Of course, with the desire to learn how to do this and create beautiful, soulful things with your own hands. Crocheting, as the name of this type of needlework says, is carried out using a tool - a hook.

There are a variety of hooks: metal, wood, plastic and even ivory (I have one, a gift from my aunty knitter. Honestly, the tool is not suitable for knitting, but as a a beautiful souvenir Very much so, and also as a reason to show off your “treasures” to your girlfriends).

And hats and scarves are numbered from 2.5 to 6-7.

To start knitting and learning, a hook size 3-3.5 is suitable. And any yarn of medium thickness.

How to hold a hook.

Something else needs to be said about the position of the hook in your hands. Here everyone chooses the option that is most convenient for him/her)).

The figure below shows a method called "pencil". Simply grip the hook the way you would grip a pencil for writing.

The following picture shows the "spoon" method, in which the hook is held like a spoon while eating.

As you can see, everything is very simple.

Thread position when knitting.

Where the thread should be placed while knitting is shown in the figure below. Between the index and thumb a working area for the hook is formed. The thread going to the ball is under the middle one, ring fingers and little finger. And the little finger lightly presses the thread against the palm so that it does not dangle. The free end of the thread is 4-5 cm. More is possible. When finished, I thread this end through a large eyed needle and carefully thread it into the work.

The basic elements of crochet are chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet. Let's look at how they are done one by one.

Start of knitting. Air loop.

So, you have a hook and a ball of thread in your hands. Where to start?) Any product begins with a chain air loops. And it starts with the first air loop. We cross the thread with our fingers to form an ordinary loop and insert a hook into it, as shown in the figure.

We grab the thread with a hook and pull it into our ordinary loop.

Congratulations! You've learned how to make the first loop, and that's half the battle!)

At first, my hands will not obey you, my fingers will be tense, but this is a normal phenomenon for all novice needlewomen. With each new approach it will turn out better and better.

The second element is a single crochet.

As with any knitting technique, stitches are added at the beginning of each row. When knitting a single crochet, one chain increase is made. Therefore, the hook is inserted into the second air loop from the hook.

Insert the hook, grab the thread and pull it through the loop.

Congratulations! You have mastered single crochet! Now you need to do the same in the next loop and all other loops air chain.

This is what a row of single crochets looks like:

And this is what the sample looks like: tied by posts without crochet:

And the third important element is the double crochet.

If the row begins with a double crochet, then you need to make four lifting loops. Because the double crochet is higher than the single crochet. To make a yarn over, simply yarn over the hook. And after that, insert the hook into the 4th free loop from the hook.

Content

When you have a couple of free hours at home, you want to spend them usefully. or easy crochet - if you have the desire. Imagine wearing tailored pieces with a unique pattern that suits your body shape. When you put on a sweater or top knitted by yourself, you feel confident and relaxed. Crochet patterns are patterns that will create a complete composition of the product. Try to implement them yourself!

Crochet patterns for beginners

If you take a hook for the first time in your life, then in a couple of hours you will have openwork napkin, several petals for flowers, a Christmas tree, a pineapple, a star and other unique decorations for clothes. By spending an evening knitting, you will delight your baby with a hat, socks, a Panama hat or lace booties. In a couple of weeks it’s easy to create a blanket that is simple in design but original in the selection of threads for any weather. pay attention to melange yarn, which will create multi-color variations of knitted products. What patterns should I use?

Shells

This simple drawing, which does not require special skills, will help to achieve lightness, smoothness, volume in knitted product. By decreasing or increasing the number of columns, you will carefully narrow or expand the width of the item at your discretion. In this style, patterns are made - scale, ribbon. Use voluminous shells for warm cardigans, sweaters, pillowcase decor.

Here are the instructions for knitting “shells”:

  1. Knit chain stitches in multiples of 4. The bottom row is ready.
  2. Turn the hook to the opposite side of the chain. Skip the first three stitches and work 3 or plus n double crochets (dc) into the fourth stitch.
  3. Make a chain loop and continue in the same order until the end of the row.
  4. In shell crochet patterns there are no knit or purl stitches, because you end up with the same pattern every time.

