I typed in Yandex: how to sew a hijab.

Hijab is simply a loose garment that hides a woman in such a way that not a single curve of her body is visible

from here
http://www.islam.ru/pressclub/gost/janna/

Clothing must completely cover the head and body, except for the face and hands. This means that the neck, forearms, ears and earrings placed in them must be covered. Representatives of some schools of Islamic jurisprudence argue that the feet need not be covered, but all adhere to the general point of view that the feet should be hidden.

Clothing itself should not serve as decoration, so as not to attract the attention of men to female beauty. In general, this means avoiding bright shiny colors, sparkly jewelry, and fabrics that have shiny threads woven into them. (You can wear all this at home, and the specified criteria apply only to the clothes that a woman wears when leaving the house, or when she is in the presence of a man who does not belong to the category of Mahrem relatives - close relatives with whom she is prohibited from marrying).

Clothing should be thick enough to hide the color of the skin; see-through or transparent fabrics are not acceptable in this case.

Clothing should be loose enough to hide the contours of the body: tight-fitting, body-tight clothing that emphasizes its shape is unacceptable.

Clothing should not have the smell of perfume.

Clothes should not look like men's clothing. Wardrobe items such as trousers should be feminine style, cut, etc.

It is not advisable for your clothes to make you stand out from the crowd - they should not be in such light and bright colors or flashy cuts that are sure to attract attention to you.

Added later:
I’ll supplement the topic with a quote from the topic of unusual creations

I also had the opportunity to sew a few things related to religion - Muslim clothes. Abayas, hijabs - long closed dresses-coats. In principle, they are ordinary, but there are some tailoring features - completely opaque fabric, a loose cut that does not emphasize the figure, simple lines, discreet colors and a minimum of trim so as not to attract attention. Of course, this is only for those deeply observing traditions. And then there are such abayas that I turn my head at them - peacocks “nervously smoke on the sidelines.”)))

I also sewed so-called “amirs” - such wide headbands made of elastic fabric. Muslim girls then wrap a scarf over them. It is very convenient - it holds firmly, does not slip, and hair does not get out from under it. They try to make Amirka beautiful, since part of her is visible in the forehead area. Or vice versa - simple, plain, if the scarf is bright and embroidered.

And a suit for prayer. They brought me one like this as a gift from Jordan, so I sewed it in its image and likeness. The pattern is the simplest - a floor-length skirt made of a stitched rectangle with an elastic band, and the top... how can I explain... looks like a pillowcase - it is put on the head, a hole is left unstitched for the face, the length is just below the waist. It is convenient because it can be put on in a matter of seconds - and you can quickly change clothes for prayer and open the door if someone knocks and the girl is not dressed, as required by Islam.

The beauty of the East is amazing. Despite all the closed clothing, oriental women are considered real beauties. Needless to say, this type of face and almond-shaped eyes drive men all over the world crazy.

Peculiarities

Muslim women are forbidden to wear trousers, so following religious instructions, they wear dresses, some of which are handmade and unique products.

There are several types of dresses for Muslim women. Thus, a jalabiya is an element of a wardrobe that can be worn at home or for everyday wear, and an abaya is an elegant dress intended for appearing in public places.

A special feature of the Muslim dress is its cut. He should be free, because Eastern woman should not show off her body to strange men. The sleeve length of the dress reaches the wrist. Residents of Morocco can be found in dresses with a hood, while for Muslim women living in Russia, designers create models without it.

Advantages

By wearing a closed dress, a Muslim woman tries to avoid the attention of men. However, it is the woman in the abaya that attracts the attention of Europeans. You want to look at a woman in a closed dress, because her entire image was chosen carefully and painstakingly. Abaya is always a mystery.

In addition, in the East, a woman in a closed dress protects herself from the gaze of strangers and their manifestation of interest. It is no secret that Muslims are very temperamental men and can misunderstand a woman’s revealing outfit.

Popular styles and models

Elegant

Modern elegant dresses for Muslim women are much more diverse than it might seem at first glance.

So, Long Dresses may have a barely noticeable thin belt at the waist line. At the same time, the belt is tightened loosely, only hinting at feminine curves.

Another festive model is a floor-length silk dress with long puffed sleeves. The collar of such a dress completely covers the chest, shoulders and lower part of the neck.

The style with long sleeves made of lighter fabric and a dress reminiscent of a sundress is quite popular among dresses for celebrations.

