Works made from salt dough are called testoplasty; currently this is a common type of needlework. In ancient times, probably ever since people learned to make flour, they began to make figures from dough. This creativity is widespread in all countries of the world. And how much joy testoplasty classes bring to little fidgets! Dough is a pleasant and pliable material that children work with with great pleasure. Testoplasty is one of the types of folk applied art. Why did I decide to do testoplasty with children? preschool age?! Scientists have proven that the development of hands is closely related to the development of a child’s speech and thinking. Working with a test is a kind of exercise that helps in the development of subtle differentiated movements, coordination, and tactile sensations necessary when working with young children.
The leaves sparkle with bright colors -
The wind blows and they fly around...
Like butterflies, the leaves are fluttering,
Spinning in the sky, flying, flying
They lie on the ground like a motley carpet
They rustle under our feet -
Everyone is talking about autumn coming soon!

Everything crawls along the leaf
And it gnaws at the edges.
And when he grows up a little,
The body will be wrapped in a cocoon.
And a moment later,
To everyone's surprise,
Having escaped from captivity,
She will flutter like a butterfly.
1. Prepare required material.

Making the dough:: 1 cup salt, 2 cups flour, 0.5 cup water. For elasticity, add 2 tablespoons to the dough. vegetable oil, you can also add cosmetic cream, 2 tablespoons of wallpaper glue. I added some PVA glue. Mix salt, flour and PVA glue, gradually add cold water, mix thoroughly, determine the readiness of the dough by whether it sticks to your hands or not. As soon as the dough stops sticking to your hands, it is ready.

2. Roll out the dough, divide into pieces, apply a template of leaves and cut out in a stack. We need three leaves.

3. Next, place your palm on the next piece of salt dough and press it slightly. The result is a piece of paper in the shape of a child’s handprint.

Autumn crafts can be made not only from natural materials, but also from salt dough. I bring to your attention an original craft.

Materials:

1. in order to knead the dough you need:

Wheat flour - 100 g.
* Rye flour - 100 g.
* Salts - 400 g.
* Water - 250 mg.
* Dry wallpaper glue - 2 tablespoons.

2. leaf shape

3. knife

4. base in the form of a circle for a wreath

5. hot glue

6. food coloring: green, red, yellow

7.oven

8. rolling pin

9. wallpaper glue

Progress:

1. First of all, you need to make the dough. To do this, we will mix the above ingredients together.

Advice: Add water to the dough little by little and only cold. The salt should be fine and homogeneous. Excess salt can make the dough brittle and brittle. Before adding to the dough, dry wallpaper glue is diluted with warm water to the consistency of sour cream.

Preparing the dough
Mix sifted flour, wallpaper glue and fine salt, pour in water.
To prevent the dough from tearing and crumbling during the modeling process, it must be kneaded and kneaded well.

2. For coloring, food coloring is used, which is added to the kneaded dough.
Yellow dough - 2 drops of yellow dye per 100 g of dough
Green dough - 2 drops of green dye per 100 g of dough
Lilac dough - 2 drops of red dye and 1 drop of blue per 100 g of dough
If the dough needs to be colored in several colors, then it is divided into parts and each part is colored separately.

3. Cut out the leaves from the dough on a baking sheet: in this case, the back side of the product will remain flat. The baking tray should be moistened with water before use.

4. When the molds are ready, put them in the oven. The 5 mm thick product is dried at a temperature of 75C for 1 hour. Then 30 minutes - at a temperature of 100C, then another 30 minutes - at 125C and 1 hour - at 150C

Advice : Before drying, turn on the oven at the lowest heat setting. The baking sheet is placed on the top shelf and kept there until the product begins to brown. After this, the baking sheet is moved to the middle shelf.

If, during drying, bubbles begin to appear on the product or it begins to swell, it is necessary to immediately reduce the heating temperature, otherwise cracks will appear on the back side of the product. The product is considered dried if a ringing sound is heard when you tap it with your finger. If the sound is dull, then the product inside is still damp and the drying process can be continued.

5. If the product is ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool. Then glue it to the cardboard circle.

Salt dough is a soft, flexible and convenient material for making crafts. Children really enjoy modeling with dough, as it is much easier to work with than plasticine. Let's look at how to prepare it and what crafts you can make with salt dough with your child.

Dough recipes

Prepare salty dough easy for crafts. There are several recipes for preparing the mixture. Let's take a look at a few. Try each one and choose the one that is most convenient for you. You just need to keep the proportions correctly.

1. 500 g of premium flour must be mixed with 200 g of fine flour table salt. Then pour 200 ml of cold water into this mixture. Then you need to mix everything thoroughly. The material is ready, you can start making crafts on the theme “Autumn” from salt dough.