Openwork

You are unlikely to cover all the variety of drawings in an evening. openwork patterns crochet But it's worth trying at least 1. Openwork knitting is suitable for table napkins, shawls, summer T-shirts with flowers, skirts, yokes made in an Irish pattern or in a fan style. Start any project with a chain chain. An example of openwork knitting: after step 1, repeat 2 rows of single crochets (dc), alternating them with air loops (c) for future lifting. There should be symmetry in the pattern, count each loop. Knit 3 petals: 3 tbsp. s n. in one hole, 3 in. p. (repeat 3 times).

Dense

There is nothing complicated about dense patterns. They are knitted according to similar principles, but each row comes out wavy, because it fills the previous openings. The connecting method is even simpler; there is no need to count gaps. Dense crochet is suitable for linen, tablecloth, and a warm autumn children's blanket. Patterns are made using this principle - Japanese, crocodile, spider, crow's feet. The thickness of the thread determines the number of the hook and the density of the knitted item. If you want to knit a blanket, do not forget about the embossed border, which will give the product individuality.

Mesh

Mesh patterns are suitable for napkins, summer, airy beach tops, children's evening and women's hats, and decorative tablecloths. If you choose round shape products, then you need to start with the base - a ring of air loops, and then the binding will tend to increase. In rectangular and square patterns there is row after row, pattern combinations are repeated.

Simple

For some, simple patterns are an alternation of double crochets, air, purl and knit stitches. Beginners should try basic crafts so that their hands get used to the hook. Ordinary napkins, decorative bindings, mono-patterned blankets, when combined with threads in a gradient style or using fluffy mohair, turn into a trendy product. You will be surprised at the end result, because with the help simple patterns really achieve interesting options in the colors of things.

Embossed

Raised patterns are created using many knitting techniques. It depends on the thickness of the thread, volumetric diagram knitting, the number of columns per loop. What do you want to receive? A luxurious blanket will be received for a short time, if you knit in 4 thick threads. A light, airy, textured blouse for a baby can be made from acrylic using purl and knit stitches. Use arc and zigzag techniques to create unusual knitted items.

Jacquard

Crochet jacquard patterns involve the interweaving of two or more colors, repeated in a circle. Using this principle, geometric, floral and avant-garde trend designs are obtained. In recent years, they have been at their peak knitted patterns deer, elk, Christmas trees on winter sweaters. “Lazy jacquard” includes zigzags, rectangles, circles. Any item can be easily knitted using this technique and a hook of the required size (in millimeters).

Features of the fillet knitting technique

Fillet knitting is an amazing and simple technique. It resembles the principle of embroidery. You knit a grid of empty and filled cells, from which it is composed beautiful pattern. Imitation lace helps to recreate not only ordinary, rustic napkins, but also complex ornaments and narrative canvases. To begin, try knitting a small sample that will help you imagine the scale of the desired pattern. Smaller mesh squares will create a complex pattern, and larger ones made of double, triple columns, several air loops, thick threads will create simpler lace.

Construction of knitting patterns

In order not to peer at the photograph or ready product, but to know exactly how to get such a thing, instructions with signed values are attached to each diagram, as in the photo below. Any knitting begins with casting on a chain of air loops, and then most often there are single crochets. Depending on the complexity, the patterns are repeated or alternated with other patterns. Explanation of standard symbols:

  • air loop (v.p.).
  • lifting loop (p. under.).
  • single crochet (dc)
  • a column with capes (st. with n).
  • Art. s n. in 2 doses.
  • double crochet stitch (st. 2 stitches).
  • Art. from 3 n.
  • tubercle (the lines are equal to the number of yarn overs).
  • ring of air loops.
  • several tbsp. s n. in 1 p.
  • columns with a common top.
  • the junction of the pattern.
  • half ring.

What crochet patterns are suitable for blouses and hats for girls

For crochet patterns, use whatever your imagination tells you. For summer, light products, mesh sheets, mills, and openwork shells are suitable; for warm winter blouses, use embossed, dense patterns. Collections of children's things, regardless of the pattern, are decorated with flowers and animal elements (eyes, ears, mouth), then the image looks more fun. End better with an elastic band, both hats and blouses. Several patterns in the photo below will help you navigate your choice.

