of the mitten.

Transformable mittens with folding knitting needles for girls and boys: description

blue transformable mittens knitted with a convertible top on the hands of a boy

Active children sometimes need to reach their fingers when playing or answering the phone. It’s so inconvenient to take off the entire mitten and then put it on again. The solution is to knit mittens with a folding top for your child.

Outwardly, they resemble mittens with a cap that is attached to the outside of the fingers. Another difference is that they have a connected thumb house.

To knit transformable mittens, choose interesting patterns, for example, braids or voluminous “rice”.

The preparatory steps are similar to those discussed in the sections above.

Operating procedure:

  • Since the base of the mittens is the mittens, the beginning and end of the main fabric is made up of an elastic band. Its height is greater at the bottom,
  • leave 8-10 stitches for the thumb and knit in the pattern until the bend of the little finger,
  • change the pattern to a 2x2 elastic band and continue working until the beginning of the nail plate on the little finger,
  • at the level of the knuckles, lift loops from the main fabric in the amount of 2 knitting needles and add the same number minus 4,
  • on the inside of the palm, knit loops with an elastic band to a height of 1-2 cm, then go to the front stitch,
  • continue knitting in the round to the tip of the little finger,
  • decrease the loops in your usual way,
  • tie your thumb either after completing the convertible top or before starting work on it,
  • repeat the steps for the second transformable mitten.

How to knit two-color mittens for a girl and a boy?

two-color ready-made children's mittens knitted with knitting needles

The procedure for knitting mittens using knitting needles from 2 colors of yarn is similar to one-color. But there are many more combinations and weaves of yarn.

Needlewomen, depending on their imagination and knitting skills, choose:

  • simple alternation of colors, for example, in the form of horizontal stripes,
  • jacquard designs, when the outside of the mittens is decorated, for example, with butterflies, deer, snowflakes, snowmen, bullfinches, and on the inside - the colors of the yarn alternate through 1 loop or with vertical stripes,
  • embroidering finished mittens with a thread of a different color. At the same time, they imitate knitting a loop, marking both parts of it with contrasting yarn,
  • insert the second yarn only on the elastic band, thumb and tip of the mittens.

Let's insert a few photos for inspiration finished works for boy and girl.

Children's chanterelle mittens knitted: diagram with description

cute chanterelle mittens for a child, knitted with knitting needles

Continuing the theme of animals on children's mittens, let's turn your attention to foxes. Needlewomen knit them in different ways, trying to please children with a warm and cheerful thing.

Let’s conditionally divide the techniques for knitting chanterelle mittens into 2 categories:

  • simple
  • advanced

In the second case, you have individual elements:

  • the tail is the thumb
  • head with ears and eyes - sewn on top on the back of the mitten
  • 2 paws - hanging under the head. Some models do not have them, this is optional.

Knitted children's mittens with bullfinches: diagram with description

knitted lilac mittens with bullfinches for girls

One of winter birds What stays with us in the cold are bullfinches. Even if your winter is milder, warmer and without them, knit mittens for your child with their portrait.

Needlewomen knit such mittens with knitting needles in 2 ways:

  • bullfinches are knitted using knitting needles according to the pattern
  • create individual parts of the bird’s body by crocheting from multi-colored yarn and then sewing it to the finished product

The first option is good for mittens for teenagers and older. For a very tiny hand, for example, a 5-year-old child, such painstaking work on a drawing may turn off the needlework mother due to the length of knitting.

Therefore, a good alternative is the second option for knitting bullfinches. And the birds turn out to be more voluminous in this case.

Knit mittens using any of the previously discussed methods or the one that is closer and more understandable to you personally.

For girls, add delicate holes in the elastic band of the mittens. Pull crocheted laces through them with fur pom-poms at the ends.

In the version of mittens for a boy, make a drawing of bullfinches with a laconic branch and/or a couple of rowan berries.

The knitting pattern for the bullfinch pattern is below.

In the second case, decide on color scheme mittens. For example, you should end up with a striped smiling cat. Then knit the mittens with knitting needles, alternating strips of yarn. But make the toe in one color so that you can embroider eyes, a nose, a mustache and a smile on it. On both sides of the toe, tie the cat's ears with the second color.

Take any of the above descriptions of knitting mittens for children as a basis, just add a pattern of cats or give them the appropriate shape.

Children's paw mittens knitted: diagram with description

paw mittens in a knitted set for a child

For children who love cats and cat themes in their wardrobe, knit mittens with paws.

You need:

  • dark yarn 70 g and white yarn 20 g for paws
  • set of knitting needles
  • remaining yarn of any contrasting color
  • hook
  • scissors
  • needle with thread the color of the main yarn
  • flexible meter or ruler

Description of work:

  • take measurements of the child’s hand, knit a sample of the fabric with an elastic band and the main pattern, draw a diagram of the mittens indicating cm and the number of loops,
  • cast on the required number of loops, distribute them on the knitting needles and knit in a circle with an elastic band to a height of 7-8 cm,
  • go to the main pattern and, if desired, to knitting needles of larger diameter,
  • mark the place for the thumb by knitting loops with a contrasting thread,
  • At the height of the tip of the little finger, begin decreasing the loops. Since the cat’s paws are more oval than triangular, knit 2 loops together for the entire row. After a row without decreases. The next one is again 2 loops together,
  • Tighten the rest of the loops with thread. Hide its end inside the mitten,
  • crochet chains of air loops from white yarn. Carefully roll each one in a circle to form the base of the foot and the pads of the toes.
  • Either connect the chains into ready-made round sheets, or wind them onto ready-made mittens. In the second case, secure each circle on 4 sides with a needle and thread.

