Coats, ponchos, cardigans

A cardigan is an extremely necessary item for women in a modern wardrobe. There may even be several cardigans, because they come in completely different style and can have different purposes. There are warm, detailed models designed to protect the owner from the cold. There are strict and elegant ones that can be worn both in a public place and at a social event. And there are also such fashionable cardigans, the practical value of which is small, because they, frivolous, extravagant, have the task of decorating leisure time and making an impression.

The fashion for modern knitting organically includes both authoritative traditions and their latest interpretation. So, for example, Aran braids are not only present in many models of cardigans, but are also the basis of the latest fashion. Unusual and beautiful models Lalo-style cardigans with braids illustrate this interpenetration.

A cardigan is a large, showy item, so knitters want it to fit perfectly on the figure, look beautiful and have an interesting texture. It is most convenient to knit a cardigan with knitting needles on a fishing line, since you can cast on many loops at once to knit large parts, for example, a back or a shawl collar.

A knitted cardigan is not necessarily a product with buttons, so even beginner knitters who find it difficult to make stitches can take it on. The product can be made with folded hems on the belt, and knitting it with knitting needles is much easier than fiddling with loops. There are styles of cardigans with a single button closure using air loop, though then you won’t be able to limit yourself to just knitting needles: you’ll have to pick up a crochet hook. But tying an elementary chain by closing it in a loop is a very simple procedure.

If you have good crocheting skills, you can decorate the finished cardigan knitted with knitting needles along the edges with various elements. It’s a good idea to knit flowers and leaves that can become a decoration for a product on the collar or in the form of a brooch on the chest. Such a cardigan can even be smooth, made in garter or stocking stitch.

How to knit a beautiful cardigan with knitting needles, where to start

The most spectacular cardigan is an openwork knit. There are many knitting patterns that feature interesting textures or even look like lace. A light cardigan with such a texture will look charming and will warm you well in cool weather or on an evening walk in the summer. To make such a thing, you need to study the elements of openwork knitting: yarn overs, knit stitches and purl stitches. A warmer product can be made with knitting needles and a special pin for weaving loops. “Braids”, “ropes”, “diamonds”, “bumps” - these are the main elements that you will have to master for such a cardigan.

You also need to provide the cut details:

  • back;
  • shelves;
  • coquette;
  • collar;
  • sleeves;
  • cuffs

It is good to knit a cardigan with knitting needles in the raglan style, which involves a minimum of parts that will have to be sewn together. Combining them beautifully is also a certain art that requires the acquisition of new skills. You will have to master kettel and knitted seams (vertical and horizontal). Alternatively, you can connect the parts crochet, knitting single crochets or half-crochet stitches.

Selecting a model and knitting pattern

When starting to knit a cardigan, you need to choose a model that would fit your figure perfectly. Next you need to understand what the yarn consumption is for the product. If you don't have much yarn, it's better to knit openwork model: it is more economical. If you knit more large knitting needles, then the work can be completed faster, but the threads should also be thick enough so that the finished cardigan does not look too loose and does not lose its shape when washed.

The knitting pattern depends not only on the style, but also on the pattern. Those who know how to make complex patterns well with knitting needles should knit a sample with the selected threads in order to calculate from it how many loops will have to be cast on in width. The height of the part can be adjusted while working on the pattern or by measuring with a centimeter.

For those who are not well versed in patterns and patterns, it is advisable to choose a ready-made model with a pattern and strictly follow the recommendations for selecting yarn and knitting needles.

Selection of yarn and tools

The thread should not be thicker than the knitting needles, otherwise it will be awkward to knit. If its diameter is much smaller, the knitted fabric will lose its elasticity, which will lead to deformation of the cardigan. The thickness of the yarn is indicated on the label for the skein. With paired knitting needles it’s even simpler: a number is often stamped on their shanks, which is their diameter. But what about knitting needles on a fishing line if they have been in the household for a long time, and it is impossible to remember what was written on their label? You can use a caliper, or if you don’t have one, just pierce a piece of graph paper with a knitting needle and estimate the diameter of the resulting hole. It is convenient to simply compare the thickness of the thread and knitting needles by eye, and if they approximately coincide, then start knitting a sample of the selected pattern.