Crocheting is one of the old ways of needlework among women.

The hook is a very interesting tool in itself. It would seem that just one object in a woman’s hand can create unreal patterns of any complexity, from napkins to costumes.

For most knitters, crocheting is also an antidepressant. So she sat down in a chair, took a thread and a hook and forgot about all her family and work problems for a while. And while she was a knitter, she was able to knit useful thing for yourself or family.

What can be made using crochet:

  • Hats;
  • Shawls;
  • Pano;
  • Gloves;
  • Socks;
  • Scarves;
  • Coat;
  • Wedding Dresses:
  • Evening dresses;
  • Shorts;
  • Pants and trousers;
  • Sweatshirts;
  • Blouses;
  • Swimwear;
  • Berets;
  • Bags;
  • Accessories for tablets, phones, keys and more;
  • Backpacks;
  • Toys;
  • Napkins;
  • Shawls;

This is not the entire list of products that can be made using just one hook.

Crochet techniques:

Irish knitting

It is considered one of the most beautiful and complex. Not every master can teach such a technique. Irish lace captivates and attracts the eye. Only top-class craftsmen can knit this way.

Tunisian knitting

Unusual knitting in itself. Long crochet hook with cast on loops and knitting backwards. An original way of knitting, of course, but not convenient. But there are also distinctive advantages, knitted fabric- durable, dense and does not settle.

Lace lace or Romanian

Quite a peculiar, but practical knitting.

Brugger lace

The fine work is unique and painstaking. Craftsmen in this business do not spend an hour, but sometimes spend days making a product. Due to this, it is of the highest quality.

Knitting on a fork

Nowadays it is difficult to find a master who masterfully masters this type of technique. This method of knitting gives the product originality and uniqueness. After all, even masters do not make the same product in the same way. By wearing fork-knitted items in your clothes, you will become the center of attention, in the good sense of the word. Any woman will want to ask how it was made and will try to find out the name of the master so that she can subsequently order or recommend it to someone.

The main element for a crochet product is: single crochet, double crochet, double or triple crochet. Knowing these elements, you can calmly take the knitting pattern for the product and get to work. Of course, there are also such schemes that, it would seem, everything is simple, but in fact they do not work out. Then you just need to put the hook and thread aside to try to understand what goes where sequentially. Sometimes craftsmen unravel one product many times in order to translate the design into beauty. This is how it should be; a master should not do his work poorly. After all, the product crocheted, it becomes so familiar that it’s a pity and I don’t even want to sell it. And very often masters give their creations to friends so that they remember them when wearing things.

What size hooks are there:

Each manufacturing company makes its own hook sizes, but the most common ones for work are No. 2 for thin threads (floss, iris) No. 3 and No. 4 for universal and heavy items such as sweaters. There are also No. 5 and No. 6, they are mainly for rugs and thick scarves.

The most common crochet threads are: Angora, Microfiber, Wool, Acrylic. Of course, they go in relation to each other, but there are also pure ones.

Crochet products will always remain at their best, no matter how much time passes. People will always admire the beauty of unusual motifs and patterns. Any child, and not only that, will be pleased to receive a hand-knitted toy as a gift. In addition, painstaking work on the toy will make it almost priceless.

Crocheted skirts will fit perfectly into the summer mood and will not be a burden to a woman. This skirt can be worn for a business meeting or for an evening walk.

Trousers, trousers and even shorts will become an attractive dating element for a young girl. After all, having seen unusual trousers, there is unlikely to be a man who passed by indifferently and without giving a compliment. Using a crochet hook you can make unusual shawls. Don't think that shawls are out of fashion. Original schemes and skillful hands give them new life so that they have already come back into fashion among women and girls. So crocheted products will excite minds for a very long time and provide new craftsmen to this world. It’s nice for a mother or grandmother to teach her generation how to crochet.