2. Pour a glass of fine salt into a bowl and add half a glass hot water. Having dissolved the salt in the water, gradually add a glass of flour in small portions. Mix everything thoroughly so that no lumps form. At the end, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil. When the mixture stops sticking to your hands, you need to put it in a bag and put it in a cool place for a couple of hours.

3. Add 500 g of flour to 200 ml of water and mix thoroughly. Then pour in 2 cups of PVA glue. After kneading, you will get a stable mass, from which crafts on the theme “Autumn” made from salt dough will be stored for a long time, they can be tinted and painted.

How to dry crafts?

After the craft is made, it needs to be dried. If you just leave it at room temperature, it will not harden completely. There will be wet dough inside; over time, the product will become deformed and “float.” Yes, and you can’t paint such a craft.

In order for the product to become durable, it needs to be thoroughly dried throughout its entire thickness. To do this, you can use the oven. Drying time depends on the size of the “Autumn”-themed salt dough craft. If the dough is thin, then half an hour will be enough at a temperature of 100 degrees. If the product is thick and large, then you need to increase the time to an hour.

Salt dough hedgehog

To make such a hedgehog, you will also need a pine cone, which will act as thorns. First, as in working with plasticine, you need to roll a round ball, from which the animal’s face is made by stretching. Roll a small piece into a ball and glue it to the place of the nose. The eyes are made by piercing holes with a sharp object. You can use a plasticine stack or just a pencil.

Then you need to roll out paws from four identical pieces. Assembling the hedgehog begins. The head clings to the bump from the front by pressing, and 4 paws from below. You can attach separately molded leaves or an apple to the hedgehog’s “spines.”

Another hedgehog

This salt dough version of the hedgehog is the easiest. It can be done with three-year-old children. The animal's muzzle is pulled out from the rolled ball. The eyes and nose can be molded separately, or painted with black paint.

Hedgehog needles are made from small noodles, which are simply stuck into the upper part of the body. That's it, the hedgehog is ready!

Autumn vegetables

It is very easy to sculpt vegetables from salt dough. Before sculpting, you definitely need to have a conversation with your child, remember what vegetables he knows, where they grow, what color. Consider either the vegetables themselves or their image in the pictures.

It is also advisable to repeat what shape these vegetables are and how best to sculpt them. Then the sculpting process itself begins. Turnips and beets are molded from a large ball by pulling the tail-spine down the center. If you wish, you can mold the tops separately and attach them together in a bunch on the flat side.

Parsley root and carrots are sculpted using the “sausage” method, then one side of the product is made thinner. Several branches are inserted into the middle from above.

The tomato is also made from a round piece. You need to attach a tail in the center at the top. The cucumber is rolled out into a “sausage”, rounding the ends.

After drying, the vegetables are painted.

Mushrooms

You can make mushrooms from salt dough as an autumn craft. First, you need to consider with your child what shape they come in. There are regular ones with a round and even cap. These are boletus, boletus, honey mushrooms, and boletus. For older children, you can suggest trying to make chanterelles or a colorful fly agaric.

After the mushrooms are ready and thoroughly dried, they need to be painted. To make the mushrooms bright and shiny, ready product coated with acrylic varnish.

Painting of products

There are two ways to color salt dough. After sculpting and drying, the finished product is simply painted with acrylic paints or simple gouache. With preschool children, this method is the best.

If you want to make interesting crafts to decorate your premises, you can buy food coloring and add it at the stage of kneading the dough. Then the color of the dough will be uniform, and the decor item will be bright.

It is easy to work with salt dough, since its structure is plastic and soft. Imagine and create for your own pleasure with the kids!

Good afternoon, today I continue my series of articles dedicated to autumn crafts. In this article I want to highlight non-standard crafts on the theme of autumn. And at the end of this article I will give another package of links to our articles on the topic AUTUMN and crafts FROM NATURAL MATERIAL.

Autumn craft idea #1

Salt dough mosaic.

Mosaic pieces are like a construction set. You can lay out any objects from them. Including autumn paintings.

DIY salt dough mosaic recipe.

1 glass of salt (finely ground). 1 glass of flour. Mix and add water (pour the dumplings into the center of the slide, gradually stirring). We achieve a thick, tight consistency (as for rolling out dumplings).

Divide the dough into portions. Add food coloring to each lump (dilute powdered coloring in a teaspoon with water and mix into the dough). We get several multi-colored lumps of dough.

We wrap each colored lump tightly (without air) in a plastic bag or cling film. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Take it out of the refrigerator and roll each flat cake into a layer 1-2 cm thick (more is possible). Cut into cubes, diamonds, rectangles, triangles. And we dry it (you can do it in the oven, you can do it in the sun, or just under the bed).