Surprisingly, the basque, which has been popular for several seasons in a row, has also appeared in Muslim clothing. The top of the dress is made of lace, which covers the bottom layer of dense fabric. The peplum is also made with lace, has an asymmetrical length and reaches the middle of the knees along the back.

Homemade

In Muslim culture, a girl can shine with her beauty only at home. The husband is the person who can watch her in open suits with a seductive neckline and open arms. When a father, son or brother appears in the house, a Muslim woman can remain in similar clothes, however, if a stranger’s man visits the house, she must cover her head and wear a closed dress.

Thus, a popular option for the home in Muslim fashion is the jalabiya, which resembles a kimono. Sleeve " bat», V-neck and embroidery along the waistline characterize this model.

Another convenient style for Muslim women is the two-piece dress. It includes a floor-length underdress with short sleeves and a small cutout in the neckline, and an upper cape, allowing you not to be caught off guard when guests suddenly visit.

There are also dresses for home prayer. This outfit bears the name from afar. The main feature of this dress is the scarf sewn to the collar. From a distance it is worn over homemade jalabiya.

Casual

Casual jalabiya and abaya have a simple cut. Most often, these models do not have prints or complex embroideries.

Thus, a popular option for an everyday dress is a model that imitates a polo shirt with its collar.

A dress with a wide collar, hood and sleeves different from the main fabric is beloved by young Muslim women. Resembling a sweatshirt, it not only does not contradict religion, but is also a fashionable wardrobe item.

Models with a yoke and slightly flared at the bottom are a basic wardrobe element for women of all ages. Women of advanced age wear it without additional jewelry, and girls gird it with thin straps and put it on top. fashionable jackets and blazers.

Wedding

An eastern wedding involves two options. In the first case, the bride celebrates this special occasion with exclusively female guests, and the groom - only with men. A girl at such a wedding can buy herself an ordinary European dress with an open bodice and shoulders. Of course, the dress model should not be ultra-short or too open, but otherwise there are no restrictions.

The second option for a wedding is a joint celebration. Traditionally, on this day people gather a large number of guests, so the bride should look modest and closed. The hair must be covered with a scarf, and the sleeves must reach the wrist; translucent fabrics are also prohibited.

Many Muslim women buy a European dress and wear white knee-length socks underneath that cover their body. This outfit is more affordable in cost, because the high cost of hand-sewn Muslim dresses has long been known.

Of course, it is traditional outfits that are the most luxurious and delicate. They are embroidered with ornaments symbolizing the love, fertility, purity and good character of the bride.

A modern Muslim dress is considered to be a model with a corset bodice and full skirt. The top of the dress is made of thick fabric and decorated with delicate lace. This dress covers the arms, shoulders and neck, complemented by a stand-up collar.

More classic model wedding dress presented in a straight cut. Noble silk is present on the sleeves and hem, while the top of the dress is decorated with embroidery, lace or thematic ornaments.

A young girl covers her head with a hijab that matches her dress. The hijab can also be used in conjunction with a veil of any length and shape.

Length

Abayas and jalabiyas are always performed to the floor. These dresses cover the ankles. It is this length that corresponds to religious canons and does not contradict social rules Muslims

In Muslim fashion, along with dresses, there are also suits. The tunic + trousers set is a practical wardrobe item. The tunic, in this case, reaches the knees or ankles. Such costumes different countries have different names, for example, in Morocco the suit is called jabador, and in India - salwar kameer.

Current colors and prints

If the style of a Muslim dress can be called modest, then oriental beauties do not limit themselves when it comes to flowers. It is the rich shades of colors that allow Muslim women not to get lost in the crowd, to be feminine and attractive.

The history of Muslim dress indicates that initially all models were black. What prevented Muslim women from dressing brightly? Numerous wars and the gathering of unworthy men on the streets obliged a woman to dress in black and become invisible in the dark alleys of dangerous streets. Men, on the other hand, dressed in white and courageously protected their women. In most countries, the time of war is a thing of the past, but the fashion for black casual dresses remains, although now they can hardly be called faceless.

In addition to the black color present in everyday clothes, in the new collections you can see stylish denim dresses, shades of muted pink and quiet burgundy. Light shades are also selected color scheme for dresses.

Formal models allow a woman to reflect her character, charisma and extraordinary beauty in color. Calmness and harmony of soul can be observed in the girls dressed in elegant dresses of heavenly and emerald shades. Plum and dark blue colors distinguish bright natures, and a soft pink hue speaks of the girl’s youth.