Crochet dates back to the 16th century. It is impossible to say for certain whether it existed before. According to some versions, crocheting was found among ancient tribes, and according to others, much later. It developed as a type of embroidery, only the needle was subsequently replaced by a thin hook. For example, Irish lace from the 19th century. in appearance it is very reminiscent of 16th century Flemish lace, made with a needle.
It is known for sure that crochet has long been male occupation, for the right to which they even fought with women. It is described that initially the hooks were straight, and then a primitively curved end appeared on them, which evolved to our times.
China, Africa, South America, the USA, and Turkey became the places of early appearance of samples made by crochet from thick threads. And already in Italy in the 16th century, monks improved and added elegance to knitted elements made from cotton thread.
In Russia, crochet dates back to the 19th century. Initially, lace was made in this way, and only then other products. If in ancient times knitting was a necessity, then at that time it simply occupied the free time of women at gatherings and later turned into a real art, to which we will have a hand.

Crochet supplies

For crocheting you will need hooks, threads and auxiliary accessories:
  • marker clips so as not to lose the desired row or loop;
  • needles with a large eye for connecting parts;
  • scissors;
  • centimeter for measuring sizes and determining knitting density;
  • pins with large colored heads that will not get lost in the fabric.

Hooks

Hooks come in metal (aluminum or steel), wood, plastic, bamboo and bone. The sizes vary within the following limits: head size – 0.5-15 mm (hook sizes No. 1-6); length 125-200 mm for short and 350-450 mm for long hooks. The hook numbers often coincide with the head size (No. 2 - 2 mm), but this is only in the measurement system of the international nomenclature of standards. Therefore, I advise readers of MirSovetov to carefully study the description of the work, because if the system is different (which is especially important for foreign knitting magazines in their native language), you can make a mistake in choosing a hook for the work.
A good hook should be neither sharp nor dull, so as not to injure your fingers and not complicate the work process. It is also important that there is no mechanical damage on it. There is an addiction to the hook; sometimes working with another hook slows down and creates discomfort. In my opinion, a hook is like the magic wand in Harry Potter - everyone should have their own, or at least a familiar one, then you can be proud of your work.

Threads

Optimally, the threads for work should be one and a half to two times thinner than the hook. Thin hooks with thin threads produce delicate openwork lace patterns, thick hooks with thick threads produce large knitting and normal density. A thick hook and a thin thread will give a holey, loose structure, and a thin hook and a thick thread will give a very dense or even coarse fabric. In any case, the fabric from under the hook does not stretch well, which does it a certain honor.

For crocheting, you can choose an arbitrarily thin thread, which cannot be done with knitting needles. When crocheting, the thread consumption is much greater than when knitting. You can crochet with any thread or its like. If we talk about classic threads, then these are silk, cotton, wool, as well as wool mixture, synthetics, floss, beautiful, linen, iris, and garus. By “similarity” I mean anything that can theoretically be related.
Regular knitting yarn labels indicate tool size, thread count, care instructions, yarn composition, yardage and knitting density. The latter (knitting density) is the number of rows and loops in a 10x10 cm sample, which is of great importance when respecting the dimensions of the product. At least the number of loops should be as close as possible to that indicated in the description. If there are too many or few rows, you need to change the tool size.
It is most pleasant for me to knit with regular or mercerized cotton thread - it is elastic, shows the pattern perfectly, does not split, and is well twisted from a small amount of thin threads. You need to take into account that if you focus on the pattern, the yarn should be plain, and if you focus on colors, a melange thread or a thread with effects will do. A solid canvas will better show its qualities. The same applies to the pile: if there is openwork, then it is better to have a smooth thread, otherwise it will not be visible. If it’s a solid fabric, then a fleecy one will do. It is preferable to first determine the knitting density on a sample and then start working. It will be even more important when making a product according to your own design.
Fabric made of dc (dc – double crochet; a description of the main knots is given below):

How to learn to crochet

In my opinion, anyone can learn to crochet. A simple desire and a competent book will be quite enough for this. Crocheting itself is much easier than knitting, and the result is visible faster in time. It is important not to be afraid of rich “three-story” diagrams and kilometer-long descriptions. Actually, after you try to complete each of the nodes yourself, you will be able to cope with any scheme. It is precisely with such schemes that I would advise readers of MirSovet to begin their training. Or you can take up knitting napkins, flat ones to begin with: they have many various types loops (knots), but small in size.