New models of cardigans for women and girls

Among the new models of cardigans, there are many samples made with knitting needles. In most cases, weave knitting is used. These are large “braids” or “ropes”, as well as their variations. Such a relief texture will make even a straight product unforgettable. There are practically no shaped tight cardigans among the newfangled designs these days. Therefore, before you start knitting a cardigan, it is worth practicing with a weaving pin.

It should be remembered that the overlap of the loops slightly narrows the resulting fabric, and the holes, on the contrary, expand. This means that you need to not be lazy to knit a large sample, for example, 20 loops for 20 or 30 rows, in order to correctly calculate the number of both for a cardigan piece.

If you calculate correctly, you will receive a beautiful product. Examples can be seen in the photographs. There are also options for very simple knitting from yarn of different colors. Eye-catching stripes make all the weather happen. Garter stitch with thick threads and large knitting needles is another way to make a cardigan interesting.

How to knit a cardigan with knitting needles - lessons for beginners

The easiest to knit is a thick cardigan made with knit stitches from multi-colored yarn. You can choose only black and white threads of the same type to create a spectacular product. The cardigan pattern needs to be drawn into strips of unequal width (like a barcode placed on its side), count how many rows there are in each of these strips, and start knitting the back and shelves. Yarn can be selected with a thickness of 4 to 5 mm. If it is thinner, then you can knit it in two threads. You can even knit a cardigan with 7 mm knitting needles, but it is important to remember that the thread should not be very thin.

Usually they start knitting parts from the bottom of the product to its top. The fronts and back are knitted straight, without decreasing stitches, right up to the place where the sleeves will be sewn in. If you don’t reduce the stitches here, you can make a cardigan with a low armhole, which is also welcome in this fashion season. The sleeve pattern must completely correspond to such an armhole, otherwise it will be difficult to sew it into the product.

The fastener can be made with a “zipper”, which will have to be sewn on a machine using a large stitch. You will have to make sure that the machine does not pull the hem of the cardigan.

Knitted cardigans - patterns with descriptions

Those who are more advanced in knitting can safely take on an openwork cardigan. Even if you knit it with relatively thin knitting needles, the result will still come out quickly. Air knitting does not require a large number of loops and rows. The thread consumption for a cardigan will be less.

Knitted openwork cardigan

Openwork cardigans are good for overweight and thin people. As soon as a plump lady chooses a trapeze silhouette, a cardigan thrown over her shoulders will make her look slimmer. A large pattern for an openwork weave cardigan with rounded elements is best chosen by those with a thin figure. The main thing is to find a knitting pattern on the Internet. A tight-fitting cardigan, the pattern of which has a diagonal direction, can also add slimness. If you add an elongated silhouette, then the correction of the figure due to clothing can be considered complete.

Will it be possible to knit a cardigan with knitting needles in the Art Nouveau style if you choose the fluffy “Lalo” style that many people love as a basis? Art Nouveau implies curved lines, which means a tight silhouette. “Lalo” are voluminous ropes, which in many patterns are called braids. The cardigan turns out to be straight, but due to its volume, it acquires a barrel-shaped shape. This cozy cocoon can be worn with a belt, and then the figure will take on an hourglass silhouette. And this already fits into the concept of modernity. And flowing “ropes” also cannot be called straight lines.

The “Rope” pattern for a cardigan is knitted using a special pin (hairpin, additional knitting needle). In the product diagram, the weave is done on a section of 30 or 32 knit stitches. To do this, 15 or 16 loops (respectively) are strung on a pin and passed forward, and the remaining 15 or 16 loops are knitted. Then the removed loops from the pin are sent to the non-working knitting needle - attention! – without twisting and knitted in the same way with knit stitches. Since we only have two interlacing lines of loops, this is a classic “rope”. The “braid” consists of three “strands” in the same way as it is woven from hair. Using the example of 30 loops, it looks like this: after 16 rows from the beginning, the first 10 loops are removed with a pin and folded forward of the work. Another 10 loops overlap with them - the average of 30. Next, another 16 rows are knitted, after which the first 10 stitches are knitted with knit stitches, the second ten are removed with a pin and passed at the back of the work, and the last 10 stitches out of 30 are knitted in front. Then the loops are removed from the pin, and it is the turn to knit them with knitting needles.