And we get a mosaic that can be easily glued using PVA glue or hot glue from a gun.

After completing the work, the entire mosaic picture can (and even should) be sprayed regular VARNISH FOR HAIR. And the colors will become bright, richness of color and a slight shine will appear.

The gaps between the mosaics can be filled with mortar- for example, dilute plaster with water and spread it on the mosaic, so that the liquid plaster is poured into all the cracks between the parts. And immediately, while the plaster has dried, wipe the entire surface of the mosaic with a damp cloth, clean the places where the plaster got on the drawing itself.

For this purpose, gypsum plaster from the store or mortar for sealing joints when laying bathroom tiles are suitable.

The background for the mosaic can be a canvas (or a piece of plywood) filled with a background of oil paint. Place a salt dough mosaic in the shape of a maple leaf on top of the oil painting (attach it to a hot glue gun). Dilute the gypsum solution to the consistency of sour cream, add food coloring (yellow or red) to it so that the color of the solution matches the shades of our mosaic. And carefully apply the solution to the mosaic with a thick brush, immediately wiping the surface, clearing the plaster at the top of the picture. In one hand there is a brush, in the other hand there is a cloth for grouting plaster.

After the plaster seams have dried, we cover the painting with HAIRSPray so that the color becomes bright again and the same shine appears on the mosaic as on the oil background of our autumn painting.

Other material

for autumn crafts using mosaic technique

Autumn mosaic made of ceramic chipped tiles.

You can use ceramic tiles with marbled patterns. Chop it with special tongs (you need to pinch off pieces of tile under a towel so that the fragments do not fly around the room or hurt your eyes). That is, you need the tile itself to be inside the bowl, which you covered with a towel, put your hands under the fabric and there, quietly, blindly, by touch, bite off the fragments with wire cutters). Before doing this, you can hit the tile a couple of times with a hammer (also under a towel), and then bite off the fragments with wire cutters.

Autumn mosaic made from eggshells.

We cook eggs in food coloring - just like for Easter. We clean the colored shells and lay out a picture of an autumn landscape.

Autumn mosaic from a broken glass vase, malachite.

It’s very good if you use a broken VASE, with beautiful iridescent sides - where green color turns into yellow, blue, red (there are such vases). And if you break it and pluck it into pieces with tongs, you can fold it like this Maple Leaf(as in the photo below).

Autumn mosaic made of plastic kitchen boards.

Nowadays there are a lot of kitchen cutting boards made of plastic on sale. You can buy a red board, yellow, green. And either cut the pieces with a jigsaw (first long strips), and then use wire cutters to bite these strips into fragments different forms. And you will get a lot good stuff for a mosaic craft in an autumn theme. Everything is simple and cheap with your own hands.

Autumn mosaic craft made from bottle glass.

Here in the photo below is an idea for crafts in the form autumn leaves from cement mortar and bottle glass. We break the bottle with a hammer - and under a towel (so that the fragments do not fly away) we bite off pieces of glass with wire cutters. We take a sheet of tin and bend it in a semicircle (we fix this bend with wire wrapping). Apply thick cement mortar in an even layer. We trim the borders of the cement cake so that it resembles a leaf in shape. And until the cement sets, we press pieces of glass into it with the side that is convex and does not contain sharp corners. We wipe the surface of the glass with a cloth, clearing it of any cement mortar that has fallen into it. Waiting for it to dry.

You can use smooth glass (not bottle glass) to simply cut it with a glass cutter into even strips, which you can then prick into diamond shapes with tongs. From rhombuses of the same size, you can lay out a pattern like the one in the photo below.

These are the ideas from autumn craft package No. 1.

Now let's move on to the second set of ideas.

Autumn craft idea No. 2

Autumn crafts made from felt.

Colored felt has already won a place in the hearts of not only adult needlewomen, but also small children. Now it’s not just mommies who make felt crafts. maternity leave. Quite often the school group “Skillful Hands” teaches children the basics of sewing using felt toys.

The simplest autumn craft made from felt is to cut out the outlines of leaves and tie them to a garland or curtain.

You can buy a set of colored felt by ordering it online (cheaper from China, on the AliExpress website - photo below). Or buy in separate sheets in craft stores - but this is already more expensive... I recently asked the price in a store - one sheet of 30 by 30 cm costs the same as three packs of ice cream. It's cheaper in China.

The most simple crafts from felt - this means cutting out the outlines of a leaf and using simple stitches, sewing such a leaf to a background canvas, draped in a hoop.

