Making a crocheted souvenir - amulet “Lapti”

According to legend, it is in bast shoes that the brownie lives. Therefore, after hanging a bast shoe on a wall or closet, the brownie needs to be invited: “Here’s a sleigh for you, come with us.”

Necessary materials and tools:

Yarn in green, red, black, yellow colors;

hemp rope; hook; scissors; cardboard; pencil;

glue "Moment"; natural materials.

Technological map for making a souvenir - amulet “Lapti”:

1. We knit a pair of bast shoes, 3 red hot peppers, and a sunflower flower.

2. We attach a long rope to the peppers, which we weave together with a braid.

3. We attach strings to the bast shoes, which we tie into a knot.

4. Cut out a circle from cardboard, slightly smaller than a sunflower flower.

5. Lubricate a cardboard circle with glue, place a pigtail from peppers and a knot from bast shoes on it. Place a sunflower flower on top and press down.

6. We glue natural materials inside the bast shoes.

Crocheted decorative elements for the souvenir-amulet “Lapti”:

Large sunflower: Middle (black thread):

1st row: 4 ch are connected into a ring with a connecting post (ss), 3 ch for lifting the row, 14 dc in the ring, ss (15 dc)

2nd row: 1 ch on the rise of the row, (2 sbn, increase) 5 times (20 sbn).

Petals (yellow thread):

Row 1: (ch 10, ss) 20 times. We knit the middle of the flower with air loops.

Red pepper - large (start with green thread):

2nd row: 6 increases (12). Change the thread to red.

Rows 3-7: no change (12)

Row 8: decrease, 10 sc (11)

Row 9: decrease, 9 sc (10)

Row 10: decrease, 8 sc (9)

Row 11: decrease, 7 sc (8)

Row 12: no change (8)

Row 13: decrease, 6 sc (7)

Row 14: no changes (7). Fill with padding polyester.

Row 15: decrease, 5 sc (6)

Row 16: decrease until the end, finish the work, cut the thread.

Bast shoes: Option 1 (thread gray)

3rd row: (sc, increase) 6 times (18)

4th row: (2 sc, increase) 6 times (24)

5-7 row: no changes (24)

Sole (knit like a straight fabric)

8th row: 1 ch on the rise of the row, starting from the 2nd loop from the hook 16 sc.

Turn knitting.

Rows 9 -18: knit as row 1 (16 sc)

We fold the sole in half and tie it on the wrong side with connecting posts. Fasten the thread, cut it, hide it.

Option 2 (beige thread):

1st row: 5 air loops starting from the second loop from the hook: 3 sc, 3 sc in last stitch, turn clockwise, 3sc, increase (12)

2nd row: increase, 3 sbn, 3 increases, 3 sbn, 2 increases (18)

3rd row: increase, 5 sbn, increase, sbn, increase, sbn, increase, 4 sbn, increase, sbn, increase (24)

4-7 row: no changes (24)

8 row: 8 sbn, decrease, 4 sbn, decrease, 8 sbn (22)

From the last loop, which is located behind the leg, we knit a chain of 22 ch, wrap it around the leg, where the white sock is, and fasten it at the back in the same place with a ss. We thread the needle, fasten it and hide it.

For Russian folk costumes we needed bast shoes. Where to get? It is impossible to buy, there is nothing to weave from. I decided to try knitting from hemp rope. I rummaged around on the Internet and found an idea on how to crochet. Again, there is no hook, and they are not very similar in shape to real bast shoes.

Hunting is worse than captivity: I didn’t have any thick knitting needles either, so let’s get to work wooden sticks for barbecue. As a result, I knitted four pairs of different sizes: for a 3-year-old child, for a seven-year-old girl, for myself (p. 36-37) and for my husband (p. 42-43).

What I got was not bast shoes, but onuchi; they are also suitable for our purposes.

To knit all sizes of bast shoes, I used hemp rope with a diameter of 3-3.5 mm.

Bast shoes for a seven-year-old

We cast on 12 stitches on the knitting needles and knit 54 rows in garter stitch. The result is a rectangle measuring 12cm by 28cm.

Then we sew the heel on one side.

On the other side we bend it by 6cm. and stitch along the sides.

We insert the same hemp rope into the back for the ties and get a bast shoe.

Bast shoes for a three-year-old

We cast on 11 stitches on the knitting needles and knit 44 rows in garter stitch. It turns out to be a rectangle measuring 10 cm by 23 cm. Then we sew the heel on one side and bend it 5 cm on the other. and stitch along the sides. We insert the same hemp rope into the back for the ties and get a bast shoe.

Size 36-37

We cast on 14 stitches on the knitting needles and knit 60 rows in garter stitch. The result is a rectangle measuring 14cm by 32cm. Then we sew the heel on one side and bend it 9cm on the other. and stitch along the sides. We insert the same hemp rope into the back for the ties and get a bast shoe. To maintain the squareness of the sock when performing, I stuffed a little padding polyester into the corners of the sock.

It's no secret that things made with your own hands have powerful positive energy.

Today I will help you make an original protective souvenir - a bast shoe.