The “Lalo” cardigan can also be made in “braids”, then the weaving will be one and a half times smaller, the puffs will not be so convex, which is just favorable for women with a full figure.

It is easy to make a non-voluminous cardigan with knitting needles full figure, since it is knitted simply - in garter stitch. With it, turning the work, you continue to knit only the front (or only the purl) loops. You can knit without really thinking about it. The main thing is to correctly calculate the loops and rows according to the pattern. To make garter stitch with knitting needles look embossed, you should arm yourself with large knitting needles and thick thread. Turn-down collar This model will be given those same diagonal lines that perfectly hide fullness.

You can make asymmetrical shelves with knitting needles by adding loops; This will require a special pattern. The asymmetry of the cardigan consists of a diagonal line on the right hem, which can be secured with a single large button at the standing collar. The rest of the fastener should be made secret - with buttons or Velcro.

Long knitted cardigan with hood

If you want to knit a cardigan with a hood, then you should be responsible when choosing a pattern. It's easy to knit a cardigan using alternating vertical stripes of purl and knit stitches. Often this pattern is complemented by interlacing “ropes” or “braids”. But it is precisely this texture that can let you down, and a cardigan with a hood will turn out to look like a bathrobe.

It is better to choose for such a product openwork ornament, easy to knit. If this item does not seem warm enough to you, then it is better to even knit a cardigan with knitting needles in a scarf or stocking pattern.

If you are good at knitting needles with threads of different colors, then you can come up with some kind of letter prints or just geometric shapes, apply it to the cardigan pattern and build a knitting pattern based on it. Often, advanced knitters can keep such a pattern in their heads, and already knitted rows will serve as a “beacon” for them.

Children's cardigan with honeycomb pattern for girls – knitted

Do not think that a cardigan, especially with an elongated silhouette, is clothing exclusively for adults. Children's cardigans also came into fashion and became an integral attribute children's wardrobe. Knitting a cardigan for your daughter or granddaughter is an opportunity to hone your skills, learn how to cut and count stitches. After all, knitting a small cardigan means the work goes faster and the result becomes visible earlier.

"Honeycomb" pattern

Today, a children's cardigan made with knitting needles in the “Honeycomb” pattern is popular. There are several options for these “hundreds”. There is a spectacular two-color pattern for crocheting, it is also suggested to knit it simultaneously with crochet and knitting needles. That is, the upper and lower lines of the honeycomb, which ideally have a slope of 120°, are knitted, and the vertical ones are then added using a hook.

The second option is done exclusively with knitting needles. The cardigan turns out to be monochromatic, with a relief pattern, which is based on the technique of overlapping loops described above. But you will have to work a lot more on them than on the Lalo cardigan. To imitate the inclined lines of a honeycomb, you will have to “move” the loops in each row, both in the front and back.

The complexity of knitting such a pattern with knitting needles will not make the work too long, since the cardigan is for children, that is, small. But in such a product the baby will be warm.

It's good to knit a cardigan for a boy. For your baby, you don’t have to choose complex and elaborate patterns. Two-color “Honeycombs” are of no use here. But knitting convex “honeycombs” with knitting needles, choosing threads of a dark, cold tone is quite possible even for a schoolchild.

Cardigan is not only women's clothing, and it was invented by a man of a very harsh profession. This Englishman was an officer and had the last name, as you may have guessed, Cardigan. It is not known what exactly these warm clothes for soldiers were knitted with then - knitting or crocheting, or whether they were in use knitting machines. But for army men who spent a lot of time in the field, this turned out to be a real salvation in the cold.

Dear ladies, knit cardigans for girls and boys: the children will feel warm.

Fashionable knitted cardans: we knit them ourselves. Ideas, master classes.

Most often, the knitting is elastic and the side seams unsightly pull the cardigan along the sides. To avoid this, it is best to knit a seamless cardigan. And this is a meter or more of fabric, imagine what straight knitting needles should be, and what Strong arms to withstand such weight.

There is no clear answer regarding the choice of spokes. He who loves something praises it. Internet is full beautiful photos with wooden knitting needles, but most craftswomen still buy steel or aluminum ones with coatings.