I used a list of existing hook knots with pictures and verbal descriptions of the steps. With his help I knitted several openwork dresses for my daughter. After this, not a single scheme seems complicated to me.

First, I carefully analyze the pattern and then start knitting. Before this, I only knew how to do regular double crochets and strong double crochets, and throughout my childhood I made blouses for dolls.

How to read diagrams

Crochet patterns use certain symbols for each existing node. The concept of rapport is used - the number of loops of a repeating pattern in one row.
Basic knots and loops for crochet:
● or ○ or ᴑ – air loop (VP or VP). Yarn over the hook, pull out a new loop;

● – connecting loop or half-column (PP or PP). Insert the hook into the nearest sc at the base, yarn over the hook, pull through 2 loops on the hook;

▐ or ┼ – single crochet (sc). Insert the hook into the nearest sc of the base, yarn over, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook;

┼ – double single crochet (DSBN or dsbn). Insert the hook into the nearest sc of the base, yarn over, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through the 1st loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops;

│ – strong column (PS or ps). Yarn over, insert the hook into the nearest sc at the base, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through 3 loops on the hook;

┼ – double crochet (dc, dc or dc).

Yarn over, insert the hook into the nearest sc at the base, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook;

Fabric made of ssn:

╪ – double crochet stitch (ss2n, SDN or SDN).

2 yarn overs, insert the hook into the nearest sc at the base, pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook;

╪ – double crochet stitch (ss3n).

Compared to the previous one, it has one more last action.
In addition, there are complex decorative knots - crocheting elements:
  • a loop knitted from the front thread of the base loop;

  • a loop knitted from the back thread of the base loop;

  • long loops. Place the hook anywhere on the base, yarn over, pull the loop to the level of knitting, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook;

  • embossed double crochet stitch (RLSN or RLSN). The point is that the loop is pulled not through the head of the post, but through the post itself, by placing a hook behind it in front of the canvas;

  • embossed purl double crochet (RISN or risn). The bottom line is that the loop is pulled not through the head of the post, but through the post itself, placing a hook behind it with reverse side canvases;

  • lush column (PSh or psh). Several dc2n (or more yarn overs) are knitted from each subsequent base sc, without finishing the last strand in each of them. Thus, there are as many loops on the hook as there are stitches. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook;

  • buff (B or b). Yarn over, pull a loop, yarn over, pull a loop, yarn over, pull a loop, yarn over through 7 loops on the hook, yarn over, chain loop;

  • lump. Several ss2n (or more yarn overs) are knitted from one base loop, without finishing the last strand in each of them. Thus, there are as many loops on the hook as there are stitches. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook;

  • "popcorn" (Mon or Mon). Several ss2n (or more yarn overs) are knitted completely from one loop of the base, then the hook is inserted into the top loop of the first stitch and the one from which it was taken out, yarn over, is pulled through 2 loops on the hook;

  • "pico". Knit three chain loops, insert the hook into the original sc (or other stitch from which the ch began), pull through all the loops on the hook;

  • entwined column (OS or os). Several yarn overs (10 or more are possible), insert a hook, pull a loop through all the yarn overs;

  • inverted dc or “crawberry step”, for tying the edge of the product (hdc or hdc). Knitting from left to right, insert the hook from the back from its current position into the nearest sc of the base and pull out a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook. You get the same sc in the opposite direction;

  • elongated “broomstick” loops (VPB or vpb). Knitting from left to right, a hook is inserted into each subsequent sc of the base, a loop of the required length is pulled out and put on a knitting needle, and so on as needed. And the next row can be knitted in any way;

  • Solomon's knot. Make a long chain stitch, make the next normal size chain stitch, insert the hook under the thread going to last loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook;

  • boucle loops or fur loops (BP or BP). Insert the hook into the nearest sc of the base, throw the thread on the knitting needle, hook 2 threads under the knitting needle and pull out 2 loops, yarn over, pull through all the loops on the hook. This way the fringe remains;

  • overhead air loop (NVP or NVP, knitting over fabric). Thread under the fabric, place the hook in the desired place on the fabric, yarn over and pull out a loop, place the hook in another place, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook.

