Nail design is an area of the beauty industry where original innovations are always welcomed. This one also includes fashionable novelty: gel polish – a special composition with an innovative base. To make the surface of the nail plate perfectly smooth, with a beautiful glossy shine, you need to know how to apply gel polish. Experienced nail specialists have everything they need at hand, but is it really necessary to turn to the services of salons? Is there a technology that helps create a durable coating on your nails at home?

Benefits of gel polish

If you want to have beautiful nails, natural and well-groomed, but you don’t like to repaint them every other day, then the beauty industry is ready to offer two options: gel polish and Shellac coating. Similar concepts have some fundamental differences. When applying shellac, you do not have to pre-sand the nail plate; you just need to degrease it. The desire to use gel polish to create a beautiful manicure will require a mandatory step - polishing the nail, but it lasts longer, mixing bases and palettes gives an unlimited number of design options.

The next fundamental difference between the two types of coatings concerns removal. You can remove Shellac using a special product, but to remove the polymer coating, which combines the strength of gel and varnish paint, you will first need to destroy the top layer. Damage-resistant coating is safe if certified materials are used and application technology is followed.

Application technology

Even such a simple procedure requires a careful approach to studying the technology. Before applying gel polish, you need to take care of choosing the material. Next, decide on the availability of tools, if necessary, buy them. Consider purchasing ready set, the price of which will ultimately help you save money than buying the necessary materials separately. Carefully study the technique, how to apply it correctly gel coating, follow the recommendations so that your manicure remains beautiful for three weeks.

Preparing the nail plate

The sequence of the procedure matters, so the work on applying gel polish will begin with processing the nail plate. The cuticle is removed at will, and the nail edge is necessarily formed using a nail file. Ideally, the nail should be smooth, without traces of dust, suitable shape. If cream or oil was used during care, then before the next stage the nail plate will have to be degreased to avoid detachment and make the coating resistant to external factors.

Removing the top keratin coating with a buff

Grinding is a mandatory stage of technology. The top layer of the nail is polished using a buff with a high abrasiveness coefficient. It is necessary to remove the glossy layer, then the polymer coating will retain its beautiful appearance for a long time. Do not touch the treated nail plate with your fingers; dust and residues are removed with a brush.

Primer application

For better adhesion of the nail plate to the gel polish, a primer is applied. A weakened nail plate after polishing becomes weak and soft. Therefore, there is a need to use a primer as a means of strengthening natural nail. Since manufacturers produce modern versions of primers without methacrylic acid, you can use this product without fear that it is harmful to your health.

Nail coating

The main rule is to apply the gel in a thin layer. Using a brush, gradually apply the base layer from the free edge, using progressive rubbing movements. Therefore, the material is picked up on the brush in a small amount, passing over the entire nail plate, paying attention to the end. The gel should not get on the cuticle or skin, and then the nail with the polymer coating applied to it should be placed in a UV or LED lamp. It will take one minute for the base to dry in the first device, and the other will dry the gel in 10 seconds.

Finishing

At the final stage, the mandatory use of a finishing agent is provided. Unlike the base, it is applied in a thick layer along the entire length of the nail plate and always at the end of the nail. The final coating helps the nail acquire a fashionable glossy shine, provided that the gel has dried well. It is recommended to apply a transparent Cleanser with moisturizing components on top of it to protect the nail from drying out. After it dries, the gel polish application procedure is completed.

But many of them run into problems after the coating has been applied. This can happen for several reasons. Firstly, they may use low quality materials.   • UV lamp or ice lamp. When choosing a lamp, pay attention to the power. For independent work A device with a power of 14 W is quite sufficient. In an ice lamp, the polymerization of particles will take place twice as fast, and its cost is corresponding. The lamp must have a timer, since the nail drying time is determined accurately;
  • gel polish for painting. And it’s better to have several so that it can work out bright design, choose colors at your discretion;
  • primer – ensures strong adhesion of the dye to the nail plate;

Preparatory stage:

carefully remove the old coating from the surface of the nail, do a hygienic manicure with cuticle removal, file down the entire surface of the nail with a buffer - this will ensure strong adhesion of all products. Degrease the surface of the nail with a special product, and then do not touch them at all.

