Master class on sewing a handbag at home:

1. Start by cutting out the pieces, not forgetting the seam allowances.
2. Glue with interlining using an iron.
3. Sew on the pocket, connect the parts. Trim unnecessary elements.

Good afternoon, dear seamstresses)). I had a fruitful sewing week. Therefore, I share with you the results of my inspiration. Today I will show you how easy and fast it is. It took me 4 hours to do all the sewing. And what a bag it turned out to be! Just a dream!

Bag pattern

The bag will have a small inner pocket without a zipper (we simplify the task so as not to sew in a zipper; otherwise we will have to make a pocket like this), handles made of grosgrain ribbon, the bag will be fastened with a zipper, decorated on one side with a Dolce & Gabbana label, on the other side - decorative zipper.

So let's get started.

First, let's look at the pattern. The base is a rectangle with sides 45 and 40 cm.

Handles are 55 cm long. They are sewn at a distance of 20 cm from each other.

The inner pocket has a size of 15 by 13 cm, with allowances we cut out a rectangle with sides of 17 and 15 cm.

You also need to make a comfortable bar for holding the handles. This is a rectangle with sides 13 and 12 cm.

How to sew a bag with your own hands

For the bag I needed:

• bag fabric (nylon, for covers) - 0.5 m
• lining fabric - 0.5 m
• grosgrain ribbon - 1.2 m
• Rolled zipper - 1 m
• zipper slider
• label Dolce & Gabbana

We cut out rectangles with sides of 48 and 43 cm (including allowances of 1.5 cm) from the main and lining fabric.

We cut out a pocket. We process the upper cut with a double hem.

Sew the patch pocket to one of the lining pieces. We place the pocket on the fabric, 8.5 cm away from the middle of the upper cut of the lining part (this is already taking into account allowances).

Sew the lining pieces together, placing them face to face. Only the sides need to be sewn, as we will be turning the bag inside out through the cut at the bottom of the lining. We process the allowances with a zig-zag.

Now we sew the label onto the front part of the bag. I bought a sewing label, they come on hooks. The main thing is to place it in the center of the bag at a distance of 23 cm from the top edge of the part.

We cut out the handles from the grosgrain ribbon, with allowances for the length of the handles = 58 cm.

In order to make the pens comfortable to hold in your hand, we will make special holders from fabric; on bags for heavy things, such holders are made soft, and we will simply make them for beauty and convenience.

We cut out rectangles with allowances with sides of 15 and 13 cm.

On two parallel sides we sew seam allowances to the wrong side:

Then on the other two sides we turn in the allowances and combine them, connecting the allowances inside. You should end up with tubes like this:

We sew them on a typewriter.

We thread rep belts into these tubes. We pin and sew handles on the front side of the bag parts:

We sew a zipper on the second part of the bag in the center for decoration.

Now we put the parts face to face and sew on three sides (except for the top).

Making corners at the bottom of the bag:

A strip of the main fabric must be sewn to the upper edge of the lining, and a zipper must be sewn between them.

Therefore, we cut out a strip of black nylon 100 cm long and 4 cm wide.

Now we put the zipper on the front side of the lining with the wrong (inner) side. Sew it on.

Sew the second part of the zipper to the second half of the lining. There should be 3 cm of zipper along the edges, which will then be hidden in the lining of the bag.

We process the edges with a zig-zag, since under the zipper there is a raw cut of the lining.

Now we make an interfacing stitch on the front side of the lining near the zipper at a distance of 1 mm from the seam, this way we sew the lining to the seam allowances and the slider will not “chew” the lining.

With interfacing stitching, the lining looks “well-groomed.” You can also iron the seam.

Now we sew the strip to the zipper. And then the entire lining to the top edge of the bag. At this point, the lining is on top, and the bag itself is inside, face to face.

Turn the bag right side out and sew an interfacing stitch, leaving 2 mm from the seam. With this stitch we secure the visible edge of the bag (where the bag meets the strip on the lining) and strengthen the handles.

All that remains is to sew up the lining and make corners for the voluminous bottom on the lining.