Lapti are shoes made of bast, which were worn by the Slavic population of Eastern Europe for many centuries.

Since ancient times in Rus', bast shoes have been a talisman of family happiness and home comfort. You can also give a bast shoe as a gift to a loved one as protective agent. The main task of such a simple amulet is to “break the eye” (distract an unkind gaze from a person).

Interestingly, in Rus' there was a tradition of throwing bast shoes at their rivals. If the bast shoe reached its goal, it was believed that by this action the girl was driving her rival away from her lover, and at the same time removing the love spell that she could cast on her boyfriend.

Our bast will be knitted. And knitting has long been considered a real magical art.

You will need:

Hook No. 2 (2.25)
- cotton yarn, high twist (approx. 300-350 g/100m)
- wood beads
- metal carabiner
- wooden buttons or other decor for decoration (optional)
- needle for knitwear
- scissors for cutting threads.

Description:

1. Cast on a chain of 6 chain stitches.

1 row.

Lifting loop, 1 single crochet in the first chain stitch. (this is the future heel), 4 single crochets - one in each loop of the chain.

In the last loop, knit 6 single crochets (this is the future toe of the shoe).

Repeat in reverse order: 4 single crochets, single crochet in first stitch. Finish the row with a connecting post.

2nd row.

Lifting loop. In the next stitch, work 2 single crochets (heel extension).

Next, knit one single crochet into each loop - 4 times (4 single crochets).

Shape the front of the sole:

Knit 1 half-stitch

1 half double crochet and 1 double crochet in one loop

2 double crochets in one loop

3 double crochets in one loop

Attention! If you want to knit paired bast shoes, then when going through this row of the second bast shoe, you need to first knit 3 double crochets in one loop, and then 2 double crochets in one loop.

1 double crochet and 1 half double crochet in one loop

1 half column

4 single crochets in each stitch

2 single crochets in one loop

Finish the row with a connecting column.

The sole is tied.

Attention!

Knit the stitches behind the inner wall of the loop! The result will be a neat edging around the perimeter of the sole.

4 row.

1 lifting loop, 2 single crochets with a common top (the heel is formed)

5 single crochets in each stitch

1 half double crochet and 1 double crochet with a common top

1 double crochet

3 double crochets with a common top

1 double crochet

1 double crochet and 1 half double crochet

5 single crochets

2 single crochets with a common top

Connecting post

Row 5 (final): knit a connecting stitch into each loop behind the back wall.

Leave a long tail (approx. 30 cm), cut the thread.

Secure the thread of the initial row by threading it from the inside of the sole.

Fasten the thread last row, making a couple of stitches on the inside of the heel.

Bring the thread from the inside to the center of the heel.

String the beads and carabiner.

Pull the thread back inside out through both beads.

Fasten from the inside out. Cut the thread

If you wish, sew on a button, beads, or a knitted flower.

Progress

Russian bast shoes are one of the most important symbols of traditional Russian life. Lapti are low shoes, common in Rus', woven from wood bast (linden, birch bark). The bast shoe was tied to the leg with laces twisted from bast. For a pair of bast shoes, it was necessary to peel off as many as three small stickies.

Poem by Mikhail Burchak “Lapti”:

Look at the pair of bast bast shoes,

They're worth a look, by the way.

In our age, among intricate things,

There are no more ingenious and simpler shoes.

Don't look down on bast shoes,

Interrupting the intelligent conversation with annoyance.

Such bast shoes for many centuries,

Our grandparents wore them.

When your great-grandfather was a young man,

He loved his great-grandmother dearly.

Then he went on a date with her,

Without feeling the bast shoes underneath.

In bast shoes, smart and quiet,

She met her fiance

And he seemed to her in bast shoes

More beautiful than all earthly kings.

Don't miss out on happiness in a hurry.

Here's a good sign for you:

Happiness comes in bast bast shoes,

He leaves in patent leather boots.

You are not in a hurry to hand over your bast shoes to the museum,

Let at least a couple be in your home.

Be, like a bast shoe, everyone modest,

And unnoticeable in its simplicity.

Although the bast shoe is good, it itself is worth a penny.

That is why it is not for nothing that there are a pair of bast shoes.

At the same time, don’t forget:

Two sandals, but one path.

It’s not so easy to buy bast shoes; not everyone can weave bast shoes from bast, and it’s better to make them yourself, it’s much more profitable and practical.

You can weave bast shoes from knitted fabric, as it is soft and pliable.

Using scissors, cut strips of fabric about 1 centimeter.

Sew the strips into one “thread”.

To make a size 27 bast shoe, you need to crochet a chain of 13-15 air loops. Then the working thread is crocheted sequentially into each next loop of the chain and the working thread is pulled into the previous loop until you get a trace of the length you need.

We knit the resulting top of the bast sock in a circle and secure the fabric. We knit the laces with a regular chain and fasten them to the “heel”.

One bast shoe is ready, we boldly proceed to the second, and say, “We slurp tea without bast shoes,” which means we are learned, there is no need to explain to us.

The bast shoes turn out to be beautiful, and most importantly unique, because they will be made with your own hands.