Or you can build a floral boutonniere like this from leaves (photo below) - you can fasten layers of autumn leaves from felt with THREAD or GLUE from a glue gun. If you attach a pin on the back side, we will get an elegant brooch for your autumn coat or hats.

And here’s another – in the photo below – an idea for a beautiful autumn craft made from felt – a whole felt painting made with your own hands. Leaves, a tree branch and a cute fox are cut from felt fabric. We take a picture frame and cover its bottom with fabric (or wallpaper background). We sew or glue a tree branch and a rope on which felt flags with the letters “AUTUMN” will hang. Then we sew a fox (or an owl, as an option) - from the remnants of the fabric from the fox we cut leaves, from another felt, also of autumn flowers, we cut more different leaves. Using a glue gun, we attach everything in a chaotic manner to the lower frame of the picture. We attach the sleeping fox with glue or thread.

A felt fox can be completely different. Here are several pattern options to choose from.

You can cut a donut ring from felt (or other fabric). Fill it with padding polyester to make the donut-wreath plump. And decorate it with felt leaves. Let's hang a mushroom, or an owlet, or a squirrel.

The ring base for the wreath can be cut from regular corrugated cardboard - from an old TV box or a large family pizza. And using a glue gun or thread, sew felt leaves onto this round cardboard donut. This will also make a beautiful bright craft - autumn wreath.

And here is a masterpiece wreath made from felt with your own hands. The owls are simply wonderful - all covered in sequins.

The base for the wreath can be purchased at the store - they sell foam rings for craft wreaths. Then you need to wrap it with threads (as in the photo below). Tie a twig to a wreath and place a bird on it (birds made from feathers are sold in home decor stores). And roll up autumn roses from felt.

Here is a simple master class on how to create a felt rose with your own hands. Cut out a spiral in the shape of a snail. And we begin to twist the rose, fixing the twist with threads in the place where we hold the rosebud with our fingers.

And if the felt spiral has uneven edges - in the form of petals, then we will get a rose with round petals. By changing the shape of the edge of the spiral, we will obtain new shapes of felt flowers. For example, if the edges of the spiral are cut into fringes (scars), then we will get an aster flower.

You will find more ideas about flower crafts in my article. Many techniques for making paper flowers are suitable for DIY flower crafts made from felt (felt is the same paper, only a little thicker and softer).

Craft idea #3

Autumn wreaths.

Autumn crafts such as wreaths made from natural materials look very beautiful. Especially if this material is painted in autumn colors - yellow, red, orange, ocher. Ordinary pine cones bloom with all the colors of autumn - and it seems that the wreath is made of autumn flowers. A very simple craft.

Cut out a ring from packaging cardboard. We paint the cones collected in the forest with gouache and spray them with hairspray so that the paint shines and sticks to the cones (does not stain your hands). Now we take a glue gun and attach our pine cones to a cardboard ring as the base for the wreath. We get a non-standard autumn craft that you wouldn’t be ashamed to take to a competition.

You can twist an autumn wreath from willow twigs. Cut willow twigs must be kept in water so that they retain their flexibility. I have already described how to twist them into a wreath in a separate article. On such a willow ring you can attach physalis flowers-boxes, clusters of bright rowan berries, and beautiful red leaves (aspen has very dense red shiny leaves). To prevent our wreath from withering over time, you can dip all the elements - both the leaves and fruits of physalis and rowan - in melted paraffin from a candle. The waxy texture will seal all the juices of the plant and preserve their color and juiciness for several years.

In autumn wreath crafts, grass panicles, velvety white sage leaves, and rose hips look very beautiful.

Can be done autumn composition not in the form of a wreath, but as a bouquet of leaves and herbs. Here in the photo below we see an example of such an autumn craft.

  • We stuff birch logs onto a wide board.
  • WITH reverse side chock on nails bent in the letter G, we fasten a piece of iron mesh-chain-link.
  • And onto this mesh we attach bunches of leaves and herbs with pieces of thin wire or threads.
  • On the same metal mesh we attach a wide ribbon of dense fabric - burlap or tarpaulin.

We tie a bow and hang this autumn craft on the door or facade of the house. It looks very elegant and beautiful.

Autumn paper wreaths

with your own hands.

You can implement the same wreath ideas from ordinary colored paper. Gather a group of children - give them scissors and let them cut out the outlines of autumn leaves you drew along the contour. When a large pile of paper foliage grows on the table, you can start assembling the wreath. Yet again cut out the base ring for the wreath from packaging cardboard and attach our leaves to drops of glue in an elegant, colorful, chaotic order.

You can cut out leaves from cardboard and apply a stamped design on them. This is already more difficult - you need to use a smooth thin object - using pressure - to apply veins to cardboard leaves. A non-writing ballpoint pen is suitable as a tool.