Gel polish application stage:

a painstaking and long process, which must be approached very responsibly. How to apply gel polish? Before applying colored gel polish, coat your nails with a base coat and dry in a lamp for 2 minutes. After that, we proceed to the coating itself. Apply a thin layer of coating, avoiding the appearance of drops on the brush - remove them back into the container with varnish. The application technology is similar to regular painting with nail polish. Try to do it beautifully so that the coloring matter does not extend beyond the boundaries of the nail. Dry the first layer in a lamp for 2 minutes. If necessary, apply further layers of varnish to ensure a rich shade.

Shellac is gel and polish in one bottle. The coating lasts 2-3 weeks. But simply painting your nails with this product is not enough. Let's look at how to properly apply gel polish step by step. Violation of the technology will lead to the varnish quickly chipping or losing its shine.

You need to apply gel polish to your nails in stages to achieve the desired effect.

You don't need to go to a beauty salon and pay for the services of a specialist. You can completely apply shellac correctly at home. To do this you need to work step by step and have the following:

  • manicure set;
  • orange sticks and sponges;
  • Ultraviolet lamp;
  • grinder (buff);
  • disinfectant, cuticle oil;
  • base (transparent gel), color coating, finish gel;
  • various accessories: glitter, slider stickers, foil, stamping.

To apply gel polish correctly, you will need manicure tools.

Many people do not understand how to distinguish shellac from any other gel polish. The CND company created a hybrid of varnish and gel, patenting the name “shellac”. Therefore, there are many names: shellac (CND), color gel, color gel. Different companies - different names.

Stage 1. Preparing your nails

Correct step-by-step application of gel polish affects the final result. If an error is made during the work process, the coating begins to peel off and crack within the first days (hours). To make your hands happy with a magnificent manicure, do everything correctly, step by step.

First, let's prepare our nails for applying the gel. For this:

  • Apply to nail plates correct form using a fine-grained file.
  • Remove the keratin layer. You will need a coarse sander (buff). We need a matte surface, and to do this, carefully remove the gloss. If processed harshly, the plate will become thin and brittle.
  • We push back the cuticle with an orange stick and do a shallow manicure.

  • Cover the treated nails with bonding agent (drying agent).

Now it's time to apply layers of gel.

Stage 2. Applying the base

It would be correct to put a layer of primer under the base. This is a solution that contains a fragment of nucleic acid. It will protect your nails from peeling, and your manicure will look like new for a long time. Now you need to apply the base.

The base is a transparent gel that firmly binds the natural nail structure and the colored gel together. Apply the base coat with a brush designed for this purpose. Do it correctly: take a drop of gel and carefully, without touching the skin, make rubbing movements from the edge to the cuticle, then in the opposite direction. Each layer should be thin. Dry the coating in a UV or LED lamp. You need to apply 1-2 layers of base coat.

An important point in step-by-step instructions– applying the base

After the base has hardened, a dispersion layer is formed. Gently smooth it out with a dry brush. Then the colored gel will lie flat.

Stage 3. Apply color coating

Applying color base is easy. If you've ever painted them at home regular varnish, then you will apply shellac correctly. If you apply shellac too thickly, you will get waves and bubbles. Apply gel polish correctly, after completely drying the previous layer. In total you need to complete 1-3 layers. Please pay Special attention at the end (end). “Seal” it as carefully as possible.

The varnish will adhere more firmly if you carefully seal the ends

Don't forget to dry each layer in a lamp.

Stage 4. Apply finishing gel

To fix the base coating and give a beautiful shine, you need to apply a finishing gel (top). Here you need to make a layer denser than all the previous ones. Then we dry it in a lamp as usual.

We treat the finished manicure with a disinfectant to remove the dispersion layer. It's time to apply nourishing oil to the cuticle.