The type of yarn, thickness and quantity depends on the type of cardigan and is considered in each individual case. If you decide to knit a copy of a designer item, we recommend choosing the same yarn composition as the original, since most often the appearance directly depends on the type of thread.

Calculation: your chest volume + 10 cm for a loose fit. This is the length of the canvas. For us it will be 100 cm. Since the cardigan does not fit and is very elastic, an equal value for the face and back is acceptable. For us it is 50 cm. We will combine two patterns. Stockinette stitch and openwork mesh. So, knitting calculation: 20 cm of openwork mesh, 10 cm of stockinette stitch, 40 cm of openwork mesh, 10 cm of stockinette stitch, 20 cm of openwork mesh. Depending on your size, calculate proportionally as well.

Sleeve length is three quarters. Of these, the first 20 cm are knitted in openwork mesh, the rest in satin stitch. The armhole and sleeve are knitted in the classic way.

Hooded cardigan with knitting needles, diagrams and description

The openwork cardigan is incredibly beautiful, but still many people associate the cardigan with warmth. cozy clothes. We suggest connecting for autumn walks cardigan made of wool blend yarn. For size 40 you will need 1700 g of yarn, the thickness of which is 60 m per 100 g.

In order to increase or decrease the product, you need to add or subtract 1 cm on each side. In order not to destroy the pattern, we recommend adding pearl knitting and reducing it by no more than a size.

We knit from 5 parts (2 sleeves, 2 shelves and a back). The knitting is tight, the seams will not pull the material together, and dividing it into parts will make needlework much easier.

Hood. We sew the shoulders, pick up loops along the neckline and knit this way: the first 7 pearl loops, then according to the pattern, the remaining 7 pearl loops. Knit 19 cm in this way, then begin to decrease. On both sides of the middle 9 p. 1 x 1 p., knit 14 r. and reduce every 2nd r. 8 x 1 p. (on the wrong side on the right, 2 p. together, twisted, on the left, 2 p. together, purl). After 38 cm from the beginning of the hood, close off the remaining 47 sts.

Cardigan with braided knitting needles, diagrams and description

Two sister fashion designers recently founded the Lalo brand, and revived the love for chunky knits and baggy cozy items. Today there is not a single fashionista who would not dream of a Lalo cardigan. We suggest not to waste time and knit it yourself. There is a small nuance - thin girls will wear any of the cardigans, but those who are fuller should carefully select the knitting. A cardigan with voluminous braids looks good.

For such a cardigan, size 40, 90 cm long, you will need about 2 kg of alize lanagold 800 yarn. Depending on the number of colors, you will need 2-4 colors. For a beautiful gradient, we recommend using a color palette of recommended shades. The cardigan is knitted in 3 threads. The gradient is obtained by gradually replacing the thread. First one thread is replaced, then the second and finally the third. A smooth gradient adds a special chic.

The cardigan consists of 14 braids, for size 40 the braid has 16*16 loops. Depending on the size, the size of the braid changes. The sleeves are knitted with 3 braids.

Karina: when I first brought knitting needles and threads into the house, my family snorted. I will supposedly knit things that would be embarrassing to wear around the house. But knitting is so different! Today, everyone I know wears my cardigans, and while I’m on maternity leave, I’m doing a great job doing handicrafts. I can give advice to beginners - do not skimp on yarn, because most often the item looks cheap due to the useless yarn. And also follow the latest fashion trends, and don’t take out diagrams from grandma’s chests. No, no, they are not bad, it’s just that until you get the hang of it and have a sense of style, it’s better to copy designers than to go into dubious experiments.

Anna: All the women in my house knitted, so naturally I picked up this handicraft too. Most of all I like to knit toys, but when I saw cardigans from a Georgian designer, I couldn’t resist! I knitted it for myself and my mother in mirror colors. I started with purple for my bottom, switched to lilac and finished with fuchsia, and for my mother I alternated colors the other way around. Thus, we have a fashionable family look, but each one has an exclusive item. In knitting, I can recommend at first a minimum of self-will, a maximum of working according to patterns. After a couple of years or related fifty things, you can begin your own development.