You can choose interesting color schemes for your fall craft - it doesn't have to be a yellow-red-orange cloud of foliage. You can choose silver, burgundy, purple, bronze shades - in a colder color scheme(as in the photo below).

You can also decorate a paper wreath with roses twisted from a paper snail spiral - according to the same principle as we made roses from felt in the photo above in the same article. And you can also make roses according to any other paper technicians. This site has a separate article about all the techniques for creating roses with your own hands -

Package of ideas No. 4

Autumn paper crafts

Using the QUILLING technique.

Here in the photo below we see the autumn wreath again. It is made from twisted paper modules. Each element of this flower is a twisted strip of paper. Round paper rolls are given any shape - oval, teardrop-shaped, triangular - and whole bouquets of autumn flowers are made from these different shapes.

Here is a beautiful lace craft using the quilling technique - an autumn oak leaf with acorns also made from rolled paper.

As a beginner craftsman, you can make a small autumn card using the quilling technique.

Making a large quilled maple leaf with your own hands is painstaking work.

You will first need to draw (or print out) a template of the veins of the maple leaf. Then lay out the long ones paper strips along each vein. Each strip goes along the selected vein - it reaches the edge of the vein (a pin is stuck in this place) - the strip goes around the pin, bends over it and sticks to itself - a double strip is obtained. And this is repeated with each vein of the future leaf. And then each compartment is filled with shaped twist modules.

As the compartments fill with paper rolls, the pins can be removed. And stick it in the place where we want to press the glue-coated twist so that its glue side is pressed against the wall of the vein.

You can collect a whole autumn bouquet from autumn leaves using the quilling technique, made with your own hands.

Package of ideas No. 5

Pictures on leaves.

(Master Class).

But here is an idea that I like because it has a huge variety of ideas for implementation. Here we see an amazing work - an owl painted on an ordinary autumn leaf. The artist’s painstaking work results in a beautiful autumn craft.

Even if you are not a very great artist, you can still make such interesting works - paintings on leaves, even a child can do it. It depends on what to draw. All children can draw eyes and a nose. All that remains is to show him how to make brush strokes - so that they look like feathers.

You can turn one single autumn leaf into an amazing autumn craft with your own hands.

Here are a few simple ideas how to decorate leaves with paints - for beginning artists... An oak leaf can become a peacock's feather. Simple drawing. Nothing complicated - you just need to first think about how you will combine the colors - you can use blue, turquoise, green and yellow - or choose a different color scheme for the peacock feather - shades - pink, purple and purple.

You don't have to know how to draw to turn a maple leaf into a painting. Butterflies are a simple symmetry of the wing. You can simply knead a bright spiral of rich colors.

Or, of course, you can dare and take a swing at a picture with a character (since there is now a fashion for owls, you can paint them in different types and angles. It is not necessary to draw an owl as in the photograph - you can have cartoon owls. The main thing is to scatter the feathers in different directions - with a brush, make such strokes in a circle from the head, and strokes in a circle from each eye - you will get a disheveled owlet. All other parts of the owl that are difficult for you to draw the plumage can be hidden in a hollow and wrapped in a scarf. Cunning and simple. Anyone can make this craft with their own hands.. And you will feel how interesting it is. And how nice it is to show this work to friends. Feel like an artist of a new magical reality.

Where to get ideas from. There are a lot of ideas around us. They are on social networks in communities of owl lovers, or communities of gouache paintings... Or you can find a picture in your child’s children’s book. This will serve as an idea for painting an autumn leaf.

For example, you found this owl.

Take a maple leaf. And a blank sheet of paper. Trace the maple leaf on paper with a pencil. We cut out the outlined silhouette - a hole in the shape of a maple leaf remains on the sheet. We attach this template with a hole to our picture with paper clips. And we get a ready-made template for a future craft, a painting on an autumn leaf.

Now all that remains is to take gouache, and step by step, with your own hands, transfer this picture onto a maple leaf. When everything is dry, spray the craft with HAIR SPRAY (to make the colors brighter and the sheet to sparkle with rich color).

And then, in order to preserve the painting for a long time, we dip the sheet into melted paraffin or candle wax. We quickly dip it in and quickly take it out by the tail and hang it on a thread to dry. We get a craft-picture that does not wither or fade over the years.

Package of ideas No. 6

Crafts-paintings

from leaves, herbs and flowers.