With the top coat applied, your nails look perfect

Types of shellac coating

You can do shellac coating correctly and beautifully at home. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, with interesting new products appearing. Plain matte manicure I'm bored and want to experiment. For example:

  • Use accessories: glitter, slider stickers, stamping, foil.
  • Cover with Bluesky gel from the “Cat's Eye” collection.
  • To make a French jacket is not simple, but colorful.
  • Cover with mirror gel polish.

Even for short nails you can come up with and apply interesting drawings, patterns, ornaments

You won’t be able to make such beauty right away at home, but it’s not difficult to learn.

Using Accessories

Having glitter for manicure, a couple of stencils and professional foil at home, you can gradually create real masterpieces on your hands. Place glitter on top of the main color, so the manicure will look more original.

Water stickers (slider) or photo stickers are also very good. They need to be applied to the main color or base. Photo design is afraid of water, and slider stickers need to be wet first. In order for the design to stick well, you need to apply a top coat on top.

Stamping is a modern trend in nail design. You can perform this procedure at home. You will need:

  • metal plate with engraved designs;
  • stamp;
  • scraper.

You select a pattern on the plate, cover it with varnish, and then remove the excess with a scraper. Use the stamp to transfer the pattern onto the nail. With the help of such a device you will make the finest openwork designs. Stamping is easy to use even for a beginner.

Applying such a design is actually not difficult - just master the stamping technique

Foil is a real lifesaver. You can create a mirror design, or you can tear the foil and make original designs. Or stick a slider picture on one nail.

How to apply Bluesky shellac from the “Cat's Eye” collection on nails

The Bluesky brand has released a series of colored gels called “Cat Eye”. It contains particles that are attracted by a magnet (included in the kit). A pattern similar to a cat's eye stone is formed.

It's easy to apply Bluesky Cat's Eye at home. Proceed step by step: after treating your hands, covering them with base, you can apply Bluesky magnetic gel polish from the “Cat Eye” series. Immediately bring the magnet very close to the nail for 5-10 seconds. Use it correctly. Do not touch the painted surface with the magnet. Metal particles contained in the gel color will be attracted to the surface. The “Cat's Eye” drawing is ready.

To apply “Cat Eye”, you need to follow the instructions step by step

To further highlight the beauty of Bluesky Cat Eye polishes, use glitter or a slider. Stamping is quite appropriate. It is also necessary to apply a finishing gel.

How to make a French

French manicure (French) never goes out of fashion because it looks great on any length of nails. It's quite easy to do this manicure at home. We carry out step by step everything that we did before: preparation - base coat - application of the main color. Now we do French.

We draw the smile line ourselves or use stickers. Cover the tip of the nail plate with colored gel polish. Choose color options that are contrasting or differ only in intensity.

Interesting jacket options will highlight the look

Girls increasingly began to do the “Hollywood French” with a metallic tint. To create this effect, use foil. Gently stick it onto the tip of your nail. Remove the remaining foil using a file. Cover the finished jacket with finishing gel.

Fashionistas will be interested in the reverse (lunar) jacket. The entire nail plate (including the end) is covered with a matte varnish of a dark shade, and the area near the cuticle remains transparent or is painted over with a lighter shade. Try using foil instead of varnish.

French and stamping go well together. Especially if you're doing a classic French manicure. Openwork stamping will look simply gorgeous. Glitter or slider stickers will do.

Mirror manicure

The Bluesky company has created a wonderful mirror gel polish. Stunning molten metal effect finish. This manicure can be done in stages using foil, but Bluesky gels are much easier to use. To do it step by step mirror manicure, you need to purchase a Bluesky metallic base and a stained glass coating.

A metallic base coat is applied to the regular base coat, followed by a stained glass finish. If you cover the Bluesky mirror varnish immediately with a top coat, without a stained glass layer, then the entire effect of molten metal will disappear.

Mirror gel polish will suit ideal nails

Highlight the mirror design using glitter or slider stickers. You can gradually combine the use of Bluesky varnishes and stamping. Or use foil as an extra.