For those who love harmony with nature, we recommend choosing yellow and gray shades - the most natural ones. And for bright people, we can recommend a red and purple cardigan.

Handmade is at the peak of popularity, if you haven’t noticed it. That's why knitters always have orders for openwork cardigans.

How to choose the right color and model of cardigan, given the existing variety? What is the right way to wear an openwork cardigan? We will give answers to these questions in our article.

Cardigan models

At shows of famous fashion designers and hand-made artists, we can get acquainted with fashionable news. You can choose a modern openwork cardigan model or your grandmother’s vintage one.

In addition to being temporary, cardigans vary in length, and are now in fashion:

  • Long vintage cardigans, below the knee
  • Cropped cardigans, bolero style.

Cardigans are decorated with feathers, fringe, if it is a boho style, fastened with 1 or several buttons, if the cardigan is more classic.

Who is suitable for shortened models of openwork cardigans?

Designers and fashion designers advise women with a pear-shaped figure to wear them. A cardigan to the waist will highlight your assets.

Short models are worn with sheath dresses and bright blouses. And large accessories will emphasize the stylishness of the image.

Long openwork cardigans

England is considered the birthplace of long cardigans. The cold climate caused the birth of warm long sweaters. The British kept warm in them, saving on firewood and heating their homes. Long cardigans can be knitted in any color, to the knee and even below.

These cardigans will make you feel cozy even on the seashore. And we made up small selection fashionable cardigans to make your choice easier.

Knitted openwork cardigan

If you do not want to knit a completely openwork cardigan, knit only the back with openwork patterns. The openwork can be located only in the upper back or along the entire length.

The openwork pattern can be knitted in the round, in the form of a flower, or consist of individual motifs. Usually the openwork back is knitted separately and attached to the cardigan during its assembly.

interesting selection to the website 16 models only for girls

Hello girls!!! I came across a cardigan on the Internet. To my taste it turned out to be very cute.
Having searched my bins, I found threads of a similar color. The cardigan took a week to knit. And it blossomed twice more. Otherwise I would have contacted him faster.

The first time I decided that I was very big and added two extra rapports.

The second time, I decided to decrease it from the waist to the shoulder neck point - I didn’t like how the pattern lay down with the decreases.
The result is that I loosened it from the neckline to the waist.

For the cardigan I needed:

Delicate pekhorka yarn, color 581 light emerald, 50g/165m, 50% cotton, 50% acrylic. In 2 threads. consumption 850 gr., knitting needles No. 4 (although maybe 4.5 - they are similar to me))) Size 44-46.

There is such a scheme on the Internet, but it is not entirely correct. In it, the number of loops in the repeat is 20. But it should be 21. I am posting the corrected diagram for you.

The cardigan was knitted with a solid placket without side ones. Sleeves are set-in, tapered at the bottom.
I didn’t close the neckline - I left the required number of loops in each row on an additional knitting needle, and then tied it in the round to the desired height.

To all the girls Have a good mood, new ideas and implementations.

Hello girls! I contacted the cardigan for the first cool days of autumn. Yarn “Zempir gold” (angora 30%, acrylic 70%). It took 4 skeins (250m per 100g). Knitting needles No. 3. The color in the photo is distorted, in fact the color is “sea wave”. The cardigan can be worn with or without a belt.

Cardigan made from Alize Superlana TIG yarn knitted with knitting needles openwork pattern. Yarn 25% wool, 75% acrylic in 100 grams 570 meters, due to this the cardigan turns out to be delicate, openwork, almost weightless. I knitted with needles No. 2, the consumption was 230 grams per size 44. Pattern diagram in the photo. Work by Vera Koval.

Hello girls!!! Once upon a time a model caught my eye in the magazine “Verena”, I saved it in my favorites and periodically remembered it and looked at it.

At some point, I decided to knit strictly according to the description. Not so. The description didn’t suit me; something didn’t add up all the time. I sat down to figure it out myself. On top of that, I didn’t like the diagram published in the magazine at all with its notations. I don't like such schemes. Is it true. I personally find it uncomfortable. Some of the designations in the diagram were incorrect. I had to figure out the pattern... After drawing a diagram, I started.