From herbs and flowers you can lay out beautiful crafts. The main thing is to prepare the picture in advance - draw the outline of the future landscape with a pencil (with faint lines) on a sheet of paper. Then use light watercolors to paint the sky, the reflections of the water reflecting this sky. Then place bridges cut from long, wide leaves in the right place. And begin to painstakingly lay out the wooded hills - twig by twig. And then at the very end lay out the foreground of the picture - tall grasses and flowers to the left and right of the bridge line. Beautiful picturesque craft-picture. But it requires a lot of material.

A wooded hill is a whole heap of dried grass stems in the form of twigs. In order for the density of the forest to be lush, you need to first sketch the background of these hills with green watercolors, then you don’t need to lay the green stems so densely.

You can make a picture of flowers and leaves where there is no watercolor - the entire picture, both the background of the sky and the background of the earth, is made of plant materials - as in the photo below. A simple DIY autumn craft.

You can choose colored cardboard as a canvas for a painting - for example of blue color as in the photo below. Then the blue cardboard itself will be a ready-made background for the sky and highlights on the water (as in the photo below).

When planning a leaf landscape painting, take care of the plans. Divide the picture into the third plan (horizon, sky, distant meadows) - background (hill, group of birch trees) - foreground (line of tall grasses and flowers).

A landscape painting of leaves looks very interesting if there is a PERSPECTIVE - an element that gradually decreases - goes into the distance. So in the craft below we see beds with flowering pumpkins or zucchini. The lines of the beds in the distance are a little thinner, and the flowers are a little smaller - than the same lines and flowers in the front of the picture.

Leaf paintings do not have to depict a landscape. It's just that landscape drawing is the easiest.

You can put together a whole still life from natural materials and scissors. The main thing is to first draw a sketch with a pencil. And then fill out this sketch template like a mosaic natural material. Using scissors, cut the leaves and stems into the shapes we need.

Do-it-yourself paintings from natural materials depicting insects look beautiful. Parts of herbs often resemble the legs or wings of an insect in their structure. Therefore, it is easy to find in nature elements similar in shape to parts of beetles, dragonflies, etc.

You can also create paintings depicting people or their things from dry leaves and herbs. Delicate canvases with ladies or girls in hats and dresses with delicate lace made of flower petals. You can twist out paper napkin silhouette of a lacy white umbrella and fill it with a scattering of press-dried flowers. Or you can use dried flower petals to make a girl’s dress and hat.

You can arm yourself with scissors and cut out clothes for the dancing couple - a dress and a tailcoat.

I also really like the works of the Ukrainian florist Tatyana Berdnik - she posts her works on the website Floristika. org. ua. We see her painting “Mom and Daughter” below. Tender fairy-tale pictures from afar happy life– where everything is always good, where there are warm smiles and clear eyes, gentle hands and tender hearts. I highly recommend visiting this site - you will fall in love with these works and want to learn this magical art.

Autumn is a great time for needlework, because it gives us so many wonderful materials: leaves, vegetables, fruits, flowers, acorns, pine cones and twigs. And how cozy a house becomes if you decorate it with yellow and purple tones. In this material you will find 6 ideas for DIY autumn crafts for adults and children with step-by-step master classes and a selection of photos for inspiration.

Idea 1. Autumn topiary

Topiary is a decorative tree that can be used to decorate a dining table, mantelpiece, or outdoor space. front door. To make it, you can use natural or artificial materials, for example: leaves, berries on twigs, acorns, cones, chestnuts, flowers, dried citrus slices, as well as felt, sisal, linen and everything that your imagination tells you. In the next slider you can see several examples of such autumn crafts.

Materials:

  1. Clay pot;
  2. Wooden stick or branch;
  3. Two polystyrene or floral foam balls;
  4. Materials for decorating the crown;
  5. Dry moss (you can replace it with sisal);
  6. Glue gun and several glue sticks;
  7. Scissors;
  8. Side cutters or pruning shears;
  9. Acrylic paints for painting the trunk, ball and pot (optional).

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut a hole in the base ball with a sharp tool for the barrel, about a third of its diameter deep. Place a drop of hot glue into the hole and insert the barrel into it.

Step 2: Insert the second ball into the pot. If the ball does not sit tightly enough in the pot, place newspaper around it. Cut a hole in the ball for the trunk, 2-3 cm deep. Insert the trunk with the crown into the hole and adjust its length. Next, drop glue into the hole of the ball, place the barrel in it and begin to fill the hole with glue, placing small pieces of paper around the barrel. This is necessary so that the hot glue does not deepen the hole too much.

Step 3: Paint the pot the color you want if you don't like the original look. IN this project the pot was painted with spray paint in a dark bronze shade from Rustoleum (sold in construction stores, for example, in Leroy Merlin).