Single-phase gel polishes

You can do without a base and fixer if you use a single-phase gel. It is enough to remove the matte layer from the plate with a buff and immediately apply a single-phase varnish. But it flows down to the cuticles, so you need to work quickly, otherwise unevenness and air bubbles will form. If you are a beginner and decide to try a single-phase manicure, ask the client to keep her fingers down. This way the gel will lie more evenly. Single-phase gel should be applied in 2-3 layers, drying each layer in stages in a lamp.

To perform this manicure step by step, you will need several layers.

Single-phase varnish goes well with accessories. But if you used glitter or slider stickers, cover your nails with top coat or clear varnish. Otherwise, all the beauty will come off.

Single-phase varnish can be applied much faster than shellac. But is it right to immediately cover your nails with gel polish or is it better to apply a base? If you need a longer lasting result, still take care of the base.

Gel polish is a combination of gel and varnish, which, when exposed to the UV rays of a specialized lamp, gives nails special strength. Despite the fact that today almost all nail specialists provide services for covering nails with this product, sometimes girls still find it difficult to find time to go to the salon, but they want to be well-groomed and unique in any life situation. Therefore, in order for you to always be “in trend,” we will teach you how to apply gel polish step by step at home.

Benefits of gel polish

What should you have on hand?

Before you do a manicure with a long-term coating, you need to figure out what you need to have with you to create it. So, correct application gel polish is impossible without the following elements that we will need at various stages:

  • UV lamp with a power of at least 36w;
  • Hand sanitizer;
  • Fine nail file (preferably for natural nails);
  • Coarse buff;
  • Orange cuticle stick;
  • Lint-free wipes;
  • Degreaser (dehydrator) – a means for cleansing and matting the nail plate;
  • Primer - this product ensures the best bonding of the gel to the nail plate;
  • The base is a basic transparent gel (strengthens and protects the nail from the penetration of the coloring pigment of the colored gel into it);
  • Colored gel polish;
  • Finish gel or top – consolidation of the result.

Stages of applying gel polish

We cast aside all doubts, prepared the necessary “arsenal” and got to work! It should be noted that before you start applying gel polish, for an ideal result you need to get a manicure.

  1. The first mandatory step is hand disinfection. Before starting any “work” with nails, you must wash your hands or treat them with a disinfectant solution.
  2. Using an orange stick, carefully push the cuticle as far as possible - this will open the nail plate as much as possible.
  3. If necessary, lightly file the nail with a nail file to give it the desired shape.
  4. Next, we “mattify” the surface of the nails with a buff. It is important not to overdo it here, otherwise the plate will become sawed and damaged.
  5. Using a degreaser and a lint-free cloth, remove any remaining dust and at the same time “dry” the nail. There is no need to make sudden movements so as not to “stain” the prepared surface.
  6. Apply primer - important element, on which the durability of long-term manicure depends, among other things. It is important to distribute it over the entire nail plate and not forget the end.
  7. Base coat – the base is applied in a thin layer and is responsible for the strength of the nail. Take some clear gel polish and in a circular motion distribute it from the edge of the nail plate to the cuticle. Important: do not flood the cuticle and do not overload either the base of the nail plate or the edge of the nail.
  8. Next, dry in a lamp for 1 minute. After drying, the nail has a sticky layer, so you can make adjustments and even out the result. But there is no need to remove the sticky layer at this stage; it serves as “cement” for the colored gel polish.
  9. Take the main color. If you want to get the “effect” of a natural nail, you can apply a light coating of any nude shade in one layer. If you need a bright and dense manicure, use 2 or 3 layers. The main thing here is not to “thicken” the nail plate; the layers should be thin. Don't forget about the end of the nail - we paint it too for a high-quality result. After each layer, dry in a lamp for 2 minutes.
  10. At the final stage we apply the top coat. It is created to consolidate the result and give additional shine to the nails. You don’t have to regret the top, but don’t forget about the cuticle - it should be free from varnish. Dry in a lamp for at least 30 seconds and use a degreaser to remove the sticky layer.

We have described the gel polish coating technology step by step so that you can immediately achieve the desired result. But remember! You cannot skip any of the steps given and break the sequence! Then the result will meet your expectations, and the spectacular manicure will be long-lasting and neat! Share in the comments what secrets of applying gel polish do you know?