Knitting pattern for paw mittens:

burgundy children's mittens with knitting needles

The “bump” pattern is quite voluminous, so when knitting mittens for a child, do not get too carried away with it. Bumps on the canvas can prevent the handles from bending.

For example, continue the elastic on the back side in the middle of the fabric, followed by crossing the loops into a braid. At the top, add a fan of knit stitches that end in cones.

Or knit a wide sleeve area openwork pattern with the addition of cones. Separate this area on the wrist with a 1x1 or 2x2 elastic band, reducing some of the loops. Then continue knitting mittens in a way convenient for you.

Knitted mittens for teenage girls and boys

The knitted mitten is completed. Now you just need to knit the needles of the magic hedgehog with knitting needles, do everything correctly, because of a small mistake, you can ruin the entire product. Using the “Grass” thread, cast on 20 stitches of the very first row using the back side of the product. It will be better if you take a hook for this purpose, because if you take something else, due to some features of knitting, everything may go wrong.

Then we transfer the loops to the knitting needles and knit twelve centimeters with a “knit stitch” pattern. Remember: after this, sew the loops, without closing them, to the top half of your product. This should be done using a knitted seam. Sew hedgehog spines on both sides of the mitten with grass.

Ears, master class

If you want to knit mittens with ears, as in the photo, to knit the ears you need to crochet two air loops and connect them into a small ring. We crochet 20 double crochets in a circle. All. The ears for our hedgehogs are completed.

All that's left is sew the created ears to the mitten. After this we will also attach the spout.

Our work on this original one is now complete. knitted model children's mittens. We are sure that knitting brought you only joyful emotions and a great mood. So interesting method You can also knit a sock, but due to the very purpose of the product, you need to choose a different yarn, and the threads can be left the same, called weed.

Knitting and crocheting mittens is not at all difficult!
The most important thing is to take all the necessary measurements from your hand and make the correct calculation.
How to do this is described very well in the article below (click to enlarge):

Here is another interesting, in my opinion, article (another method of knitting the thumb of a mitten is described here):

When knitting mittens and gloves, it is not always possible to take measurements from the “customer”. In such cases, size tables are very useful:

Knitted mouse mittens for ages 5-6 years

I have already posted in the form of little mice (or hedgehogs - whichever you prefer), which I knitted for my son Marcus last year.
This winter I found a simpler, more convenient and neat way to knit the “fur” of a mouse (or the “needles” of a hedgehog), i.e. the upper part of the mitten, knitted with “grass”.

In order to knit mittens in the shape of mice (hedgehogs) with knitting needles we will need:

50 grams of pink yarn (Viking Baby Ull, 100% wool, 50 grams = 175 m., color 366(2)).
You need to knit in two threads!;
- approx 30 gr. “Grass” is pink;
- stocking needles No. 3 (5 pcs.);

Description of work:

Based on the description above, I made the following drawing of the mitten:

I simplified the drawing a little by making the top and bottom halves of the mitten the same.
In addition, in my opinion, it is more correct to place your thumb at the very edge of the lower half of the mitten.
In the process of knitting mittens, it is very convenient to have such a life-size drawing in front of your eyes and compare with it what you get on your knitting needles.

And now let's move on to knitting our mice :-)

1. Cast on 32 loops with the main thread and knit 20 rows (5.5 cm) with a 1x1 elastic band;

2. In the 21st row, switch to knitting in stockinette stitch, add 4 more loops [=36 stitches, 9 loops per needle] and knit in the circle in stockinette stitch for 16 rows;

3. In the 17th row, to form the thumb hole, knit 6 loops with a contrasting thread, then transfer them again to the left knitting needle and knit again with the main thread;

4. Knit 25 rows in stockinette stitch. Then, to form the “corner” of the mitten, on knitting needles 1 and 3, knit the 1st and 2nd loops together, and on knitting needles 2 and 4, swap the last and penultimate loops and knit together. When 4 loops remain, break the thread and pull it through all the loops using a hook, then hide the thread inside;

5. To knit the thumb: remove the auxiliary thread, put the resulting loops (6 at the bottom and 7 at the top) on the knitting needles, add 1 loop on the right and left and knit 17 rows in a circle with the main thread. Then close in the same way as in step 4;

6. Knit the “fur” of the mouse as follows: using the “Grass” thread, cast on 20 loops from the loops of the first row of the upper half of the mitten using a hook, transfer the loops to the knitting needles and knit a rectangle 11-12 cm long using stockinette stitch. Next, without covering the loops, sew them on to the upper half of the mitten with a horizontal knitted seam. Sew the “fur” to the sides of the mitten;

7. For ears: 2 ch. connect into a ring and knit 12 sts. Sew the ears to the mitten. Make the nose and eyes from beads.

The mittens are ready!