Remember that the design of the pot should be simple and unpretentious so as not to distract attention from the crown. If necessary, paint the barrel and/or balls at this stage. It is advisable to paint the balls so that the gaps between the decorative details are invisible.

Step 4. While the paint on our workpiece is drying, sort decorative details by type and size. If you use artificial leaves, flowers and berries with a wire base, then when cutting them, leave “stems” about 2 cm long. This is necessary in order not only to glue the parts, but also to stick them into the ball - then they will hold more securely . If the “stems” do not have wire, then it is better to cut the parts “at the root”.

Step 5. Now it's time for the fun part - creating the crown. First, evenly distribute and glue the largest parts onto the ball, then the middle ones. Finally, fill in the gaps with small embellishments.

Step 6. Well, that's all, all that remains is to decorate the ball in the pot with dry moss or sisal, after treating it with glue.

Idea 2. Pumpkins made from toilet paper rolls

And here is another idea for an autumn craft on the theme of vegetables that you can make with your children - pumpkins from bushings from toilet paper. The possibilities for decorating these crafts are endless. For example, children can use colored paper, gouache or glitter, and adults - gold leaf, fabric or lace.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper or paper towel rolls;
  • Scissors;
  • Leg-split;
  • For decoration: brushes, gouache or acrylic paints, PVA glue and glitter or book pages, etc.;
  • Cinnamon sticks or sprigs (to create the core of the vegetable);
  • Burlap, felt or cardboard (for creating leaves).

Step 1. Flatten the toilet paper roll and cut into rings.

Step 2: Decorate the rings with the material you like, such as kraft paper, scrapbooking paper, fabric, ribbon or just paint them acrylic paint. You can also decorate pumpkins exactly as in this master class - with glitter and stripes of book pages.

Method 1. Using a brush, coat the outer sides of all rings with PVA glue, and then sprinkle plenty of glitter on them. Wait until the pieces dry, and then cover the glitter with a second layer of PVA glue to protect it from falling off.

Method 2. Cut thin strips of paper from book pages and glue them to the rings using PVA glue or a glue stick.

Step 3. To shape your pumpkin, pass a strand of twine through the rings, then tighten the two ends and tie a knot as shown in the photo.

Step 4. Now glue cinnamon sticks or cut branches into the center of the pumpkin.

Step 5. Hurray, your pumpkins are almost ready, all you have to do is add leaves cut from burlap, felt, cardboard or any other material you have on hand.

Using the same principle, you can make a pumpkin from rings of any material.

Idea 3. Panel of leaves

Next, we present to you an idea for crafts made from autumn leaves. Since this master class does not use hot glue or sharp objects, you can safely involve children in the work, and especially in collecting material.

An idea for an autumn craft made from natural materials that you can make with your children and use for seasonal home decoration

Materials:

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut out the wood with a jigsaw and sand the ends with sandpaper.

Step 2. Paint the board with stain and leave to dry.

Step 3. Using a marker, draw a maple leaf on the board by hand, using a template or stencil.

Step 4. Start gluing the pre-dried leaves (see how to dry them at the end of the article) like a fan, trying to place them so that their edges coincide with the outline of the picture. At the same time, you should not glue the leaves completely; let their tops be a little loose so that the panel gains some volume. Place a press of suitable size on each glued leaf for a minute.

Keep in mind that the leaves will not stick immediately, but after the glue dries they will stick well.

Step 5. To make the outlines of the design clearer, trim the leaves in some places. However, try to resort to such correction as little as possible so as not to lose the beauty of natural lines.

Step 6. Now attach the twig to your panel in place of the stem, break off the excess and glue it.

The following selection of photos presents examples of no less original autumn panels.

And finally, we suggest watching a video tutorial on how to make an autumn craft with your own hands in the form of a panel of leaves with a frame of acorns.

Idea 4. Wind chimes made from natural materials and more

The following project is an example of an interesting, but very easy to make craft from natural materials and ready-made parts, which a child can make almost independently.

Materials:

  • Two or one sticks;
  • Natural and manufactured materials for decorating threads: Pine cones, flat pebbles, acorns, wooden beads, small metal candle stands (used in this project) and anything else that comes to hand and matches the fall theme;
  • Leg-split;
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks.

Step 1. Paint some elements of the future wind chime, if necessary. In this master class, the author painted the pebbles in bright yellow and red colors.

Step 2. While the decorations are drying, tie two sticks crosswise and tie the center of the cross with twine as shown in the photo below. You can also just use one long stick or, say, a hoop.

Step 3. Cut 9 ropes of twine to the desired length with a small margin for knots, so that in the future you will have two rows on each branch and one in the middle.