You won’t see trendy youth prints on Muslim dresses, but Eastern fashion has not lost anything from this. Designers develop dresses with classic patterns and patterns that have stood the test of time and fashion. Muslim models are decorated with graceful curves of flowers, fancy semicircular patterns, and abstractions. On youth models you can also see inscriptions on English language, however, they have a deep meaning, they talk about God and the world.

Fabrics and textures

Muslim women treat the fabric of their future dress with trepidation. Firstly, the fabric should not be see-through. Before buying a model, wise Muslim women, taught by the bitter experience of unsuccessful acquisitions, advise examining the fabric through the light of a lamp. If the hand shines through the material in the light, the same will happen to the legs of Muslim women on a sunny day.

Secondly, the fabric of the dress should be dense enough and hold its shape well. Only then will the dress not hug the body when moving.

Among the materials oriental beauties Medium and high density cotton, staple, wool, and thick linen are valued. Naturalness plays an important role for Muslim dresses, because a closed model will be worn not only in cool weather, but also on hot days.

Synthetics are also included in Muslim outfits, because they make the outfit more affordable in cost and wear-resistant. Oil knitwear, consisting of polyester, is loved by women for its excellent drape and softness, however, when making a hem from this fabric, one should not forget about the petticoat.

The denim fashion has been around for quite some time. Denim dresses are increasingly appearing in Muslim collections and captivating with their stylish simplicity, naturalness and comfort. These models are perfect for cool weather if they are made of dense material. In summer, dresses made of thin denim are simply irreplaceable in the life of a young Muslim woman; they perfectly absorb moisture and allow the skin to breathe.

Invoices elegant dresses reveal the full spectrum of beauty of fabrics. The softness of velvet and the beauty of printed patterns are used here.

What to wear with

Muslim women living in European countries are increasingly complementing jalabiyas and abayas with stylish details from regular stores. This is due to good accessibility in terms of prices and availability, as well as the desire to keep up with current fashion trends.

So, girls throw lace cardigans and long sleeveless jackets over fitted dresses. Blazers and stylish jackets occupy a special place in the wardrobe, because they can update any dress.

Of course, the main ally of the dress is the headscarf that covers the head of a Muslim woman. Many options for covering the head have turned this detail into fashion trend, which is increasingly appearing in European collections. In addition to the headscarf, the girl covers her hair with a boni, a traditional Muslim cap.

Reading the canonical prayer for the entire Islamic world - namaz - requires purity of thoughts, body and place for prayer. To comply with all these conditions, you will need special clothing that will comply with Islamic traditions and canons. Dresses for prayer, the pattern of which is given in today's lesson, can be sewn from fabrics with geometric or floral patterns, as well as from plain colored fabrics. As a rule, these loose dresses are made in one size from natural black breathable fabric, so we recommend choosing this color of material;) Thanks to the loose cut, the dress does not restrict movement, it can be worn over regular clothes even on hot days.

The choice of fabric for a summer Muslim dress is extremely important, because girls and women often have to go outside under scorching sun. When it’s hot outside, you want to put on light, breathable and comfortable clothes more than ever!

As a rule, when buying clothes for the summer, we pay attention to the model of the product and the thickness of the fabric. It is extremely important that the canvas is thin, but dense and not translucent. Then it turns out that the fabric seems to be thin, but when going outside it strongly “floats” the skin, sticks to the body and does not breathe at all. To protect you from mistakes, we will list the ones suitable for summer dress canvases

Cotton fabric

Cotton is the most affordable and most common material for making summer clothing. Since it is made from natural textile fibers, the fabric is highly breathable, but at the same time quite dense and not see-through. A huge number of fabrics are made from cotton. We recommend paying attention to:

  • twill;
  • flannel;
  • calico;
  • chintz;
  • matting;
  • satin;
  • batiste;
  • chiffon;
  • calico.

Usually, cotton fabrics They are quite strong and wear-resistant (cambric is an exception on our list), have good hygienic properties and retain color well. Quite hygroscopic.

Linen fabric

Linen fibers are extracted from stems and leaves; this fabric is considered one of the most ancient. Since the production of linen threads is a much more labor-intensive process than cotton threads, linen fabric is more expensive.

Linen fabric is quite thin (be sure to check that the fabric is not see-through!), wrinkles a lot and is not particularly wear-resistant, but is remarkably breathable. Products made from such fabric are not hot at all, even on a hot summer day. To make the finished dress less likely to wrinkle during wear, give preference to a mixed fabric: linen + cotton.

Linen absorbs moisture well and dries quickly (this is another advantage over cotton).