Crochet techniques:

Knitting techniques

Lifts and turns of the fabric are performed using air loops, from which either a new row begins, or they are knitted, for example, between two dcs, increasing the angle between them to the desired amount of rotation:
  • VP-PR – a gap of air loops;
  • 2 ch-pr – two gaps of air loops;
  • 2vp-pr - a gap of two air loops.

With this regular knitting There are two ways to crochet - circular and flat. In the first case, the fabric turns out to be seamless, knitting goes only in one direction forward in a circle without turning. In the second, the work occurs forward, and then the blade is turned and back - in the opposite direction. You can only knit forward and break the thread each time. Thus, the canvas does not have a reverse side.

In addition, there is also such a variety of crochet as Tunisian knitting– long crochet, like a knitting needle. In this case, the canvas does not rotate, and the rows are straight and reverse. It is made with a crochet hook with a sharp end, and the final product looks like canvas, knitted from knit or purl stitches, only it will be much thicker.
Tunisian knitting techniques:

Another direction in knitting is called Irish technique or Irish (and Brussels) lace technique, also called guipure. In this case, all the individual elements of one overall picture are knitted separately (for example, leaves, flowers, branches), and then connected into a single fabric using a special mesh. A very interesting and exciting activity: drawing is not limited to one diagram, but gives enormous freedom to the author’s imagination.
Knitting on a fork, reminiscent of a hairpin - also one of the varieties of crochet. In this way you can create beautiful specific patterns. There are universal forks (shawl staples) where the rods can be placed at different distances from each other.

Construction of knitting patterns

To create crochet patterns, there are also special computer programs that make the task easier, for example, MyCrochet. But this program does not have the entire list of existing nodes and loops. In addition, I have never seen reasonable instructions for it in Russian anywhere.
When the diagram is very long, it is presented with a banal description, in which the nodes are listed separated by commas in the required sequence. The description uses square and round brackets to combine nodes into groups. This greatly enhances the perception of the text and simplifies the description when such groups are repeated frequently. An asterisk * is also used, usually indicating the place from which the combination of nodes needs to be repeated. A comma separates nodes from each other. Along with the generally accepted nomenclature of letter designations, each description may contain specific designations only for this work.
Of course, when taking on the next product, the pattern must be knitted exactly. If something confuses you in the chosen pattern, I advise MirSovetov readers to try using inexpensive threads to make a test sample of the entire product or part of it, which you think is very complex. The fact is that there are also errors and inaccuracies in the diagrams - and this is not at all uncommon. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid: as soon as you gain a little experience, you will be able to easily find and correct them. You should always take what is ready as a basis and not be afraid to make your own amendments if necessary.

There is nothing complicated about crocheting. This can be compared to how we combine letters into syllables, and then syllables into words, and then from words we build phrases and sentences. Or have you ever tried to fold a children's construction set? Bricks different lengths, turns, climbs. Wherever you insert which double or tee, that’s where your structure will branch.
As you work, a diagram immediately emerges in your head which of the existing techniques needs to be applied. When it is clear that the work has gone in the wrong direction, it is easy to understand where to subtract and where to add so that everything falls into place.
The difficulty is to come up with the patterns yourself. But here, the more practice, the easier it becomes to think in the right direction. At the very beginning, I used excerpts of patterns that I had once knitted in my current work. Sometimes you just can’t keep up with the thought, but it has already reminded you that you can insert this piece here, and this one here. Remember how in the constructor? Here is a brick, and here is another.

Basically, knitting is easy for those who have a lot of patience. But there are also people who simply calm their nerves by scrupulously tying out every knot. And there are those for whom crocheting is a hobby or a real passion. In any case, I wish everyone who is interested to definitely try themselves in this matter. Even such a simple activity helps to create real masterpieces and works of art. After all, the elegance of crocheted openwork is in no way inferior to knitting. Don’t be upset if you don’t surprise others with your work, but you certainly