Step 4: To create one row of wind chimes, take a piece of twine and begin stringing beads or other pieces onto it, passing the strings through the holes twice at a time or tying them well into knots. The stones should be additionally fixed with hot glue. In order not to make a mistake with the order, the parts should first be arranged in the desired order. By the way, it is better to place especially sonorous elements opposite each other so that their chime in the wind can be better heard.

Step 5. Tie knots at the end of each rope.

Step 6. Once each thread is completed, tie them to the branches using double knots with a drop of glue added.

Below are other examples of this unusual decoration made from pine cones, acorns and leaves.

Idea 5. Candlesticks in the shape of autumn leaves made from salt dough

Leaves can be used not only as a decorative or finishing material, but also at the same time as a template and stamp for creating crafts from any modeling mass. Take note of the idea of autumn crafts with children in the form of these cute salt dough leaves. By the way, they are not only beautiful in themselves, but can also perform a practical function, for example, you can store various decorations or light candles.

Materials:

  • Ingredients for kneading salt dough: ½ cup salt, ½ cup water, 1 cup flour;
  • Container for kneading dough;
  • Glass bowl;
  • Rolling pin;
  • Large leaves;
  • Vegetable oil;
  • Acrylic paints in yellow, red, orange and brown.

Instructions:

Step 1. The first thing to do is go for a walk with the whole family and find at least two beautiful large leaves.

Step 2. Then knead the salt dough. To do this, simply mix all the ingredients and roll out the dough to about 6mm thick (no less), so that it is not too thick, but not too brittle.

Step 3: Place your leaves on the dough and run a rolling pin over it using light pressure.

Step 4: The next step is to cut out the shape around the leaf. Use sharp knife and, of course, take this part of the work yourself.

Step 5. Remove the leaves. Invert the glass bowl and coat it with a thin layer of vegetable oil.

Step 6: Carefully lift the sheets and place them on the bowls.

Step 7. Place the bowls with the dough in the oven preheated to 250 degrees and leave them to bake for 2-3 hours.

Step 8: Remove your pieces from the oven and let them cool in the bowls for about 15 minutes. Then carefully lift the leaves and leave to cool completely.

Blanks

Step 9. Once the bowls have cooled, start painting. To do this, pour paints of each color into cups and let the children mix them themselves and paint the inside of the leaves first, and then the outside. Crafts made from salt dough are quite fragile, so you need to paint them carefully, without pressing. Wait for the paint to dry and, if desired, cover the bowls with a layer of PVA glue. It will give the craft a matte finish and make it a little stronger.

Painting the bowl

Leaf shapes may vary.

By the way, if you don’t want to bother with salt dough, then you can replace it with soft plasticine. The photo below shows an example of such a craft.

Idea 6. Felt garland

Although felt is not a natural material, crafts made from it are the most autumnal. Today we invite you to make a simple garland from felt leaves.

Materials:

  • Several sheets of felt in fall colors;
  • Leg-split;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • Thick threads with a needle;
  • Pencil.

Instructions:

Step 1: Download and print the leaf templates (see downloadable template below), then cut them out and outline them.

Step 2. Cut out the blanks.

Step 3. Sew the veins by hand using large stitches.

Step 4. Now, maintaining equal intervals, hang the leaves on the twine. To do this, wrap the tail of each leaf around the twine and secure with glue. If you wish, you can sew on the details. Woo-ala, the autumn felt garland is ready!

According to the principles of this simple master class you can create a variety of garlands with decorations in the form of acorns, pine cones, pumpkins, etc. The following selection of photos shows some examples of autumn felt garlands.

How to dry leaves and flowers

Method 1. This method is suitable if you want appliques or other non-voluminous crafts. Place leaves or flowers between the pages of the book at a distance of about 3 mm from each other and move them to other pages every day (also maintaining an interval of 3 mm). Within a week, the paper will absorb all the moisture from the plants, and you will be able to use them for creativity.

Method 2. If your craft does not involve the use of flat leaves, then you can dry them by simply collecting them in a bunch and hanging them upside down in a dry but ventilated area. At the same time, keep in mind that the leaves will lose their color completely in the sun, but will retain their color in the shade.

Method 3. This method is suitable for drying and preserving the color of leaves and cornflowers. Blot fresh, just picked leaves/cornflowers with a napkin if they are wet. Place each sheet between two layers of wax paper, and place a paper towel on top of the resulting “sandwich.” Preheat the iron and make sure the steam setting is off. Using pressure, iron the paper towel for 2-5 minutes. Turn the sandwich over and pat it again through the paper towel, then carefully remove the wax paper.

  • To prevent dried leaves and flowers from breaking, they must be dipped in a solution of water and PVA glue, diluted in a ratio of 4:1, and then left to dry.