The model is quite interesting, but something is not finalized. I personally don’t find the front neck very comfortable, but I’m used to feeling comfortable when wearing the product. Therefore, such a collar is not for everyone) In the photo in the magazine, the lady in the product is standing behind a bush and there is no way to see the model properly.

First - the description in the magazine, then my own, if it is useful to someone, I will be glad.

Now I’ll tell you how I knitted.

Yarn Alize Cotton Gold Plus 200m/100g, 55% cotton, 45% acrylic, knitting needles No. 4.5 (according to the description, 3.5 knitting needles are needed - if I knitted with 3.5 knitting needles it would really make a very thick coat), consumption 680- 690 grams. Color 487. Size 44-46.

We start knitting from the sleeves. Cast on 65 loops crosswise set(rapport 3 times + 2 edges). We knit from the 1st to the 74th row. in the 75th row we first close off 5 loops, then in the 76th row we also first close off 5 loops. We also knit the second sleeve. The sleeves are ready. Now you need to replace the two sleeves with additional knitting needles or fishing line and forget about them for now. By the way, it is better to close these loops in an elastic way, so that later it will be comfortable in the armhole area.

Cardigan body. In the description, the elastic band is knitted separately and then sewn on. I thought that I didn’t want to do this at all. I decided to knit everything together. For the body of the cardigan we need to dial rapport, elastic and patent edge 10 times on both sides. It turns out 3+11+210+11+3= 238 loops. We type in a cross pattern. We knit 3 loops of the patent edge, then 11 loops of the elastic (we start the elastic from the front loop) - we also finish 11 loops of the elastic, the patent edge of 3 loops. So, we knit from the 1st to 74th row, then we knit from the 25th to 74th row, then from the 25th to 75th row. In row 76 we begin casting off the stitches for the armhole. We knit 3 patent, 11 elastic, then knit 37 loops, close 12 loops for the armhole, then knit the back 112 (or 114 loops), again close 12 loops for the second armhole, knit 37 loops for the second front, 11 elastic loops, 3 patent edge. Close these armhole loops using an elastic method.

If I knit according to the description, I couldn’t get the pattern at all; I had to figure out how the pattern would match the diagram myself.

From this moment on, our sleeves are connected. It is necessary to re-take the sleeves onto the knitting needles with the cardigan in the places where the armholes were closed.
We start knitting from row 201. The fronts, sleeves and back are knitted in this row. Between all these parts we connect the pattern of diagram B. In diagram B we have 13 loops. Let's distribute them. We knit 3 patent, 11 elastic, then 31 front loops according to pattern A, the remaining 6 front loops go to pattern B, then we knit 7 sleeve loops according to pattern B, the remaining sleeve loops up to the last 7 sleeve loops we knit according to pattern A, the outer 7 sleeve loops knit according to pattern B, 6 back loops using pattern A, etc. until the end. The wrong side according to the drawing. Accordingly, we knit the next row the same way. 203 row of pattern A, 3rd row of pattern B. so on until the end of pattern B. In row 211 we have 3 loops left on the armhole line. I knitted them together. We get it using the B bevel pattern a la raglan.

Recommendation. For large sizes or full hands, pattern B is best knitted in 3 rows to lengthen the armhole line.
Next, we knit the entire cardigan according to the main pattern A, since we knitted the entire pattern B. We knit up to 250 rows. Here it is possible and even necessary! According to the pattern, knit a couple of centimeters for the sprout - that is, in short rows. We don't count them. We count only complete rows. I honestly admit I was lazy. And I didn’t make a sprout - the description doesn’t say anything about it. And it must be done! In row 251 we begin to knit an elastic band. To do this, we knit 2 loops together in the cardigan pattern where they were according to the pattern to form a 1X1 elastic band. All. We knit an elastic band to the desired height of the collar. I got 268 rows. In the 269th row, the elastic band is closed. Recommendation - do not close the loops elastically - it is better to NOT close the loops elastically. The first time I closed the elastic elastically, I tied it.

By the way, in the description they write that we are knitting rows 174 and 175. I didn’t find such rows at all.
Next we sew the seams of the sleeves and armholes. All. WTO.
Thank you all for your attention!