Silk fabric

Silk is perhaps the most expensive and luxurious natural fabric. This is the only natural fabric that can adapt to temperature environment and maintain a comfortable microclimate for humans inside.

Indeed, high-quality silk fabric has a very high thread density (from 130 to 280 per square centimeter!). The denser the silk, the longer the dress made from it will last. Synthetic fiber is woven into modern silk threads to make them more resistant to bruising. This material does not overheat, removes moisture well and dries instantly.

Silk has many more advantages than cotton and linen combined:

  • controls body temperature (does not soar in summer and does not get cold in winter);
  • is the only natural hypoallergenic material (does not cause allergic reactions);
  • at proper care quite durable;
  • resistant to bacteria;
  • breathes well and does not accumulate static electricity.

It’s not for nothing that in the summer many Muslim women use silk headscarves and scarves as a hijab!

How to sew a dress for prayer: making patterns

Having selected the material for sewing the product, we proceed directly to working on it. We offer you three universal models of dresses for prayer, which are sewn simply and do not require the creation of a complex pattern.

Dress for prayer "bat"

The first model, thanks to its wide sleeves, is popularly referred to as the “bat”. Creating a pattern is not difficult even for a novice seamstress! The fold of the fabric is located at the top. Don't forget about the direction of the thread!

Straight dress

The second version of sewing a dress is even simpler than the first! In this case, we will need to additionally sew two sleeves to match the fabric or at your discretion. The width of the dress can also vary at your discretion. The canvas size we offer is suitable for standard size chart. Don’t be afraid to make the dress wider, because it can be sewn in at any stage of production, but finishing the fabric will be much more difficult.

How straight dresses for prayer are modeled is shown in our pattern.

Inverted trapezoid

The third option is a little more unusual, but it is still as easy to build as the previous two. If you select flowing fabric for this model, decorate the collar or sleeves with beads and rhinestones, you will get a finished Evening Dress! Choose a modest color and material and it will be a great everyday outfit.

How to sew a dress for prayer: step-by-step video master class

To show you clearly how to sew a product yourself, we offer you a detailed video tutorial in three parts.

Stage one

Stage two

Stage three

Today I decided to please my mother and sew her a very necessary item for prayer. Surely you know that you must enter a mosque and all similar places with your head covered. The Muslim headdress has its own subtleties, so if you are interested in how to sew a Muslim hijab scarf with your own hands, welcome to my master class.

For sewing, I will use an overlocker, but if it is not available, you can easily replace it with an elastic stitch for knitwear on a regular stitching sewing machine.

In order to sew a Muslim hijab headscarf I needed

  • fabric elastic knitwear 20 cm.
  • thread in color - 3 spools
  • underwear elastic 10 cm.
  • needles for sewing machine for sewing knitwear or stretch fabrics No. 80

Muslim headscarf hijab pattern

1. I immediately create a pattern for the scarf on the fabric; it consists of two patterns. The first pattern is cut on the fold of the fabric - 1 piece. The second circle with a radius of 14 cm, also 1 piece. Calculations are given in centimeters, with seam allowances.

How to sew a Muslim hijab scarf with your own hands step by step

2. I bend the tails of the pattern from the wrong side as shown in the photo, rounding the corners. I stitch on the machine in places where there are pins.

3. I turn it inside out. These are ties for the future scarf.

4. From the wrong side I fasten the circle and the top of the scarf. To do this, I find the middle of the parts and fix them. In simple words- you need points A and B to converge in the middle of the circle at the top.

I sew on an overlocker; if the length is not enough, you can stretch the knitwear a little.

This is what should happen.

5. Now you need to sew a 3 cm long piece, which is pinned in the photo.

6. I form a hem along the bottom of the scarf. To do this, I bend the fabric 2 cm inward. I sew it on a machine using a flat seam. If there is no such function on sewing machine, you can first process the cut with a zigzag, then bend it and sew it through, slightly short of the ties.

7. On the back of the scarf, I do the same hem, but I bend the fabric 3 cm inward. I sew with a flat seam.

8. At the back of the scarf, from the wrong side, I insert an elastic band with a pin into the hem seam.

9. I fix the elastic band inside with pins. I tighten the elastic until the distance is reduced to 6 cm. I sew the elastic to the scarf on both sides, as shown in the photo.

10. The scarf is almost ready, all that remains is to decorate it. To do this, I take the remaining fabric - a piece of 20 * 47 cm.

I twist it into a rope

11. I sew the ends of the harness using an overlocker.
